The room was spacious and clean. View of a public garden. Housekeeping daily. The staff was courteous and helpful, including the security person. Very close to Atocha train station (walking distance) which made it easier to get to other parts of Spain. Definitely recommended place to stay if you're visiting Madrid.

location across from Atocha Station is great for train connections and airport travel. rooms are comfortable, well furnished with minibar and coffee machine. Nice staff at reception and lobby.

This charming property is also across the street from the Prado Museum. Convenient access is unsurpassed, and there are many shops and restaurants in the area. Our room was well designed and very comfortable. We appreciated the large bed with great pillows and the flat-screen TV with international channels. The closet with safety-deposit box and the minibar refrigerator were great assets. We were very happy with this choice and will consider the hotel again for future visits to Madrid. Quality and attention to detail are distinct trademarks of the NH Nacional. Thank you very much!

Small rooms but perfect location!”
Your best option in Madrid if you will be frequently using the trains. 5mins away from Atocha station. Rooms are a bit small with no space to open luggage😳 But everything else was good.

On the last day we were there, we asked the front desk stuff about the cost of breakfast, he told us €8.50 per person, but instead they changed us €25 per person. Be wired the communication problem there.

Excellent”
Only stayed for one night as we were taking a train from Atocha station. Rooms are a bit on the small side but for a short stay it isn't a major problem. Location to Atocha train station is excellent so if you are taking an AVE train to another part of Spain this hotel is a good choice. Breakfast is decent enough.

Almost perfect ”
The hotel is in a very good location and convenient if traveling by train. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The only thing that needs a real improvement is the cleanliness. The room floor is really dusty. We stayed 3 nights but the floor didn’t get clean. The hotel provided slippers which turn from white to black because of the dust.

We had a 7 am start and when checking out I asked if we could buy a coffee before leaving? As no facilities in room. The answer; only if you pay for a full breakfast. Really? With hotels on their knees at the moment a little more flexibility could be a good idea.

Disappointment”
As NH brand, expected better. Booked a standard room not knowing no amenities will be given, cleanliness is the worst, smell of room unclean. Any 4 stars standard room is way better. Requested a change, other rooms given as options were in same condition. Cleaning definitely has problem here. Hotel staff told us this is just a NH not NH collection and if we want to cancel they will approve the cancellation. Imagine arriving the hotel after the entire day of travelling and find a hotel with problems. Eventually got an upgrade and 1 free breakfast, thanks! But not recommended really. Paid 120 GBP a night for 5 nights !!!!

This place is totally overrated. Honestly, you could get a much nicer place with excellent location at around the same price or possibly even cheaper than this hotel. My husband and I booked a standard room with a queen bed. We were told upon check in that there was only a standard room with a twin bed available and if we wanted a queen bed, we would have to upgrade to a larger room with a terrace. The upgrade was just 50€ which we didn’t mind, but when we got to the room.. we were shocked at how small it was. And this was the larger upgraded room! I can’t imagine how tiny the standard room would have been. Size of the room aside, everything was just horrible. The room was so so hot and stuffy. The aircon doesn’t work! It was 37 degrees celcius outside and we just were put in a foul mood. We read some comments that said we have to call the front desk to turn on the aircon?Seriously, who does that ? The bed was super horrible and really really squeaky. Receptionist told us the upgrade would give us a queen sized bed but it wasn’t a queen bed, it was a double. My husband and I aren’t very big or tall (we are Asian size), so I can’t imagine what an uncomfortable squeeze it would be for people who are taller and with larger physique. Oh and let’s get to the bathroom. The hand soap bottle was empty and the shower gel/shampoo and conditioner bottles in the shower was also almost empty. The toilet bowl was just ridiculously placed. It was so close to the sink table that every time you sat down in the bowl, your thigh would be pressed up against the cold table. It was just very awkward and something so simple and yet so poorly constructed, I couldn’t comprehend. Shower was a bit small to move around in but at least the heater and water pressure was pretty good. The room came with a reading chair and a desk (huge cracks all over), lighting was poor in the room too. Terrace was okay, but awkwardly close to the next room. Location is Excellent! ”
NH Nacional was perfect! The location is ideal, as it's centrally located and within walking distance to the main attractions. The Hop On - Hop Off bus is right in front of the Hotel, and there's a beautiful park area across the street. The staff is friendly and very helpful, although only a few speak English. (We found that most people in Madrid do not speak English.) The rooms are very comfortable and well maintained. I would highly recommend this hotel!

our travel agent searched for hours/days for the best hotel in madrid based on our budget and we were very happy with the nh nacional hotel. the location was perfect, a short walk from the rail station and our arrival train into madrid, and the surrounding streets and plazas were crowded with people, shops, rastaurants and bars. the rooms are not large but more than adequate for our stay. all in all a great stay.

excellent Madrid visit”
NH Nacional is in a great location for visiting art galleries and access to express airport bus. Room was excellent and breakfast unbeatable. As at Sep 2018 some work is underway in reception area, but this is well managed and not disruptive. As with all city hotels traffic noise can be an issue, but not too bad, (ear plugs a good tip).

we stayed 2 nights in madrid and great experience. we took airport-bus from madrid airport and bus arrived at atocha train station, just 5 min walk from nh national hotel! the hotel also located very close to sol, prado museum, and many shopping area. good cost performance.
