I only booked this place to save money, so I didn't expect much. The receptionist was nice and friendly but I found the facilities pretty bad, such as taps not working, no plugs in washbasins etc. My room was good because it had 2 single beds, so I was able to take the pillow off the spare bed, as I needed more than one pillow as they were so thin! The mattress was comfortable and the duvet was clean. I found the layout of the building confusing, so many corridors etc, so I kept getting lost! I left early without having breakfast., so I can't comment on that. I won't be coming to Nomad Backpacker again, I'd rather spend more and go to Travelodge instead.

Unhygienic in many areas”
I’ve stayed in a fair few hostels and am well aware of the basics they provide, and Nomad Backpackers on the surface was good. Staff friendly and helpful. Decent facilities (tv room, and social areas with a pool table) however the overall cleanliness left A LOT to be desired. The toilet took about 8 tries to flush, as such, most didn’t bother. Not helped by the amount of hand towels put down to block it completely. The mould on the walls of the shower room/bathroom was extensive. The room was basic, and very cold. I moved the bed to be closer to a plug socket and it was clear under the bed had not been cleaned or swept for some considerable time. In the morning, breakfast was a little on the light side. Most of the bread and cereal had gone (there was a large party staying) and on looking in the cupboards for bread/cereal found more mould and extremely dirty interiors. Rather put me off eating, no staff around to keep an eye on lack of food or that others cleared up after themselves.

I booked a single room for my two-day stay in Cardiff. It’s located basically at the City Center. Extremely convenient if you wanna eat out, get cultured and go to cultural institutions (I recommend this!), [window] shopping, or just bar hop around the area. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The room, kitchen, showers, and lounge are very clean and well maintained. I loved it very much. Thank you for an amazing atmosphere! I will definitely come back here!

The hostel is ok!”
Actually a good hostel. Nice, friendly staff. Location is ok. But the furniture and hygiene of the shower and toilets are not in best condition. Basic breakfast, expect nothing more. In total the Hostel is quite good. For me, as a backpacker who just need a place to sleep it’s enough and I don’t expect anything more.

Staff friendly, pool table and lounge area good to chill in. Clean in all areas. Simple rooms with bunk beds, shared kitchen and bathrooms. Only downside was having no toilet and bathroom in own room

Don't stay over weekends if you want to sleep”
I've stayed in a private room for two nights, I found it quite expensive for what I've got, very unconfortable and thin spring mattress, no blinds (as it's summer it means wake up at 5am), very hot during the day (no fan), no hooks, tables or any other support for wet towels etc.. just a single bed and a mirror. But my disappointment was more on my second night (Saturday) that I could not sleep as there is no silence policy at night and people where going out and coming back till 4am talking loudly and shouting outside reception (my room was just over it) and on the stairs. I also got twice someone trying to break in my room while looking for a free room so I guess they were not staying. I found it unbelivable as there is a 24 hours reception with two staff and no one did anything about it. I felt very unsafe.

Great place but important things need attention”
The general presentation of this place is fantastic. Someone has done a really good job with all of the livery, lighting, comfort of the shared areas. But the rooms and especially the bathrooms/showers need urgent attention because they're dangerous, frankly. I was in a shower when the automatic energy-saver light went out leaving me in total darkness. Moving didnt turn it back on again so I was left feeling for the door which then wouldn't open! These things need urgent attention as they're foul of the law. Someone could get into serious difficulties with the problem I outlined.

Nice hostel actually but..”
It was unusual for me as foreigner had to leave my passport as a key room guarantee. But after argue, they only asked £10 for deposit of key room (a real key room, not key card just like another hostel I’ve visited/only £2-5 deposit).

I would rather prefer sleep on a bed”
Disconfy bed, better sleep on a floor than on that mattress. Noisy people in the hostel. Bit chilly in the room even after heater on all night. The rest was fine

Average hostel, we stayed at a very basic though expensive twin room with shared bathroom facilities. There were very few bathrooms and showers at the hostel and the staff never replied to us when we contacted them
