Snowy Weekend in Yamagata”
Great time at a great location. Amazing service, great outdoor onsen, dinner was worth the extra cost. Close to both major lifts in Mt. Zao. Would definitely stay here again.

Great stay and food”
We had a great time here and really liked their onsen and food. However, one of the staff was not very helpful when we asked help with keeping a lookout for a necklace we had left at the onsen. The rest of the staff were very polite and helpful the whole time, except for one.

Excellent staff service ”
Hotel is in uphill and within 10 min walking distance from Zao bus station. Staff picked us from station to hotel and also the hotel is closed to Sake Museum, what a surprise! Food is just okay but I like the overall atmosphere

love the room of the hotel ,onsen is nice (hor spring water contains a lot of sulfur which gave a good smell ) . Front office and the one who pick up us is same person which is very nice. one negative thing that i would like to complain is about breakfast i came down at 8.35am but the only one last piece of onsen egg is available and i gave that to my sister ,when i asked they said that “no more” so disappointed with the answer though it was not 9am yet:( (brf 7-9am)

Great place to stay if you like onsen, 24hrs. Many of the staff are very friendly and helpful, especially the young Japanese guy who double up as driver upon our arrival, front desk officer/manager and restaurant assistant. thumbs up to him though we didn't get his name. He's always put up with smiling face, helpful gentleman and guided us on the ski qtns we have. Will come back again.

Staff are very nice and helpful. Dinner and breakfast are both excellent. Pick up from bus station are very efficient. Onsen is also very nice! However, the location is a little far from main road. It is very slippery if you walk down from hotel to the main street.

Love the room and PRIVATE ONSEN”
I didn’t expect that they have a private onsen. It has a fee though, but it’s totally worth it if you’re a couple. Love the outdoor public onsen as well. It’s close to the skiing venue, sake museum and bar, and zao onsen.

Good service”
The staff is very nice there. They tried their best to help us to arrange the dinner although we might not make it due to events. However bottle water is not provided. Location is a bit far from bus station, please reserve the pick up service Besides that, the facilities are pretty good.

Old property ”
Property is very much in need of refurbishment. The toilet seat was wobbly, there were stains on tatami and wall. Toilet flush did not work properly Outdoor onsen was small. Dinner was semi buffet touristic style . As an overnight guest, we feel that very little care is given to the property and we will not recommend this property.

Bad service at the restaurant ”
The women who run the restaurant is an older lady who yelled at me for not understanding the way she want to run her restaurant, she doesn’t speak English and i don’t speak Japanese, i still don’t know what she was yelling at me about. She must be reminded that i am the paying guess, i paid for the meal and the service, i didn’t pay her to yell at me!!! Her very rude attitude make me feeling uncomfortable during the breakfast and dinner meal time.

Accommodating two night stay”
My partner and I left Zao onsen refreshed, the staff at Meitoya Sou gave us clear information, were kind, and the rooms were clean, large, and well kept. Walking around the town was easy, and we enjoyed lunch at Chotto, just a few blocks away. The free onsen foot baths are a must! Breakfast is served from 7 and the buffet had English labels on most items, the evening dinner you can reserve 6pm, 6:30pm, or 7pm, and ends at 8:30pm. The shabu shabu and Ghengis Khan menus are on rotation so you will always get both if you stay 2 nights it seems. The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff explained everything very slowly in simple Japanese for me to understand - although we were able to fall back on English as well. The mango pudding dessert with a side of melon was absolutely delicious and stands out in my memory. I wanted to enjoy an onsen without bathing with strangers, so we rented the personal bath for 1500 JPY for 50 minutes. It is open air with blinds, outside- connected to a room with a heater. In April it was still pretty chilly until you get in! It was the perfect way to enjoy an onsen without feeling uncomfortable. I would say a max of 2 people could bathe at one time, but solo would also be very nice. Thank you very much to the staff who made our first onsen stay ever such a joy.
