The location is strategically good provided the ambiance surrounding is the priority and not the conveniency. This hotel located on the mountainside, which is not on the onsen street. Which creates some inconvenience to the travelers. However, serene surroundings and privacy are guaranteed. Free shutter pick-up available from/to onsen street upon request anytime. Advance booking required for free shutter service to/from Yamagata Station (2 timing a day). This is the Pet-friendly hotel too. The food options are decent but the breakfast buffet spread could be better. Highlight os this hotel are public (2, indoor and outdoor) and private onsen (3 outdoor)! Thumbs up and a must-try during the visit.

1st time to Zao Onsen area”
The onsen, hot spring, at this hotel is really nice. The water is silky smooth and gives a nice after feel. This hotel has a private bath that you and your partner can use together in private. Please ask the front desk about it. The dinner was really fantastic. The breakfast is nothing to shout about but it is good nevertheless. The hotel is about 15 min walk from the bus terminal. But it is up a hill. The hotel also provide bus service to the bus terminal. Or you can get a taxi which is about 700yen. Overall it is a nice hotel and I am sure up recommend it to any first timer.

Nice onsen but a bit hard to get to”
A bit hard to find, they have a shuttle service but would help if you speak Japanese. We didn't get it and struggled up the hill with our luggage. Their private onsen very nice but hard to get if you only stay one night. You can book it for the next day if you stay longer. The food was pretty nice served in large dining hall with the other customers, a lodge vibe. There's a big hotel dog who is so cute. Chatted to some of the staff who were really nice and helpful, helped us get to the Zao ropeway and gave us local tips. Would look great in winter! There's a great view at the front of the hotel. Unfortunately when we went there was construction outside our room in the courtyard and some of the private onsen were also under construction sadly

Old and dusty Onsen Hotel ”
Receptionist not friendly when we checking in the room. Upon dinner time we ask if any restaurants are open in the hotel, one of the staff said all the restaurants in hotel not served to customer who didn't make reservations earlier. Even though we have kid with us, they refuse for help to prepare any simple food. The staff told us to walk down to the town for dinner our own and they do not provide any shuttle service. I think this is very rude and unreasonable because the hotel actually has their own shuttle and they are not trying us to solve the issue. It is impossible for us to bring our kid to walk down to town (whereby the hotel location is up on a hill) during winter, all the roads are slippery and dark! At the end we only can buy instant noodles from their small convenience shop for our dinner. I don't mind to sleep in old furniture but it just so dusty everywhere. Bedsheets are with dirt stain, especially the table and light beside the bed is super dusty! Toilet with no shampoo or soap, and the shower head is spoiled! I will not come back anymore, bad experience, bad service and bad cleanliness. The is the only accommodation in Japan that makes me feel disappointed. Not recommended especially for family with young children.

Beautiful hotel”
Locate up a small hill in Zao Onsen, the owner and the staff were super courteous to pick us up from the bus station and dropped us off as well. Big spacious rooms with lovely views and just a nice short trek up hill to the ski slopes. Highly recommended!

Great onsen hotel in Zao”
Wowwww hotel is very nice and clean. There are 3-4 onsen baths where you can relax and also having private sign provided. You can use it to onsen with your close friends. Dinner and breakfast were superb as well.

First time travelling to heavy snow place, driving completely hopeless and the car was not well equipped. However, the staff was very helpful to solve the problem. Josh was extremely kind to us and he works there in Winter (perfect English so that we could communicate well). The hotsprings were fantastic !
