Great for a conference stay”

If I come to Birmingham again, this hotel is going to be the first one I will check for free rooms. I went there after studying the city map a bit, and because the price was reduced (around 80 EUR per night). I had a room with a king size bed (absolutely comfortable) on the 7th floor. This leads to my perhaps only point of criticism, namely I wasn't able to lower the temperature in the room to below something like 23-25 degrees, although I set the AC to 16 degrees. (Windows can't be opened.) A receptionist told me that it may have been due to the location under the roof, and the sun operating. Well, maybe; most of the time it was sunny indeed. I didn't use the spa facilities nor the breakfast (but I did use the Starbucks in the lobby and was satisfied). The location was perfect to me for two reasons: it's very close to the city centre, and to the New Street train station, which is 9 minutes of a train ride away from the Airport station, and 7 minutes from the University station (my conference was at the Edgbaston campus). Of great value for a conference-goer was the electric iron and the complimentary tea/coffee in the room. The hotel also had socket adapters that I could borrow (I forgot mine from the Continent), and separate USB charger sockets (perfect idea). I missed some shelf space a bit, but was able to use my suitcase as an ersatz set of shelves... Needed to re-log to the wi-fi all too often (that was a bit irritating). A supermarket is a few steps away, and there is a variety of restaurants to choose from, in the vicinity. The picturesque canal district is a few minutes away. All the staff were absolutely polite and helpful.

Nice room, would stay again”

We like staying at malmaison hotels. We’ve stayed at Leeds, Manchester and now Birmingham. The room at Birmingham was the biggest by far and gave us plenty of space to get dressed for an awards evening without being on top of each other. Sadly we didn’t get chance to look in on the brasserie or bar.

Nice hotel”

Position. Shopping. Parking.

This is a regular hotel for my friends and family as it's right there in The Mailbox so great to stay overnight if we are having a night out in Birmingham. The hotel is good, centrally located and very modern. It also has a good spa. Rooms are average size for a modern hotel, fitted with everything you need and the service is always good. I requested a bath robe and it came within a couple of minutes. The bistro is quiet and rather expensive but you are metres away from a dozen restaurants including Marco Pierre Whites and a stroll down the canal to some great pubs. However, I pre-paid for this room using Agoda and in fact explained this as the receptionist wanted to take the room payment when I arrived. she checked it and said, "Oh yes, that's correct. However can I take an imprint of your card just for any incidentals?" I explained there would be no incidentals but she insisted it was hotel policy.

Too cool for school”

The Malmaison is uber trendy and a super cool place to stay. I love that it's right near the station but rooms feel secluded and very quiet. Everything was comfortable. Sometimes bordering on kitsch, but still a desirable hotel option with more class and personality than most other hotels.

Beautiful Boutique hotel ”

The Decore, location and atmosphere

Had a lovely stay in Birmingham, Hotel is really beautiful. I had a standard double room which was very spacious. I was a little disappointed in the small bathroom and felt it didn't quite go with the theme of the room. Also the bed was Huge, but was very uncomfortable and hard and the pillows provided were too soft. I didn't sleep well to be honest. Apart from that It's a great hotel location is brilliant being in mailbox. Would stay again.

Good”

The room was nothing special, considering the price. No water in the room, staff were unhelpful. However, it was a good location and the bar was good. Hotel du vin is much better! Due to the weather we were standed in Birmingham for the next night. We stayed at the holiday inn for for £69. I would stay there before the malmaison! What a shame, really disappointed as I’d heard such good things about this hotel. Gutted as it was our anniversary:(

Excellent quality so why rubbish cheepo toast for breakfast?”

Almost everything about the Mal Club room feels plush and luxurious, the spa is a welcome retreat after a long day - it's a pity it closes so early on the weekends - So when everything else at Malmaison Is put together with a touch of class, why do they serve such rubbish toast for breakfast? It feels more like joes cafe than a £130 a night city centre hotel. Great hotel, I've stayed here before when visiting the NEC, and would definitely do so again. I'd give them a high score even, but please get some good bread for the toast.

Thank goodness we got a good rate on Agoda which included breakfast. Hotel is dark and brooding and trying to be cutting edge and modern. Rooms were big but sink blocked, watermarks on the ceiling from leaks, bar prices huge and staff unhelpful.
