Nice hotel and friendly staff :)”

I will recommend this hotel very much for families with older kids. We had a very nice hotel room with a proper bed for each person, clean and new good beds. The hotel is very well situated between the new and old part of the city. Easy to walk to the meeting point of all tour companies and the tram from the airport arrives in a short distance from the hotel (get off at Princess street). The breakfast was excelent and better than the dinner ;)

    Avoid!”

This hotel needs a revamp BADLY!!!!!! Noise from other rooms ,doors banging & windows are not very insulated! Disturbance from room next to us with screaming shouting & banging on the walls from 1am until 4.30am so no sleep & hotel didn't seem bothered, really bad & upsetting to experience that! Room door had a massive gap at bottom of door so light at night from the hall was insane! Go elsewhere if you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Location is great, near the train station with airport buses and trams passing by the hotel. The room we had has an amazing view of the castle and skyline. Near the shops, pubs and grocery as well. Walking distance to Royal Mile and Calton. Cons: Cleanliness can be improved. WiFi is not working in our room most of the time. Flushing the toilet can be frustrating.

noisy, old, dirty, not too cheap, and still full of drunk teenagers!”

Central Location=Noise (front from main street shop loudspeakers, back from huge ventilation engines). Old Building=Noise through old windows, paper thin walls and self slamming doors! Dirty looking room carpets and walls!! And moldy looking bathtub and toilet... Price=Not too cheap, but cheap enough for drunk teenagers to stay here: In the middle of the night they arrived, loud and rude, running and banging through the halls and between the rooms, and they even stole my shoes (I left outside my door to air) and threw them into the back ventilation courtyard, where I found them in the morning after searching by myself through the entire hotel! When I told the reception about it, they answered "someone is playing a prank with you"…?!? I recommend to stay in a private B&B: The owner takes care of his house, helps his guests in person+immediately , doesn't allow bad/loud guests, it's always clean, great breakfasts, and usually cheaper than hotel!

Great, central location with clean, quality rooms”

excellent location, free wifi in the lobby, modern/contemporary rooms for europe

my stay at the mercure was excellent. i'm american so gauge all things against the standard of quality i'm used to and was quite happy with the price/value/quality equation of this hotel. located on princes street across from the gardens, i had a fantastic view overlooking old town and edinburgh castle. good quality bedding (though the mattress was extra firm/hard), clean rooms... thumbs up!

Much better than I thought it was going to be”

Great view, clean, lovely and warm, comfortable bed, power shower

I was staying in Edinburgh for the weekend to watch the Scotland v Italy rugby game and to visit family. When I arrived at the hotel I was pleasantly suprised because although it is advertised as a 3.5* it appeared to be better than some 4* I'd stayed in. The check in was quick and effortless with a polite and friendly member of staff. Once I got to my room I was further pleased with how clean and warm it was - two of my most basic requirements for a hotel. There was a heater that could be adjusted to suit - a rarety in a lot of hotels i'm sad to say and the view of the city from the room was amazing. The bed was comfortable giving me a good nights sleep and in the morning I was refreshed with an excellent power shower. The room was small but that doesn't bother me, however 2 people I was travelling with upgraded their room to a larger one with a better view for a small supplement. I would also recommend having the afternoon tea in the restaurant, which is reasonably priced and left me feeling pleasantly satisfied . All in all I would definitely stay here again and strongly consider staying in a Mecure in other cities/countries if this is the set standard.

Located in Princes Street, the heart of Edinburgh.”

    Location, Location, Location

We chose this hotel because it is situated in Princes Street. The heart of Edinburgh city. It is within walking distance to Waverley Station, and also Edinburgh Castle (the main attraction in the City). The price is also affordable. We really enjoyed our stay in the Hotel and Edinburgh City. Definitely will come back and recommend our colleagues.
