Great Family Getaway!”
My family of 4 had an awesome 2 night stay! My daughter and I stayed in one king bed room and my husband and son stayed in another room that had a queen bed and pullout couch. Both rooms came with extra lamps, fans and control of heating/ac plus heated blankets. We came with 3 other larger families and had the best time! The staff is super friendly and hospitable. There was something for everyone including private onsen, free WiFi, fireplace in the common area that has 2 reclining sofas and 5 dining tables. The outside area featured a deck along with additional seating and fire pits (small fee for firewood but totally worth it) and bbq grills. Meals are also available at extra cost. We paid for breakfast our last day which was wonderful but we also had a huge potluck our first two nights. We’ll definitely be back again!

Very friendly, comfortable, and safe”
I stayed in the dormitory for two nights. I wish I'd stayed longer, and will come back for sure. I slept very well and was very warm during the cold winter nights. The dorm is very safe, and the staff are very friendly. It's a 20 minute walk from Nikko train station up a small hill, but worth it. The location is quiet and secluded, and the guesthouse itself has everything you could need.

Amazing stay”
The owner speaks fluent Japanese and English. When we stayed she had her friend over who helps her with the place often. and he spoke English as well. They were welcoming and I had a memorable experience.

Quiet, cosy and friendly ”
A long way from the train station if you don’t have your own transport and miss the information about the shuttle times. But our family room was comfortable with its own bathroom and the common room was welcoming, as were the staff. Breakfast was simple but delicious- try the French toast!

A quick night stay”
Locate away from main town in a very quiet place with greeneries. Good for those arriving by car, unless you love walking. The duplex family room is big enough for 4 adults with 2 young kids though a bit tight in space. Room decor are family type and very basic. You get the feel of old local living style. No lift and limited parking space.

My impression with this Hotel”
The hotel stand on the mountain and difficult for sightseeing but good natural feeling

Acceptable”
Cheap. Freezing in the bathroom (where anybody could see you from outside, by the way...) and in the dormitory. The shower was falling appart. The common room was cosy though.

CRAZY expensive for what they have to offer. Location is TERRIBLE, out of town can't walk anywhere. ”
This is ther first review of this kind that I leave... but I feel I owe to others as the reviews that I read about the 'hotel' were great. Location: FAR from town so if you don't have a car, the only options of getting there is a taxi, walking or the 'shuttle service', which sounds great, when in reality is terrible. I called the hotel for half hour and there was no answer. At the tourist information office they told us to go to their hotel in town... they tried calling the 'shuttle' for another hour and a half. We finally found a taxi that could take us (the first one wouldn't take us there). Upon arrival we were told that the shuttle could take us back wherever we wanted. When we wanted... we were told NO. Price: It was one of the most expensive hotels that we stayed at in Japan and it was the worst. Room: it didn't look at all like the advertisement photos. It was an old, turquoise painted, somewhat broken bed, old run down bathroom, etc. Customer Service: Terrible.

Lovely hotel with an extraordinary service”
Nikko Park Lodge Mountain Side was a bit of a far walk from the station (we didnt try walking, but it feels like it would be a 15-20min walk with potential of going the wrong way). A cab from station to the lodge cost less than 800yen. Room we had was amazing.. 2storeys, with 4beds (making it very good value if we had 4person) with a small chandelier to light up the room. fully carpetted to keep your feet warm. There was however a lot of ladybugs in the room, especially at night. (i dont know how they come in since all windows were close, 3 of them even managed to go INSIDE the tv remote.) i like ladybugs, they are pretty and very harmless... but perhaps just too many.. made walking difficult since i didnt wanna kill them. This may or may not be a problem depending on how you view ladybugs. I believe this might only occur during the cold season since they enter the room for warmth near the lights. just on the ceiling alone, i counted 40 before i fell asleep. hehehe (there was at least another 20+ on the chandelier and a couple more on the first storey) ladybugs aside, the service was extraodinary. if i was to give a rating, it would be 10/10, if not more. we found the other branch of NPL and they went out of their way to drive us up the mountain side branch. They also let us leave our luggages at the other branch while we visited the shrines after checking out. When we were late for the dinner buffet, they cooked more chicken (cuz there was only 1 left by the time we got there) and put the plate on our table.. made especially for us... with a platter of fruits to top it off. The lobby was very cosy with a fire place and very comfy sofas. free well maintained and fast internet terminals (2 of them), and free wifi. If you are worried about language, Ken (the boss) and MOST of the other staff are actually very fluent in english so no need to worry. They will also try their best to advise you on the places in nikko to visit with some background history as well

Beautiful little cottage in the mountains”
It is useful to take the shuttle from the Nikko Park Lodge in the town centre to get to the Mountain lodge with luggage. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The Mountain Lodge is beautiful with the scenery. The dinners and breakfasts are reasonably priced and delicious too. It does get a bit cooler up in the mountains but it's definitely worthwhile to be further away from the town centre to get a different view and atmosphere. Plus the staff at the lodge will help you map out the walking path to the heritage sites!

Friendly staff and cozy hotel”
I stayed at the Nikko Park Lodge Mountain Side overnight. I was pleasantly happy with the hotel staff. The atmosphere of the hotel was cosy and inviting. If I was to return to the town of Nikko I would definitely stay again at Nikko Park Lodge Mountain Side and would happy to spend 2-3 nights.

Relaxing place in a quiet mountain area”
We had a great time at the Nikko Park Lodge Mountain Side. We reserved two rooms. One was big with a couch, TV, fireplace, and three beds in a loft room. The other was a small cozy room with a double bed and a couch. Both rooms had their own bathrooms and there was plenty of space for our family of 5. The hotel doesn't have an onsen but there is one only 5 minute walk away or another larger one 5 minute drive away if you have a car. The location would be hard to get to if coming from the train station but we had a car so it wasn't a problem for us. I saw the owner giving someone a ride to the train station when we were leaving so that is an option if you are coming by train, We had breakfast here and it was Western style and delicious. We look forward to coming back in the fall when the leaves have turned.

Nice and homely stay ”
It's was dark when we reach Nikkon in the evening, abit hard to locate the hotel. So we went to the Nikko park lodge Tobu Station to ask for the actual location. The staff was very friendly and even offer to get the other staff from Mountain side to fetch us. The hotel was cozy, the staff was friendly. Dinner was yummy. Quite and cold surrounding. Nicely decorded with light on the exterior of hotel. Lobby with a fire place for warm heat. Room are sweet. When check out, we leave our luggage to the counter staff and was told that we can collect our luggage at the Tobu station lodge....this is so much easier for us. (But there was a cost of 200yen) Haahaa.

Cosy lodge”
Our stay was quite short but pleasant enough. We were picked up by car on request from the Nikko Park Lodge close to Tobu Nikko train station even though we arrived a little after 5pm. We had the teriyaki chicken and teriyaki salmon set dinner meals at the lodge which cost 1200 yen each. A bit more expensive than the meals you can get in the restaurants close to the station but we didn't want to walk 20 mins there and back in the dark. The dinner set included rice, salad consisting of shredded cabbage and carrot, pickles, miso soup and half a cut orange. In the morning we were headed for Edo Wonderland so I asked a few questions to the female manager but unfortunately she didn't know much about the theme park so tried to find some brochures for me. The male manager was more knowledgable about getting to the park and what it was all about. We booked a twin room with private bathroom and got a room with a double bed and a single bed. Not much floor space but the room had a large tv on top of the smal bar fridge. Unfortunately we couldn't find an English channel. The beds had two feather doonas as well as electric blankets which we didn't need during spring. Shampoo, conditioner and liquid body soap provided as well as bath towel, hand towel and bath mat. No razors, tooth brushes nor face washers. The wifi was weak from our room but strong in the dining area. We were in room K on the same level as the dining area so in the morning we could hear the people upstairs running around and opening and closing doors at 6.30am which spoilt the quietness of the area. As the lodge only provides a free shuttle service to the station at 9.30am we decided to walk earlier in the morning to catch a train and bus to Edo Wonderland. The walk down hill was about 20 minutes.

A cosy hostel surrounded by trees”
Nikko Park Lodge Mountain Side is a cozy lodge with quiet but friendly staff. The furniture is fairly old, but it's comfortable and clean. The rooms have plenty of space and are equipped with everything except a kettle. My only problem was that it's quite far from the station and there aren't any bus stops close by so you either have to walk 25 mins uphill or take a taxi to get there easily. That being said, the distance places you in a beautiful area surrounded by trees and very close to the mountains. I would certainly stay there again.

Simple, affordable, and all we needed for 2 nights”
Nikko Park lodge was in a beautiful location on the mountain side. I highly recommend getting in before dark, though, if you want to find the place on your own. We got in late, and were told by train station staff that we'd never find it without a taxi. Only a 700 Y ride, so worth not getting lost with luggage at night. They were accommodating of our late check-in, pleasant when we asked questions about local sites, but a bit pushy about wanting us to eat their high-priced western breakfast and dinner (we preferred to go out for local specialties). I'd recommend this place for travelers with simple tastes and up for walking to get around (buses operate, but walking was easier for us). Nikko is a beautiful area that I would definitely return to - the National Park was gorgeous and we wished we had more time to explore the temples and shops!

Cosy and comfortable hotel”
the hotel is a short walk from tobu nikko train station. the area around the hotel is peaceful and quiet. the rooms are comfortable and clean. there is also free wifi to connect to the internet. the staff is friendly and helpful. arrangements can be made with the hotel staff for free shuttle to the tobu nikko train station. although the hotel served breakfast and dinner at additional price, i preferred to have my meals outside.
