Best location for a shoe-box stay”
Tiny places with no frills attached. Recommended for those travelling on a shoestring budget because it's in a fantastic location.

Very good”
The place is accessible to all means of transport. Room is small which can accomodate 2 pax only but it is clean and has its own private comfort room. However, we were asked to pay additional 300 HKD (200 service charge & 100 deposit) when we arrived. The service charge of agoda is different from Marrigold Hostel's service charge per the staff.

Good”
Part of the air-conditioner was taken down for maintenance dring the day. The handwash basin was not letting the water to be flushed away. The shower pipe was broken and water was not flowing through the shower head.

Above average”
I originally booked Marigold but was transferred to its sister hostel. The sister hostel was not what I expected of thus I demanded to be transferred to a different (another sister) hostel. The new hostel was better, however, the experience of dealing with the situation was so much hassle and frustrating. If you are going to book this hostel MAKE SURE that they have a room avail in Marigold and that you will not be transferred to it's sister hostel. Double-check with the owner. In fairness to the owner, he was very accommodating and patient. I just don't like being blinded-sided by false advertisements.

Stand on your ground and refuse extra service / tenant charges!”
We didn't want to pay the extra charge (500HK/7d) and refused to go to our room until i sorted this out with Agoda. Make sure you have own Internet 'cos the free wifi's Internet (Marrigold3) will somehow stop working. In the end, he asked us to go to our room and no additional fee if i remove rubbish myself, not eating in the room and no toilet paper. We then agreed. When I complained to Agoda (go to Agoda's virtual chat and ask to chat with a real person), they were informed that he did not charge any extra fee). To sum up: a blood-stained linen, stained bed covers, no TV/wifi (unless you sit outside and use Marrigold11 wifi which isnt available from our room), killed 2 cockroaches, no toilet seat, mouldy shower slippers. He would ignore our complaints. Bring your own bed linen or blanket. We took pictures & videos before and after we use the facility to protect ourselves. Without those hidden charges and attitudes, might rate higher. +good location +cheap. Improve your service, mate!

Rooming arrangements”
We were asked to pay for additional fees when we asked to be placed to the room that was supposed to be our booking. We paid for it but the air condition was not working. They also did not gave us receipt to our payment and that seemed shady.

I don't recommend it. ”
We didn't get to enjoy the room and the place. The owner was rude. It was already paid and they want us to pay a $HK100 service charge or they will cancel. They cancelled the confirmed and paid booking. Now, I don't know what will happen to my money as it was paid thru card. Our planned private celebration was ruined. Waste of money, time and effort.

Value for money”
You get what you pay for. We didn't actually stay at Marrigold Hostel located at 11F Block D but at 17F Block A (New London Hostel) which is cheaper in price at Agoda. Our first night was a bit upsetting because the airconditioning kept on refusing to give cool air until the friendly staff gave us cooling fans and eventually fixed it. Our remaining nights were cold and comfy. The Chungking Mansions (a mix of lots and lots of hosteld and residential units) has this ghetto feel at start, but I learned to love the place each day; thanks to the cheap prices of goods on the first floor, plus the building is close to Tsim Sha Tsui station and some tourist spots (Avenue of Stars, Clock Tower, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and Star Ferry terminal). It's a bus away from HK Museum of History and HK Space Museum, and a train away from everything else. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. 10/10 if you ask me.

Had a great stay here...”
One of the cheapest hostel in Hong Kong. My 2 sisters and I stayed here for 3 nights and everything was fine. I had read a lot of negative reviews here before but I still booked this for us considering our money constraint. With the negative reviews, I didn't expect much about Marrigold Hostel. We just want a place to sleep in Hong Kong after exploring the city. But when we got there, even my sisters were amazed for having a decent and clean room to stay in. Great value for money. Great location, in the middle of everythig, near MTR and bus stations. Friendly and helpful staffs.

Affordable; Convenient; Accommodating Staffs.”
The hostel is convenient located at the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui. MTR station is right across from the hostel. You can catch a taxi right in front of the building at night or at the corner of the block on your right during the day hours. Very affordable compares to other hotels in the area. Staffs are friendly and helpful. They do speak good English, so it is quite easy to communicate with. If you are staying in the summer (pretty much from May to late September,) there is no worry because the hostel's AC units are more than enough to keep you cool which unlike some other hostels in the same building. As for the winter, I have no experience on that, but Hong Kong can get quite cold with most buildings do not equip with heaters. Word of advice, bring an extra towel or blanket just to keep you warm at night. Lack of space is a constant in any of the rooms that offered by hostels in ChungKing building. So, I guess the important thing is that the room I was staying at was relatively clean with garbage collected daily and comfy, and the staffs were friendly and very accommodating.

Nice hotel for budget traveler”
1. About the location, It's near MTR Tsim Sha Tsui, only need to walk from Tsim Sha Tsui Station to exit N5 about 3-5 minutes. If you are going to find meals for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can reach it in less than 10 minutes. If you are going to shopping to a mall, there's a mall (iSquare) at the opposite side of the building. If you are going to Avenue of Stars, only need to walk about 10 minutes. 2. Room is clean and everything is well prepared, such as towels, shampoo, body soap, hair conditioner, hot water, hair dryer but they don't prepare toothpaste and toothbrush. Room's air conditioner is also good. There's also hot water or cold water for drink. And also microwave if you want to warm your food. 3. Staff is also very friendly, I can see that they place their service quality in number one. Anything you need in your travel in Hong Kong, you can ask them how to get it or they can get it for you. They can get you some cheaper ticket to Disneyland, Ngong Ping 360 cable car, Ocean Park, and even Macau's ferry ticket in cheaper price. They also can give you information about buses in Hong Kong. 5 Days spent there is worth for budget travelers.

clean and basic in a location”
Our double room in the hostel was clean and comfortable, with working aircon and fan, a TV, hairdryer etc. Obviously the room was a little bit basic, and we were given just a sheet instead of a duvet, but it was comfortable and a good price in comparison to other accommodation in Hong Kong. The staff were friendly and let us check in really late on the Friday night. The hostel is located in Chunking Mansions which is a really interesting place to stay, although it will definitely not suit everyone! Yes you might be offered drugs outside the building, or inside, but there's also really excellent curries from the food vendors inside :) The location of this hostel was very central. It was right next to the Tsim Sha Tsui metro station and about 7 minutes walk from the Star Ferry pier.
