Really good experience staying at the Grand Hotel Scarborough ”
Just returned from a very good weekend stay at the Grand Hotel Scarborough. We were a bit wary of what we would find when we got after reading the negative reviews. The Hotel is absolutely fine, clean and tidy, very friendly professional staff who would do anything to make sure your stay is a memorable one. Looking forward to returning soon.

A delightful stay - room exceeded expectations and staff couldn’t be more helpful - hotel undergoing revamp but this didn’t detract from stay - if you’ve time do explore rest rooms/ball room(s) exceptional - the hotel is steeped in history - a beautiful find - and one could almost believe one had stepped back in time - art decor!!! A big thank you to the ladies on reception who couldn’t be more complimentary and made our stay relaxing and stress free.

We had our dog with us but we're put on the 4th floor which was rediculous as we had to get the lift then walk through a maze of doors to get to our room. A lower floor would have been better for taking him out. We also booked a room with a window but you couldn't see out of it because of the pigeons that were on the sill all night and they had messed all up the window and it hadn't been cleaned for months maybe years. We will not be staying there again we did a trial of 1 night to see how it would be for the dog but sadly never again

Lovely hotel in a great location central to all amenities. The hotel staff were friendly and the room was clean and bigger than what we expected. The hotel also offers great entertainment. We'll be back again.

We were on level -3 (basement) the lift was very jumpy and smelly as well as the corridors. In the room it was quite clean apart from inside the kettle that was really bad so we didn't use it. We reported the t.v as that wasn't working they said they would inform maintainence. We checked in at 2pm as advised and when we got to the room there was a housekeeper still sorting the room out, the staff overall were nice especially the housekeeping staff. Whilst we are aware the building is very old it needs updating and general maintainence there was paint and mould on the walls on the stairs, I also had problems with my phone there was no service because off where we were (-3 basement). We have stayed in all 3 Britannia hotels in Scarborough and this is the worst out of them. We feel that it's also the small things that make a stay pleasant and comfortable, and this is also how hotels get returning customers and recommendations.

We (family, with 2 children) booked 2 rooms and stayed here 1 night during Christmas holiday. The location is very nice. We can see Scarborough beach from Spa Bridge. We can also see the beach from our room's window. We got spacious rooms. The slight negative is that WiFi is not available in our room. We have to buy unlimited Internet if we want to use it. Free WiFi only available for 20 minutes.

Listed building so looks tired in places. Our stay was lovely, comfortable beds, quiet tidy rooms. Food ok not brilliant but acceptable. Staff pleasant.

We haven't stopped at the grand for a few years, It was looking tired last time we stopped. But nothing has improved in the 3 years since last time. Lifts out of order. And broken glass not replaced from years ago. I feel sorry for the staff who have to take complaints from the public, When it's clearly the owners who are not investing in the building. But on saying all that it's cheap, And needs to be

While can look a bit dated but is a very clean with brilliant white bedding with clean sheets and pillow case. Carpet coming to end of use, but was presentable to point of passable. I would also point out to the price paid for room and breakfast one has to say extremely good value and would be hard to beat. Staff so helpful and pleasant always available to help or assist. Will stay there again

Friendly staff but they seemed to be stressed out. Booked this via this website. Once at the hotel we were told that our room wasn't going to be ready on time, was then told there may not even been a room for us and was then told there was one and it was ready...very confusing. Was not told what time breakfast was at check-in but when enquired later was told we should've been told at check-in and was given a slot for 10.30am...we had to check out at 10. Don't know what food was like as we didn't stay for breakfast. Also, the fire alarm went off twice during the night. They were no fires.

On arrival we had to Que for at least 30 minutes to check in. Our room was down in the basement somewhere with no window, quite claustrophobic. When looking round the room the toilet seat was on the floor at the side of the toilet. When we went to hang clothing in the wardrobe the rail and all the contents fell on the floor. We were in the room at around 6pm and there was a dog that had been left in the room next door and obviously left alone, the whole time we were in the room getting ready to go out for the evening the dog howled and cried. We went to reception to report all of the above and were told that they would send someone straight away to fix the toilet seat and wardrobe rail but no-one came and the repairs were not completed. We feel that the hotel could be a fantastic place to stay if it was updated more and the rooms in the basement were more appealing as it felt like being in the dungeons.

The Grand is not for every one , its rather tired looking and needs Millions spending on it to bring it up to a reasonable standard . But value for money it's exceptional and the breakfast and evening meal we could not fault .
