Hotel Oliver
Chelsea,Chelsea - View on map"Located in the expensive Kensington area, the price is considered affordable for the room size. Not being discriminative, but for safety reasons, if you are considered morbidly obese / had knee surgery(ies) / have gout problems / on wheelchair, please book another hotel. The room and water closet (so tiny it cannot be classified as a toilet) are just tiny for a normal human to manoeuvre. It is a lucky thing that I am flexible and not obese. I was with my family in Oliver during 2004, and returning for nostalgic reasons. As my conference was in Tower Hill, and the Royal College of Music is within reach for concerts, this came as a fitting choice. PROS: Arrive at Earl’s Court from either airport Terminals 1, 2, 3 or 4. Then exit onto Earls Court Road, NOT Warwick Road, you will turn left, pass Sainsbury’s and hotel is opposite the road after the junction; Grade II historical British style white building; Boss Bobby is friendly (he wears a turban); kettle, jugs and basic utensils provided at pantry with unlimited tea and coffee 24/7; TV with interesting British and international channels; Ms Husna is generous with complimentary breakfast of orange juice, cornflakes, toast, jams, butter, ham, egg, Tesco yoghurt; 4 pounds for breakfast for each extra guest; traditional key hole mechanism; clean bedroom and bathroom with fixed shower; small bar soap / packet shampoo; two towels provided with room service. CONS: 20 pounds’ deposit for TV remote / safe key (keep receipt for refund when checking out); no heating in room – despite complaints – seriously cold; shower head very wobbly (the water splashed onto ceilings when showering – water pressure was excellent though with heated water all the time); beddings and curtains quite dated despite the minor refurbished wallpapers. But given the price, please do not expect 5-stars service. OVERALL: I may stay here again due to the convenient location. Do bring extra jacket in case there is no heating (again). "
