Great location and comfortable room ”
The room is very spacious and come with a balcony. Nice place to relax and be away from the city for 2-3 days. The location is very convenient, walking distance (5-7 mins) to the city centre (Yubatake). The dinner is nice and wide selection for breakfast buffet (very local authentic breakfast spread). The hotel also provide shuttle services to/from the train station (just approach the tourist information counter and they will call the hotel for you). The front desk officers speak very good English and very helpful. Overall the stay is very comfortable and the transfers from hotel to station is fuss free.

Unique experience”
This hotel in Kusatsu is quite worn out however it's indeed a unique experience to stay for a night. Make sure to also book the hotel with the dinner and breakfast. The dinner is splendid especially for those who doesn't have much "Japanese" experience. The room is also very spacious according to the Japanese standard.

Value for money”
Helpful staff even if my Japanese was limited. Outdoor bath was nice especially while it was snowing! If you book the room with dinner, it's a kaiseki style dinner which was great! Breakfast was so-so though. 5 mins walk to Yubatake so good location. Room is a bit old but clean. Overall I recommend this place!

Very nice staff ”
I accidentally booked for the day before my arrival but the hotel staff was nice enough to not charge us any cancellation fee and provided us with another room. Spoke excellent english as well which was uncommon in Japan, especially the more rural areas.

I didn’t feel welcome in this hotel as a single woman traveler”
I stayed for 3 nights at this hotel. I will expose the pros and cons of my experience: Pros: Onsen baths are very good and accept tattoos. Be careful as it may be very crowded from 9pm until 10.30pm. Kusatsu is a very touristy. Locations is great, only 5mn away from the Yubatake by walk. Very close to the main streets too. Japanese traditional room is cute even though the cleanliness is definitely not the best (I found hair in the bathtub, the carpet were stained, as well as the ceiling). Cons (there are a lot): Japanese senior man staff was not friendly at all with me. He was cold and inattentive to my requests. For example, I requested if I could order dinner at my room when I checked in and he simply refused without explaining why. Strange way of dealing with customers. On the contrary, his colleague (foreigner) was more attentive and helpful with my requests (he helped me send my luggage with Yamato for example). You have to pay a fee of 2200 ¥ for the private onsen and you can only use it for 50mn, not even a full hour. The WIFI was NOT WORKING! How is this possible for a 3 star hotel? There was no apology about this either and no explanation was given. I noticed the wifi was not working in my room as soon as I checked in and thought the issue may have been on my side but no! I found out because I had read a written sign inside the elevator in Japanese with the word “wifi” in it. I decided to take a picture of it in order to Google translate it and it said the wifi was not working because of some kind of maintenance…. I had to go in the lobby every time I had to use the internet… Last but not least, there are either spiders or fleas or some other kind of insects that bit my arm, ear and shoulder after sleeping on the futon and pillow on the 2nd night. It really was the worst for me because now my whole left arm is swollen which is having an allergic reaction. Please for the sake of your guests, change the bedding, sheets and pillow because this is cle

Good location and Great value”
The hotel was about 15 minutes walk from the the bus terminal. And only 3 minutes walk to Yubatake (the main attraction of the Kusatsu, where they have the hot spring reservoir in a public square. The hotel is a little aged and understaff. The dinner was good, the breakfast is not bad either.

Exceptional”
Friendly staff, little bit of a language barrier, very accommodating. Great breakfast buffet. Spacious traditional room with Mountain View, maid service every day. Only complaint is that I couldn’t use hotel onsen due to my tattoos, which was understandable, just wish this was noted at booking as I didn’t see it anywhere

Inferior room assigned to us”
I reserved a 19m2 japanese style room with bathroom and view but turned out to be a much smaller room without bathroom and view. The hotel could only manage to assign the right type of room to us on next day. The hotel room and facilities are all aged. The breakfast and dinner are not so good as well.

Comfy but old”
Comfortable (keep us warm and cozy) but small and outdated room. No ensuit bathroom. Free pass to go ohtaki no yu onsen nearby which was really good dip.

Great onsen, Ok rooms”
The actual Onsen has an open air section with a view of the sky, and has great facilities. The location is a bit of a walk, but not bad. The rooms are fine, though a bit strangely designed. The door into the room swings into the only space available to take off your shoes, making it hard to maneuver.

The staff gave us the wrong rooms at first.”
We booked three big rooms with a view and a bathtub, but at first they gave us three very small rooms with no windows and no bathtubs. We had to talk to the hotel until they put us in the correct rooms. So disappointed with the management. How ever when we got the right rooms, the rooms were good. The Onsen was great. The breakfast was delicious, but the dinner was not.
