Little bungalows in the rice fields”
the mai chau nature place is a tiny resort of around 10 bamboo bungalows, in the middle of the rice fields, a bit outside of mai chau town. it is a lovely setting, for a short escape from crazy hanoi. the bungalow are very basic, but still comfortable. no hot water in mine but i guess i did not switch it on. the food served at the resort is actually pretty good ( person). it is possible to borrow bicycles at the resort, and the "lac" neighbourhood of mai chau, with its guest houses and little chops selling textiles and clothes is at walking distance. the staff was very nice and friendly.

Simple but nice hotel outside of the city”
a few bamboo bungalow in a beautiful valley, with high mountains around and rice fields with water buffaloes. the mai chau nature lodge is a great place to spend a weekend away from hanoi. the family bungalow has 2 rooms + a bathroom. simple but ok for my family (2 parents + 2 child aged 10 and 12). great place to bicycle or just walk near the rice fields. not too far from the little village with all the guesthouses and local craft stores. do not expect a high level of commodities but good place for a break from the city life.

Simple Chalet Style resort with Great service”
We had a fantastic stay with Mai Chau Riverside Resort. We arrived at about noon time and checked in at about 1230pm. There were no signage on the exterior of the resort and it took us a while to figure out that we were in the right place. The road to the resort was narrow, and our van just managed to squeeze through. Check-in was a breeze though and we were showed out room. The room was simple, but considering it's in the province, it's nice. We had a balcony facing the river and the view was just great!! The service of the resort is great. They speak little English though. One of my friend's ankle had a cut and the lady boss, having noticed it, went to get a plaster and personally pasted it for my friend. Great Thank You for that. Bicycle was provided for resort guest at no added cost and we cycled around the countryside, enjoying the nature. In the evening, we watched the traditional dance with the other guests and were served the local wines thereafter. It was indeed a trip that we will remember for a lifetime.

good quality price”
Our stay in Mai Chau Nature Place was nice. Despite Mai Chau being a very busy and touristy area, it felt fairly peaceful. We did got waken up by the roosters in the garden around the bungalows but I guess this is part of the charm. This place is a family run busyness and if the bungalows are little bit rustic in their built the place is overall nice. They can organised many tours and activities for you but you are never force to take part. The food we had in their restaurant was very nice and at a good price. The top was the free bicycles. they are not all of an equal quality but it is easy get hold of one and cycle around in the surroundings, to the city center and other places of interest. The down side was the immediate outside in front of terrace of the bungalow. The mountains in the background are gorgeous but the pond just in front has a lot of rubbish flowting. It would be hard for them to change that as Mai Chau is a very busy place and many other resort hold parties for Hanoi students very frequently on weekends.

Excellent location and staff”
An excellent stay. Room is very rustic but nets are provided. It's a great escape to nature and an excellent base to explore the area. The room is peaceful and has great views and the staff were very helpful cooking meals outside of normal times and offering advice on things to do for people who have been there before and wanted to get out of the usual trappings. Food is the best I have had at any Homestay type residence in Vietnam. This will be my defualt Mai Chau accomodation in future.

Great escape from busy Hanoi”
It was great to get out of busy Hanoi and be able to relax in beautiful Mai Chau. A friend recommended Mai Chau as an alternative to Sa Pa and we weren't disappointed. Nature Bungalows were great, just be aware, they are what they are, basic bamboo huts. But really, that was what we were looking for. They were building some newer huts down the road when we went, they looked liked they were going to be a higher quality, so search them out if you want a few more creature comforts!

Not really a homestay but a lovely village”
It's easy to get a xe om (or same price for a taxi if 2 or more) from Mai Chau local bus stn to nearby Lac Village 1 or 2 where all the homestays are found. All the stilt houses are close together and independent travellers can easily find a real stilt house to stay in. There are oodles of handicraft stalls underneath at Lac Village 1 and even cafes with wifi. Nature Place is at the end of Lac Village 2 and it's a lovely 15min walk to Lac Village 1- so picturesque with buffalo, ducks, fish ponds, rice padis, mountains, streams and kids playing soccer. Nature Place frequently treats guests with traditional dance shows at night and the meals are ample. It's kind of annoying having to buy water all the time at premium prices- especially when so hot and humid.

Authentic but with all necessary comforts”
We booked one of the riverside bungalows and were happy with it. The view over the river, rice fields and mountains from the attached balcony were excellent. Other bungalows are facing a small garden. Walls and doors are mostly for decoration and do not provide much of an obstacle for neither man, mosquito nor sound. However, the bed is equipped with a mosquito net so there is no real hazard from getting stung. The immediate surroundings are very nice for walking and presents any number of picturesque scenes for amateur photographers like myself. Home-cooked meals were very good and the staff was friendly.

Beautiful riverside location”
There are some negative reviews on here but you should come here with the right expectations. Yes, the bungalows are basic. They are made of bamboo. But if you get a river view you will have a fantastic porch looking across the paddy fields with mountains in the distance. There will be geckos in your room (nature's mosquito spray). You may even see an ant or other creepy crawlies. This is inevitable in traditional style accommodation. We found the bed perfectly comfortable and the mosquito net was new and in perfect condition. The staff are not trained to western standards. A little more of a welcome on arrival would have been nice. However, they helped us whenever we sought them out, and they provided a wonderful evening of food and traditional dancing. We even joined in at the end. Please, do not be put off by one reviewers comments about this. It was the highlight of our trip and yes, one or two beers were on the warm side, but remember where you are! There were also comments about loud karaoke at night. Karaoke is the number 1 entertainment in Vietnam and we have stayed in 3 and 4 star resorts where we heard karaoke at night. Just because this is the countryside, doesn't mean the locals have to give you your idea of rural tranquility. During our stay there was music coming from a party in the field next to the hotel. We went and enjoyed it, and it was over by about 9:30. All in all, we were very happy with our stay, and would recommend this hotel to like-minded travelers who are not expecting luxury or resort-style service.

Serene Getaway ”
We’d booked the riverside bungalow and had deifintely enjoyed our stay very much. Room comes with simple setup and facilities covering our basic needs (eg: hot shower, standing fan and comfortble bed with mosquitoes net). Could be quite challenging to navigae around the village without a tour guide as there was not much signange, we were lucky enough for having allowed to tag along to the tour. Beautiful village sceneries with friendly locals ever ready to guide ou along just in case you lost your way.

Bungalows are great, if you get it!”
very very difficult to find on our bikes, even with gps! when we finally arrived we saw the lovely little bungalows and showed our agoda booking form - they seemed not to be expecting us and talked about our printed out booking for ages but eventually a younger guy came to take us to 'the other part of the resort'. in short it was a dingy room in a old guesthouse a few kms away in a different village. after much protesting - our booking clearly said a 'riverside bungalow' - the guy took us all the way back to the first site and said oops they didn't read the booking properly. ehem. we found the bungalow at a cheap rate on agoda and they were annoyed to have to give it to us at that rate, so tried to palm us off on a crap guesthouse in the village. be warned! once inside bungalows are spacious, clean and cone with a mozzie net attached. shower is good and the balcony is nice to read on. not many food options though so be prepared to head back to the neighbouring village a short walk away. we heard the people next door say they were offered breakfast so we went to enquire - they made us some eggs and coffee, which was tasty. they tried to charge us for the free bottle of water when we checked out but we were initially told it was free. they then said yes ok, it's free. a great place to chill for a few days, just be a little cautious.

Beautiful setting - poor room standard”
The hotel is beautifully situated just outside Hoa binh, if you have a 'riverside view' you will be overlooking the paddy fields and mountains which are very beautiful. If you travel alone and not with an organised group you are left to find your own way thru, which isn't too difficult but a welcome information sheet would be very helpful. The food was always good and hearty, you sat together with other travellers so you could enjoy the community feel. The rooms / huts were very basic. Open on all sides under the roof, you are very glad to be tucked up at night under the mosquito net. For me the condition of the huts let the place down, the bathroom was almost unusable, all hooks were off the wall, the shower lever came off in my hand, it was very uninviting. More suited for back packers IMO. For that reason we left a night early.

An adventure!”
The bungalows are very roomy but keep in mind that they are open to the outside meaning bugs and all kinds of creatures come in and join you! Mai Chau is breathtakingly beautiful and the bungalows are about a 5 monte motorbike ride into town!

Nice location and pleasant stay”
We chose this hotel because we didn't want to stay in a dorm at a homestay. The bungalows are a bit overpriced for what you get, compared to other hotels in Vietnam, but the location is great and we did not regret our decision of staying there a couple of days. Staff is very helpfull and very kind. Sitting on the terrace in the evening and just watching the ducks in the rice paddies was so relaxing. We enjoyed our time there very much and recommend the hotel as the best option in town.

Lovely area, bungalows basic but ok, service poor”
Staff seem a bit confused and unorganised. Didnt know we were coming , appears they may have double booked . Rooms very basic but comfortable enough. Not insect proof so use the mosquito nets. Tour information poor despite the brochures. Need to take the initiative to explore the area yourself Can hire motorbikes from the lodge easily enough. Cheap to hire , rural so traffic not too bad, and was really an enjoyable way to explre the area, beautiful scenery, villages, friendly people Food was filling and plentiful There are no ATMS in Mai Chau so ensure you have enough money before you arrive here

Peaceful stay in a mountain village”
We stayed in a bungalow with a terrace overlooking paddy fields and a nearby river (or a canal more precisely). It was great to have meals on this terrace, and I almost forgot that we were not faraway from Hanoi because the village was so peaceful. Also, I would recommend anybody who loves animals to stay at this hotel. You can see different kinds of animals, such as cows, buffaloes, goats and chickens walking around everywhere in the village.

Peaceful escape from Hanoi”
this 'resort' comprises 8 or so bamboo bungalows. the facilities are basic and meet perfectly with the environment. the river facing bungalows offer great views of the mountains and all bungalows have hot and cold showers as standard. mcnp offers a perfect cheap and peaceful break from hanoi, there is also some fine exploring to be done around the area with a hmong weekend market a 25km bike ride away. at 20 dollars or so these bungalows offer excellent value for money.

Beautiful country retreat.”
Beautiful location in the valley, quiet and yet close to shops and restaurant/bars. Bike riding and walks around the village. Food at the hotel drew visitors from other home stays. Well fed. Great to get away from the hustle of Hanoi. Our bungalow view was superb.

Adequately comfortable. Nice staff. ”
You should not expect a city standard of a 2 star hotel. The bungalow is made by bamboo, looking over a canal, not a river. It provided basic facilities. Tourists normally stay in stilt houses in Lac Village which is really a tourist area. I prefer this bungalow since it is located away from the crowd but you can walk to surrounding areas. It was a nice experience for my children to see many animals around.
