Amazing location, lovely staff, and perfect for solo travellers!”
As a solo traveller coming to Kusatsu for the first time, Kusatsu Onsen Futabaya was the perfect starting location for exploring the surrounding onsens. The location was very close to the central Yubatake area where most of the onsens were, and with a little bit of walking, you could reach the other onsens perfectly fine. Coming into Kusatsu completely blind, the receptionist who was working at the time was extremely patient and kind, providing some very helpful pamphlets and maps and advice on which onsens to visit, making the experience so much smoother. He also provided some light refreshments which were welcomed after travelling all the way over. In terms of the facilities, the rooms were very clean, cosy, and had everything you needed. The hotel also provided yukata and onsen towels and baskets for you to use, saving you the trouble of having to purchase them. Overall, it was a positive experience and I would definitely come back to Futabaya if I return to Kusatsu!

Average temperature of Kusatsu is 18 degree so it will bw very easy to pass your time enjoying hot springs nearby. We are in the center so we hope there was no problem with anything. We hope to see you soon in Summer or Spring seasons as it is very good weather and very easy to enjoy your day with Hot Springs. JUst Nearby we have Outdoor Bath as well which is very famous to tourists. Thank you very much.

Pros: 1. hotel room size is large for Japanese standards. It’s the same size as a normal hotel room in other countries. 2. Staff speaks fluent English 3. Electric blankets are so warm and comfy. 4. Checkout is weirdly early - 10am, but we were allowed to leave our bags at the reception and walk around until our schedule to go to the bus terminal at 3:40pm. 5. Onsen all over. That’s what we were there for. Cons 1. Entirety of Kusatsu onsen town is either uphill or downhill. Beware if you have knee problems or difficulty walking 2. The famous technological wonder that is a Japanese toilet is present in the hotel room, but the bidet water for women cuts off after a very short period, better to use the other water spray (it’s a very small gripe, I know) 3. Old-style keys are used for the doors of the hotel room. I know Japan is safe for travelers but it’s not the Japanese locals I distrust, it’s other foreign hotel guests who might break into the room while we’re out.

We try to provide free services in weekdays so we are business hotel in that day but other days we provide free breakfast services as well.Weekdays are prices are low so we try to provide only light breakfast. We hope you liked free hot springs and paid hot springs nearby our places.We are thankful you admired and thought about our hotel.Thank you once again.

The owner and his staff were all lovely and eager to make your stay pleasant. Their original Onsen map which indicates which one has very hot/hot/warm water was a lively touch as my partner could not bear onsen that is too hot. 3min short walks gets you to the main area but the hotel was very quiet at night. The breakfast was not outstanding but sufficient. The hotel is more like a business inn than ryokan or a traditional Japanese inn. Each room has a shower facility and equipped with all you need. It is a great choice especially in Kusatsu where the hotel prices are quite high.

The room was exceptionally clean along with the very polite staff. The location is a 5 min walk from the city centre and nice choice of onsen nearby. The complimentary morning breakfast was also very nice.

There is no hot spring inside of the hotel. BUT, it's really close to Yubatake, so you can enjoy hot spring around. Breakfast was good, the room was clean. Perfect place as an accommodation itself, nothing to add

The hotel was near the bus terminal and the yabatake (hot water field) main attraction and town Center. The staff was great and the rooms were very comfortable and super clean. The 7/11 seems to be opened 24hrs and 3 free onsen were within 5mins from the hotel. Everything is within 5-15mins walk. Perfect hotel near town centre. I will stay here again on my next visit.

The hotel manager was very helpful, so is the English speaking Nepalese staff! There are 3 free public onsen, 2 of them within a min walk from the hotel. Great location! Highly recommended.

It was a comfortable place. Near from onsens walkable. The breakfast is simple but nice. The room is also ok with tv. Just that the shampoo we used that time was filled with water. It was not refilled properly. But everything is ok and clean. They don’t usually speak english. But its easy for checkin and checkout
