Clean room, great service and excellent location.”
Room was very clean and tidy. Location is away from the main area, thus away from the crowd and quiet at night.

Exceptional”
The onsen is within a short walk of the famous Yubatake and offers very clean and comfortable rooms with private baths available for no extra costs! The meals (we had both the dinner and breakfast) were spectacular and worth every yen. In the winter, it was much more comfortable to eat at the ryokan than to venture outside looking for room at the local restaurants. You can even try the free public bath next door to Tamura, Jizo no Yu, if the bath at Tamura is occupied. We really enjoyed our stay here.

The owner was nice and the meals were quite good. I felt pampered. The private baths are free and for use at your leisure. Two or three people can enter, so it's good for families or solo travelers. I enjoyed the tatami rooms.

A short but nice trip”
We've stayed for 1 night. And it's a nice experience here. We had great dinner and breakfast provided here. And we can use the private hot spring room. The room is big enough for us. The staff are nice.

Good place to stay and private onsen availble!!”
Overall, the hotel is nice and clean. You will feel slightly go back in time here. Although the hotel is a bit old but well maintained, not shabby. I love that they have private-onsens which is good for a foreigner that not quite familiar with Japanese bath culture. I do enjoy the onsen here. The location is a bit far from the bus terminal. The way to the hotel is quite steep. Not recommended for the elderly with knee problems.

Great Japanese style of hotel ”
We both really enjoyed the stay as this place has awesome Japanese feel with tatami, and inbuilt onsen that you can enjoy any time of the day. Inside the private onsen there is a big window that you can enjoy the entire snow view! The other experience we loved was the traditional dinner and breakfast in room on the tatami! Will definitely stay there again!

Ryokan Experience”
It was raining cum snowing when we the Kusatsu bus terminal so we decided to take taxi. 730yen for a trip. I guess that is the minimum charged. We stayed on second floor, with lift, facing road with construction opposite. Not bothering as no active activity there. Both dinner and breakfast were superb. We were served in private room. The in house onsen has both public and private. Both are rather small. The water temperature is hotter than the usual onsen we went. There is a public onsen and footbath just besides the ryokan. Take note of the opening hours as we wanted to try in the morning but realised it was not open yet. The ryokan is just a short walk to yubatake. Overall a pleasant stay.

Kusatsu onsen ryokan Tamura”
Stayed for 1 night at end Feb 2020. My first time staying in a ryokan. This place is family owned and is a nicely preserved house. Everything i expect a ryokan to be. The building is old but well maintained. My room is spacious but does not have a private bath. Only toilet and wash basin outside the room. To bathe, you have to go down to the onsen on first floor. There is a public onsen and 2 private onsen. No booking for the private onsen, you can use it as long as it is available. The onsen water is really hot compared to other onsen places i have tried. Dinner and breakfast are provided, brought to the room. The food is nice. Wifi is ok. The yubatake is right behind the hotel, though you have to make a loop to get there. English is not well spoken by the staff but can get by. One of the staff told me of fireworks at 8 pm that night which is nice. The hotel provides free tea and hot water to your room and also Japanese style robe to wear.

Very good”
This is a nice hotel and good location. However, the in room dining was a bit stressful as dinner time has to be 6pm and they will morning call you at 7.15am to wake you up for breakfast. Not recommended if you are looking for a relaxing holiday

Wonderful onsen, they even got private onsen for you and your family”
There’s a steep downward path to the hotel, with the ice road, really need to be careful walking with your luggage, but this is just a small cons compared to how good that is for the onsen there, oh, they don’t accept credit card too, so, get the cash ready if you choose to pay at the hotel like me
