I'm quite a perfectionist traveller, I actually ensure that I check out all the good options first and assess almost every detail, particularly my 4 C's when choosing accommodation: cost, cleanliness, comfort & convenience, before I make a choice and book. Cost was reasonable, I'd say. The weekday rate wasn't so pricey but the weekend rate was. If I remember it right, it was almost x3 or x4 the weekday rate. But it's common among all so I accepted. Cleanliness is really, really important to me and iexceeded my expectation. I didn't find an issue at all in our room and even in the common areas. Unless you go DND, they'd really clean your room and replace all the towels and consumables. Actually, even if you go DND, they'd still leave you a bag of new towels and consumables.

Good value for money”
The facilities are new, clean and overall very good. The dorm is spacious enough for 10 people, the shower area although shared by men/women didnt feel uncomfortable at all. The main area (reception/dining/kitchen) is very spacious too. I loved that it is located near Higashihie (just across the bridge) and Hakata Stations, very easy to find even at night. The hostel provided free breakfast and although it is simple (boiled eggs, potato salad, bread, butter, jam, coffee, juice) it is very filling and good enough to start the day. The staff are also awesome; always smiling, respectful, welcoming, helpful to queries and requests. I would love to stay here again!

Awesome room in awesome hotel with awesome staff”
This was by far the biggest hotel room I ever had in Japan and it's only a 10 minutes walk from Hakata station. I had a full-sized bath in the bathroom, a large enough bed, enough wayroom all around and a sofa with a TV to relax. There is a sink over the fridge and it almost looked like a kitchen but there were no IC plates. Instead, it was possible to cook anything in the ground floor lobby, even a Japan rice cooker was available for use. I sometimes borrowed some dishes to eat in my room. The staff were super nice and helpful. I could see everybody's smiling face even through the masks. Even though it is a hostel and everybody is so laid back, it is open 24/24 and there will always be someone coming to the front desk if you ring the bell, any time. The only downside is that the bike rental system only allows for one full day. Sometimes you'd just go to the restaurant in the evening but you wouldn't pay 1000 yen bike rental just for a round trip to Tenjin area.

Better than other hotel chains!”
Wasn't expecting much because it was a hostel, but we surprised as it was better than other hotel chains. They have free simple breakfast consisting of breads, egg, potato salad, etc. There's no shortage of amenities. They also have table tennis and bikes for rent. Rooms are larger than the standard Japanese hotel room. Our room had a balcony, couch and even a genkan, separated from the bedroom by a door. In terms of location, it's halfway between Hakata and the Higashi-Hie stations. If coming from the airport, Higashi-Hie station is just one station away. If you're at Hakata station, it's just a short walk. A ramen restaurant frequently rated #1 at reviews is also just a short walk away: Hakata Issou. I'll mention these just in case you're too picky about these things: - The heater's inside the bedroom, and the bathroom is outside the bedroom. So you'll be leaving the warmth of the room during winter. - We stayed at the topmost floor (9th) and the pressure is not that strong.

This is my second visit to Montan Hakata. The first time I was solo traveler. I chose Montan Hakata for my full stay in Fukuoka (4 days), but then I changed it to 2 days then moved to another hotel (I thought I'd better move to experience much), but I REGRET it. I regret that I could not spend more days in this beautiful place, and worse, the second hotel I chose felt much less than this. Therefore, I promised myself that I would be back to Montan Hakata, and it came true! ^^ I came here with my husband this time (we were just married!) for honeymoon. Montan Hakata's price was getting higher and more crowded as more people stayed there, compare to my first visit :( However, the service was good, as always. Unfortunately I missed the breakfast on my second day (last day) because I slept very late for packing luggage. In fact, I love the breakfast time in Montan Hakata, but I missed it! Hiks.. I will come back again! :)

My BEST Hostel ever in Japan!!”
This place is very nice and comfortable with beautiful modern decoration. All things here was rated EXCELLENT!! Staffs were very friendly. The Room was clean and new. While my room also have a private bathroom, there were many super clean public bath room and rest room too. I highly recommend this hostel for a group of friend and couple. This place must be my first choice if I have a chance coming back to Fukuoka <3

Exceptional”
The hostel is close to both Higashihie and Hakata Station. Coming from Hakata Station, you can easily locate it by just walking straight at Hakata's Chikushi Exit. Once you see the mini open park, just turn left at the street as you approach 7/11 also near the park. If coming from Higashihie Station, you can easily see it from the bridge. It was a nice walk from both stations. Not so crowdy and lots of convenience stores around too. And I feel like I belong lol. About the hotel, we're happy it's very spacious and the bed is so comfy! Plus, there's a free breakfast that serves bread, potato salad, coffee, orange juice, boiled egg everyday. Overall, it was a pleasant stay! Very friendly staff and they speak good English :)

I have been reading the review of this Hostel before booking. Most of them gave a very good review and I'm supporting them. It is worth the price that we pay. Can be classified as 4 stars Hotel. The lobby is very simple, nice and comfortable. Simple free buffet breakfast. Staff very nice and helpful. Very convenient, near Higashi-hie Subway (approx 10 mins) and also JR Hakata Subway (approx 20 mins)

Clean, comfortable, strategic location”
The hostel is very clean. I really like the bathroom, great space provided to keep your belongings before entering the shower (so you don’t get wet while putting your clothes back on). Generous breakfast is provided in the morning too. The dorm bed was great. Comfy duvet, personal power outlets, lockers and good air-conditioner. The hostel is located just a stroll away from Hakata Station.

1. Got a 6 bed room but since there was only 2 of us it was even better 2. Clean spacious room with comfy bed 3. Same floor as toilet & bathroom so that was good. Both spacious and clean as well 4. Close to subway and airport 5. Reception open till 1am is another plus point 6. Too bad could enjoy the free breakfast as we had an early flight to catch

A Hostel with a comfort of a Hotel. Beyond expectations!”
Great hostel that doesn't actually feel like a hostel. When we went inside, we felt the coziness it brings to us guests. It has a very nice lounge area and a place where you can dine and have a chit chat with. The staffs greeted us with a smile. Very hospitable and polite, same as most of the people we've crossed into during our stay here. Pros: 1. Free breakfast - butter/raisin/white bread, boiled egg, potato salad, coffee, water 2. Spacious, and each bed has its own power outlet - very convenient 3. Complete toiletries daily - from toothbrush/paste, razor, brush, cotton buds, towels, (nice conditioner :) 4. Our room has balcony with nice view! 5. Very friendly, accommodating and helpful staffs :) Before we left, one of the staff even went outside to get us taxi as it was rush hour on a Friday. Arigatou gozaimashita! Cons: I cannot think of any. One of the best budget friendly accommodation we stayed in Japan. Highly recommended! Thanks again Montan. Matane :)

Except one thing, that I had to do the bed stuffs by my own but despite that, it was perfect! The sleeping space was so cozy and the USB charger was also a great idea. The shower facilities were also nice. 침구류를 스스로 설치해야하지만 감안해서도 완벽했습니다. 자는 공간은 매우 아늑했고 콘센트 옆에 USB 단자도 있어서 편했습니다. 샤워시설도 아주 괜찮았습니다.

the location is great - very near to the higashi-hie subway station - the station staff pointed me to use exit 1 but if you have luggage do take exit 3 with the escalator. i stayed at the double bed room and the room is very comfy.. they even clean the room and made the bed everyday, totally unexpected. the staffs are friendly as well... the best hostel i stayed so far..

Montan Hakata Hostel is very much recommended for budget travels and group travellers. Excellent location - near international airport, near hakata station and more! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and comfotable. Free breakfast is super ok! I love the potato salad..ambiance is so homey!

Trendy stylish hostel”
I booked a family room with attached bathroom for my family. Although the room is small and ceiling low for the upper deck bunk bed, but is sufficient to fit 4 adults. Love the simple breakfast and the location is superb. No problem to drag luggage from the subway exit. Clear instructions were given on which exit to use. Friendly staff to help us with our luggage storage before checking in. Overall experience is happy. Definitely will recommend to those who wish to stay near Hakata Station.

Perfect stay, exceeded expectations”
Great location in Hakata. Far enough from the city noise yet near enough to local ramen and udon restaurants. And 3 kinds of konbini. Only 550 meters from the Hakata station too. Near a park. Near food trucks during lunch. Grab a delicious bento from the nice old ladies at the corner of the street. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable private room with a balcony. Overall a well-designed hostel. Will be back for sure! Thank you.

Great location. Friendly and helpful staffs. The free breakfast might be a bit low on protein but the potato salad was one of the best for me. We forgot to change the Thai version of “Thank you” on the chalkboard (while we were there it was “สวัสดี” which means “Hello”), so I’m going to write it here: ขอบคุณ!

Great value for a comfortable stay”
It's a great hotel/hostel for all kinds of travellers. The dorm room I stayed in was very spacious, clean and with comfortable beds. I also saw a lot of family travellers staying in the guest rooms. The surrounding environment is also great. It's located in a quiet location among some business buildings (where you can have a feel of the office workers life in the mornings on your way out to excursions), the nice park around the corner even features some sakura. It's about 7-10min walk to the JR Hakata station and just the airport is basically just 15min away. The staff are all helpful and friendly. It's just a great place to stay!

Great location- walking distance to airport. We walk to airport in just 20 minutes. This sound crazy but the experience was incredible. Around 7 minutes to Hiigashi train station. You may choose to walk to Hakata main station within 15 minutes too. Everything is just so convenient. Clean hostel with great facilities - with this price, the services and facilities provided by the hostel is considered awesome. Nothing to complaint!
