Lovely, cozy hotel with nice attitude!”

Nice and cozy with lovely view

I've stay in this hotel a few times. It has been always nice and cozy. The hotel is a bit old though with furniture not in it's best conditions. Suprisingly, the hotel was not crowded but they could serve good food and a selection of fine wines was available. We had very nice views from our room looking over to a mountain and down to a valley of thick tropical rain forest. The staff showed their nice attitute but could be a bit difficult for international guests in terms of communication. They were even suprised and confused when being informed that we'd booked and paid through Agoda. However, in general, it was a pleasant experience and we may stay there again if we visit Tam Dao.

Hotel is too old, rooms need renovation”

Great food, nice staff, good location

Rooms are really old and run down and because of the humid weather in Tam Dao, bed sheets and pillow cases seem really dirty and wet. Overall it is a nice french style hotel, but it needs a serious renovation.

Dirty smelly room, found ants nest inside ”

    Spacious room

I stayed more than 4 times in Mela Hotel for the period 2009-2015, but this is my last time. I liked the restaurant and although hotel is very old, it was reasonably clean and maintained. The rooms are spacious (especially the deluxe with one single and one queen bed). My previous visit was in 2014. This is my last stay at this hotel - 21-Nov-15. The bathroom - worn out and very dirty, sink faucet so loose - have to hold it to open. Shower stream cannot adjust. Discovered big ants nest stretching form one night stand all the way below the bed to the other night stand – thousands! Bed sheets were wet and you can see fungus growth. Swimming pool - water green, All around the pool - dog sheet not cleaned for at least few days Restaurant was permanently closed. Only one person at the reception that doesn’t speak any English. When I explained that I need another room he gave me the keys for two tiny rooms – one on the first floor and one on the fourth. The room on the first floor was so smelly that I decided to squeeze (family with children) on the fourth floor. This room could get the aircon working, couldn’t get shower because the water pressure was very low – the bathroom amenities and the towels were obviously used by someone. I believe I do not have to continue.

    Hotel from a horror movie”

Seriously, it was like a haunted hotel. At night, while the dull hum of activity of all the other hotels in the background, stood the dark Mela Hotel. there were no lights outside the Mela at night. When you enter, the eery silence and chilly air inside the reception area makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. The first thing i thought of was the Eagles song, Hotel California, "you can check-out anytime you like, but you can never leave." We were the only two people staying at the hotel. All the other hotels were full. I know... because we walked to pretty much every hotel to see if they had a room available. Even though I knew I couldn't get a refund, I would have paid double to stay somewhere else. Everything is dirty, old, and smelly. Breakfast was included, but we didn't want to even eat there given the conditions. I feel bad writing this. As I am sure the family that owns the hotel is barely getting by. Hence, the condition of the hotel. However, for the price, there are a number of other hotels within walking distance in pristine condition. I learned my lesson. I will always read the reviews before booking.

    High potential, low quality ”

This hotel has definitely seen better times. It's not well maintained, with broken walls in the bathrooms, everything looks kinda run down. We rented 4 double rooms of which 2 had dirty bedsheets. Besides that, cleanliness would have been acceptable if it were a cheap hotel which it is not. The pool water was dirty and the pool area was crowded with strangers as they are selling tickets to people who don't stay in the hotel. The aircon remote didn't work and the aircon was running at full power, making the room uncomfortably chilled. The staff is very friendly and trying their best but they are highly unprofessional and seem overworked. Overall the building has a lot of character and a high potential, the location is very convenient, the staff is nice, but it's totally overpriced and not well managed and maintained at all. For 50 usd a night definitely not a good option. We wouldn't stay there again.

We got out without some infectious disease

We arrived at the Mela around 19:00,restaurant never opened that day. Common spaces were damp an near freezing point. Our room was large and withe balcony. It was also filthy and, yes, freezing. The bathroom was beat approached with dark sunglasses... If it was ever cleaned it was a long time ago. The highpoint of our stay was when I opened the bed and found the bed linens covered with black mold... Thick black mold. It being late by then and our driver having vanished we asked for fresh sheets and slept fully clothed. In the opening we discovered that the sliding door to the balcony was jammed open which explained why we shivered all night. No breakfast was available in the morning and the WiFi paid for in the room was nonexistent. But after the mold who cared? We are surprised that Pagoda would list a place like this.

We stayed there as a group for a weekend. The hotel was very nicely decorated - French style but hasn't been renovated for too long, so everything is quite dirty and worn out.
