Best hotel in Dumaguete”
This was our second visit to Dumaguete, but the first time to stay at la Residencia Al Mar. All I can say is that...it's beautiful. The hotel is located at the baywalk, so you can just sit at the restaurant's patio and enjoy the view of the sea and watch the boats go by. It is an old Spanish Era house, delicately preserved for people to enjoy the fine worksmanship and architecture. the staff are amazing!! Even kept us posted on trip cancellations and accommodated everybody because there was a storm. Their Spanish restaurant was super!! And if you want to explore more dishes...you just walk the stretch of the baywalk and you have everything! I love this hotel. Will definitely come back.

perfect to walk to the best restos”
Dumaguete is a small town. Best thing they boast about is food. La Residencia has one of the best Spanish restos. All the other best restos are alongside it where you have Casablanca, Sans Rival cakes & pastries, etc. It's a short walking distance to Lee Plaza mall and to the City Center. Staff are very nice...makes you feel so much at home. The only downside here is wifi and network signal....quite poor when you are in the room.

Great little hotel, very helpful staff”
Faultless, in one word. The hotel stands apart from its surroundings in terms of design. It is situated on the promenade of Dumaguete. This affords many locals and visitors a paseo in the evenings which means perched on the little veranda of the hotel ample time for people watching with a cold beer. The hotel itself is small, quaint, well appointed although the the room (twin)I had was a little small but the AC was excellent, the en suite compact but it did the job. The dining room was well layer out and the tables set very well. (Although i didn't eat in.) The consierge was exceedingly helpful and attentive to any query or need I had. I travelled with a friend and only stayed one night but shall be returning shortly after a stay on neighbouring Siquijor Island. I heartily recommend this hotel.

Dumaguete in the rain”
We had heard good things about this place. It really is a lovely little hotel, well-located, fairly clean. Wifi was reliable. The view from our tiny balcony was lovely--the Boulevard, the ocean beyond, early morning sunrise. We ate one meal at Don Atilano's. The food was just passable. What I take issue with most is the cold reception by the front desk staff. The clerks seemed hostile--the only reason I can think of is that we booked through Agoda & they felt they were not responsible for us. We asked questions about how to get to places in town and received terse replies. Finally, we gave up and just asked pedicab drivers for help. The night guard was helpful with information if he happened to be around when we needed to get somewhere. When we were checking out, the clerk presented me with some credit card receipts that she said I had to sign. Since I had already paid online to Agoda, I said that didn't seem right & I had never had to do that at other hotels booked through Agoda. She just kept insisting it was their policy and I had to sign, I would not be billed twice. I refused but signed the bottom of the slip, not on the line and wrote "Noted." She rolled her eyes but we were allowed to check out. We had to leave our luggage at the hotel so we could go for lunch (our flight was mid-afternoon). I had a chance to study the copy of the receipt she had given me and saw that the card being charged was named "AGODA" and it was actually just an acknowledgment of sorts so I suppose the hotel could claim their payment from Agoda. If she had explained that to me at first, it would have been more understandable. Bottom line: hotel guests would feel a lot more welcome if the front desk people were better trained to appreciate bookings made through Agoda and to explain properly what kind of receipt we sign upon checkout. Would I stay at this hotel again? Probably not. I would definitely return to Dumaguete as it is a beautiful and interesting city.

Attractive building and rooms but a bit noisy”
This hotel was pretty good, though I was expecting more for the price. I had read reviews that said the view was really nice, but my room didn`t have a window (I don`t know if I missed that when booking the room). It was also fairly noisy - I could hear the staff outside my door a lot and I could hear creaking floor boards everytime they walked past. This didn`t happen late at night, but was a little annoying during an afternoon nap. I had a Deluxe Twin room. The beds were a little small (I felt out of bed once when I reached for my alarm clock). The building`s design is charming and attractive. And the location is very good, being a 5 minute walk from the ferry port (which I used to go to Siquijor Island), and just a couple minutes walk from various restaurants and the main downtown thoroughfare. I found the staff friendly and helpful, I had no problems with cold reception like I had read about in reviews.

Great location right in the heart of town”
Nice hotel with some old world Spanish style, different from the all too common faceless modern concrete blocks. Mostly rather small rooms; at the front they have a brilliant boulevard & sea view - 2 rooms with balconies, even! but noisy from the traffic; rooms at the back are much more quiet, but no views at all. Great Spanish-style restaurant downstairs; dozens of other eating places within walking distance. Breakfast (not included in room price) was disappointing. Coffee like dish-water.

Perfect for a night in Dumaguete”
The hotel is in a great location but it's feeling a bit tired and probably needs a renovation soon. But for Dumaguete, if you need a place to stay, it's a great choice.

Location and food!”
the place is a very beautiful building located along the boulevard. beautiful view and nice location. you can stroll along the boulevard or watch the sunrise. nearby the hotel was shopping areas, malls and pharmacies all within walking distances. another highlight is the amazing steakhouse located IN the hotel itself. the steak was amazing and very value for money!

Great location and decent hotel.”
Location is great and right on the Boulevard. Hotel is a little old - probably was a large house at some stage. Room is small but adequate, Sea view window is excellent. No lift is a problem for anyone with mobility issues. The restaurant on the ground floor is really nice with a good menu. Pricewise this hotel is good value for money and as such is recommended.

Good location”
We were given the last room in the second floor. It was near their staff area so whenever the members of the staff were there, we can hear them chatting from inside the room. At night, our room was near the bar beside the hotel so we could hear the band playing until the wee hours of the morning. Otherwise, it's location was very accessible to the different restaurant along Rizal Blvd. Just step outside the hotel and you'll also be able to access tricycles, jeepneys and even buses.

Beyond Disappointing”
When you first walk into Residencia Al Mar, the lobby and reception area are nice and clean. This is the last time you will see or feel anything this nice. How this place gets some of the good reviews it has is beyond comprehension. Bathroom - Disgusting. Soap scum all over the shower floor. Toilet dirty, shelf above sink has something growing on it, and provided mini soap bars stink like industrial detergent. Bed - You can feel every spring in these ancient, worn out, hard as rock beds. Easily the worst hotel beds I have ever slept in. Pillows are more like lightly padded slabs of concrete. Aircon - barely functional. Noise - The noise from Rizal & side street starts at 4:30am and even with windows & balcony door closed tight, it sounded like we had buses, tricycles, and delivery trucks driving through our room. Cable TV - 900 possible channels on cable box, only 20 of them actually work. I wouldn't recommend this place to an enemy, let alone a friend. Stay anywhere else if you can.

STAY AWAY / ALÉJATE”
We had the worst time here. The place is a rip off. NO VALUE FOR MONEY. -bath smell like sewer. -bed was a joke. Sleeping on the floor had to be more comfortable. -Linen was not properly clean. -Air conditioning required about 8 hours to start cooking the small room. When we ask for maintenance they basically told us that we were layers and it worked perfectly. -WiFi did not work on our whole stay. When we ask for help they told us again that we were layers and it worked perfectly. -They did not clean the room on our second day. They told us that was our fault because we don't followed some sort of rule that was not adviced to us on arrival and was not written anywhere on the hotel. We had to insist for having the room clean, and they wanted to charge adfitional -it was very noisy. They had private parties every night in the lobby. -The staff did not provide any help to all our complaints above. They just said sorry, but never once tried to do something about it. -WiFi no funcionaba. Cuando pedimos ayuda recibimos el mismo trato. -El personal no nos ayudó en ninguno de nuestros reclamos. -ruidoso, todas las noches habían fiestas privadas en lobby. All in all, even a hostelling would be better. En resumen, en un hostal estas mejor

Boardwalk Dumaguete”
The twin room we stayed in was solid. As the hotel is right at the mainroad maybe a room in the back of the hotel is more quite. the house looks quite old and could use some maintanance. Overall the stay was good.

Okay for an overnight stay”
The best thing about this hotel is its location near the pretty boulevard that runs next to the harbour, lined with old Narra trees and lanterns. Enjoyed an evening walk along the pathway that runs next to the harbour with the lively night vibe. The hotel has an olde world charm but the room was quite small and had no view (I think others in the hotel face the harbour). The bathroom needs renovating - it was small and cluttered and the toilet was too close to the shower. The shower recess did not have a screen or shower curtain and the water went everywhere. Didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food. All in all it was okay for an overnight stay.

Very good”
The help were all very nice and helpful BUT The water was always cold in the shower. couldn't get wifi in the room and the restarunt was over priced. No instant coffee in the room for the price the little things were missing. No hair rinse shampoo dispenser in the shower was faulty You can get better on the Blvd. for the same price

Great Location!”
A classic hotel with a homey atmosphere. Don't expect an elevator though. And the rooms are quite dated. Also, the WIFI actually did not reach our room so we had to stay in the lobby or restaurant for better signal. Amidst all these, I still love the location with great views while having breakfast in the morning, and the fun nightlife along the boulevard.

Value for money, located along the water front”
Good value basic hotel. Rooms facing the sea (and therefore the main road) will be very noisy. You need to inform the staff if you require daily room cleaning, although the staff are generally helpful and polite.
