cozy home”
everyone was lovely! especially the charming manager who lives there, quite a character communicating with every guest via his cool translator device :) Although small, it felt spacious and welcoming. my only complaint was the very squeaky bunk bed. Super location between both train stations, well-centered for perfect walking around town. Or Yamamoto bike rental, 5 minutes down the street! I will definitely stay again!!

Unbelievably good value for little money ”
When I first got there it looked a bit shabby from outside. But once inside I was convinced that this is a super hostel. Close to resin station and within walking distance of the great Buddha. Very clean. Nice little kitchen. Washing for 200 yen. Drying only on the coin loundry that is one minute away. Mini criticism. The bathrooms were extremely small

Comprehensive review”
Value for money: Super cheap compare to other hostel/hotels. Location: Around 8-10 minutes walk to JR Nara station, supermarket (Kohyo) and 7'11. Cleanliness: Super clean and comfortable. Staff: He doesn't know how to speak English, so we cannot understand him clearly. Facilities: small bathroom and rooms. Not sound proof so you will hear chit chats and footsteps upstairs.

Very good”
A rather strange experience insofar as I saw one member of staff for about 30 seconds during my one night stay. Upon arrival, a card was left for me at reception with the number of my bed, and I simply left in the morning. That said, it was a pleasant enough stay as all I needed was a bed to sleep in! Location is within walking distance of the main sites and shops / restaurants. Nara Station is also close by. I would happily stay again given my rather simple requirements of a bed, a shower and somewhere to make coffee.

nice staff, but room a bit small”
the staff was ok, actually left our key at the reception for our late chk in, room was a bit small for 3 adults, bathroom was a bit small, and a bit not clean enough, but overall, good recommend for ppl visiting nara.

Good budget hostel, in a quiet area away from the busy tourist streets”
Nice social area for chatting, but showers had cold water in the mornings - needs fixing !!!

You’re getting what you paid for.”
Place was pleasant and nice enough. Stayed in the mixed gender area with my girl and guy friend. Cross your fingers that no one’s a weirdo, because you can hear everyone and there’s only a curtain blocking you from the outside and between you and your neighbor. Since I was with friends, I felt just fine. If I had been by myself, it would have been a bit o__0 There’re 2 toilets, and you’re only allowed to use ONE of them as the other is reserved for a different room. It was always humid from everyone else’s showers and covered in all kinds of questionable body hair.

The hotel is good of the value, but the old guy who is taking care of the hotel make me feel bad”
The hotel is closed to the train station, hiding in a small alley, need a Google map to walk to there. The room is ok, but the bed, pillow all need myself to cover. When I use the kitchen, the old guy try to telling me dont usedonr eat in the public area, in my room instead,

Average”
When calling the hostel to say when i would be arriving I received a slurred "Whatt??" in Japanese after asking in English. I changed to Japanese after realising the staff member didn't speak English however the listing stated there was English speakers - a potential issue for those who don't speak Japanese. Under the bunk beds it was very dirty, and also when showering in the morning the bath had been blocked by someones hair so was pretty gross to shower in. One of the staff members also seems to live in the hostel room i was in, so has all of his "things" around his bed, slightly unusual if anything. Lastly, not a reflection on the hostel but there was a very strange guest above me in the bunk who repeated every cough or sniff or noise I made before heading to bed. I assume he had some mental issues but was slightly disconcerting.

Rude staff, mediocre location, horrible wifi, dirty bathroom”
As the title suggests, three biggest let-downs of this hostels are: 1. Staff, there is a grumpy Japanese grandpa who works as a "helper", and he is as rude as hell, during my two days stay, he shouted to people, including me. He tried to throw me out because he didn't check my booking extension and he's English is probably insufficient to understand the booking confirmation. Oh, one more thing, he practice English with his digital translator in the dorm, all the time, and he shouted at me when I complained. I am a decent person who deserve basic respect, and this guy shouldn't really be in any service oriented business at all. 2. The location is between the JR and Kintetsu station, which means it is a little further away from Nara park, but, Nara isn't big, so this doesn't bother me too much. 3. The wifi is one of the worst I used in a few years span, it is just slow, and jittery, if you relies on wifi to remote working then you will run into problems here. Also, the staff is not helpful either in resolving this problem. 4. The hygiene of the bathroom is not so good. Price wise it is competitive but if I was not in need of a late day sleep, I will definitely moved to somewhere else.

Disappointed”
The host and staff are friendly but the environment in general is not that clean. I only stayed in the mixed dormitory so I don’t know about other rooms. But my bed looked not cleaned up yet after use. I wanted to put my luggage under the bed but it was so dirty that I couldn’t do so. Worse still, the shower room and toilet are in the same room and it was so tiny that I could hardly walk and move around. And the most ridiculous thing is, it is shared by 10 people. So to sum up, I feel unfair to other hostels having the same score as this one because it really doesn’t deserve this rating.

Thank for your advice. We have changed now .
Average place. Awful manager. ”
I left some important medication in my locker. I emailed to double check. My new hostel also called numerous times throughout the day and never got through. Eventually (a day later) the manager emailed to say that they had 'double checked' and it wasn't there. I was sure that it was. After a stressful day worrying about how I was going to get new medication I travelled all the way back to Nara. Walked straight into the hostel, straight into the room (no security whatsoever). Low and behold my medication was exactly where I had said it was. When I told the manager this via email they helpfully suggested that it couldnt have been there and that I was wrong. Whilst staying there I was confused about the absense of any staff. Afterall the wall is pasted with messages alluding to their greatness. Alas, maybe they stay out of the way because they are actually quite obnoxious and would just piss everyone off. Stay there if you want, but I'm sure there are tons of other places with good people who own them.

Cheap but really clean, welcoming and conveniently located place”
Since it's a guesthouse (dormitory style), it's a lot cheaper than hotels. That said, the place is really clean and I would recommend it to solo travellers. The owner was also really helpful and nice with me - he waited until almost 11pm for me to check in, due to a confusion with the address. From here it's easy to go to the train station, and also easy to walk to the major attractions in Nara (about 20-30 minutes, depending on how relaxed you go). TIP: When I typed it in Google Maps, I got instantly redirected to Nara Guesthouse. Make sure you select and have Nara Deer Hostel instead, because they're two different places (and the guesthouse is farther from the station).

A great hostel in Nara! ”
A really clean hostel nearby JR Nara Station. I had a bit of trouble finding it (as it is down some backstreets) but not a big issue. The hostel isn't always staff, so you'll usually have to let yourself in, but again, not an issue. Nara Deer hostel is nearby one of the main shopping streets, and isnt too far from the deer park. I would definitely stay here again if I go back to Nara!

Very new and clean ”
Lovely hostel and looked brand new so very clean. All feel very light and a lot of space in the rooms. Really good location for the park and shops/restaurants. Felt pricey compared to the rest of Japan but very cheap for Nara (thinks it's just an expensive area). There are a couple of nice communal areas and a small outside patio. Only small feedback would be there are no bins in the rooms or bathrooms. Also it's advertised as one beds in a 6 bed dorm but it was actually a 12 bed (6 bunk beds) so a lot more than I expected. It was ok as it was quiet but would have been annoying if it was busier.

Thanks. our big dorm room is 10 beds. The room is 3 times bigger than 6-bed room. If there are not too much guest, we plan 5 guests to stay in 10-bed room. And everyone will get a lower bunk bed.
Cool”
Being technically the first customer of this hostel, I have to say, there and both pros and cons from my perspective. Very quiet since I'm the only person. Smell of paint to some extent since it is new. 10mins walk from Nara Satation. Economical price.
