Top of the world ma. ”
Didn't have breakfast, so I gave 5 stars as there was no N/A option. The room was on the top floor. I passed Sir Edmund Hillary & Tenzing Norgay at their base camp on the way up to my room. Comfy bed, not really suited for anyone over 5'8" (175cm) and quite a bit of noise from excited climbers reaching the summit.
Piss on the carpet ”
I was a disappointed by how shabby it looked on the outside. It also smelled like people had been smoking in it. The staff were nice. And the location was good. Our room was in the basement. It was super musty and not clean down there. Absolutely a terrible place for a one year old. No refunds and I’m not made of money so I thought I’d put up with it for one night. Well, there was a sink in the room, and I noticed a smell of urine. It was on the carpet all around the sink. Some drunk guy probably tried and failed to piss there. So disgusting. It was bed time for us when I boticedthis but I told This, I told the front desk and they moved our room. The next room was on the second level. It had a bathroom, very clean, and two beds, nicer decor as well. Basically, the basement was terrible but had we got the second room from the get go it would have been alright for our money. We had breakfast the next morning, an hour later my daughter puked it all up. dont eat there
Muito bom”
Clean & good location
Was allocated room on 2nd floor with no lift. Has small child and pushchair. Did sent a request.”
The hotel did not received my Request that I have small child and baby. Room allocated on 2nd floor with no lift. No vegetarian breakfast, and soya milk. Had to buy my own. Was allocated room on ground floor the 2nd nite. Room was clean, comfortsble and big enough.
Stayed here a few times; this time it smelled like smoke”
I have stayed at Smiths Hotel a few times. The owner(?) has recognised me on many occasions. This one time the room smelled like smoke when I first arrived, and in the morning the bathroom smelled so strongly of stale smoke that it was hard to feel clean. I told the staff but the smell was still there. Not great to be honest.
Outdated, dirty and rude staff.”
There is no lift. The hotel is very old and out of date. No parking. Your expected to pay to park on the street or there is a grungy alley you can park in that holds no more than 6 cars, 3 being blocked in. Breakfast is juice and cereal. You have to leave your key at the desk when you leave . A member if the staff is supposed to unlock the drop box when you turn to get your key, but most every time the staff was too busy on personal calls to unlock the box. The combo is 000. Not safe at all!!! The staff was very rude, discourteous and woke me up each morning. Horrible and rude people. Never again
Ideal for a cheap hotel within walking distance to cente”
I went with my friend to Glasgow for the weekend we chose this hotel and it was cheap and ideal distance wise to the city center and to the hydro. We were going to see war horse and wanted something walking distance away. The walk to hydro was 10 minutes and to get into town was only 15-20 walk so ideal for us. Hotel reception was managed at all times which made it easier for coming back from the town late at night. Facilities were good only down side was the room we were in was very cold (twin room with shared bathroom). I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again in the future. Obviously there was a few flaws as in the decor needs updating and maybe the toilet beside the kitchen painted to give it a cleaner feel. But you need to remember your staying in a hotel where your paying £65 for a weekend don’t go expecting the ritz but for your money’s worth it’s a great wee hotel
Good basic hotel”
The hotel is tired, but seems to be undergoing upgrade. Room small but adequate, has all that is needed. Good low priced hotel. Breakfast very good, and hotel staff helpful. First hotel in years to offfer to take cases up to room.
Good but thin walls”
Everything was great except from the man next door who kept us up with his snoring and talking, walls are paper thin. Check out meant to be 11.30 but we got someone at our door at 11.01 telling us to check out which wasn’t brilliant. Location is great and the value for money is brilliant
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here ”
Very cosy room. Prime location. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast (it was attentively cooked and served by an older lady, making you feel taken care of). Would definitely stay here again.
good enough”
If you are on a budget this will do, the rooms are a bit dated but clean enough, breakfast is ok , but I'm a bit fussy, all the food seems to be fried in the same pan, the service is quick and efficient, good coffee
If you are really on a budget and have no other choice”
Room was very cramped. Only had space for bed and the width of a person to walk to the bed.
Excelente”
basic but very clean. Staff seemed pretty nice and the breakfast was delicious. Only downside was a drunk man walking into our room at 9.30am (not by mistake I might add!)
weekend road trip”
Looked a bit rough from the outside but its far from it when you get inside the room was warm and comfy the shower worked and was hot as you like the nicest breakfast I'v had in a long time - wish there had of been haggis lovely staff keep doing what you do
Good value of money but poor soundproof”
The breakfast is excellent and the location is convenient (walking distance from Glasgow Uni. , museum and the SSE) although a little bit far away from shopping street but acceptable. The soundproof can be improved.
Good value for budget travellers”
Room was old, bed average, was sink in the room and there was a kettle with tea/coffee. Had window that could not be closed and thus was exposed to noise from the street - had to use earplugs. Was not an issue getting a shared shower as there were enough of them or just go down a floor. Wifi was good in the room. Breakfast was good i.e. a hot cooked meal cooked to order - however there is just not enough space for everyone i.e. i came down and was turned away and told to come back, and then when i came back they told me there was a limited menu - thus early risers will do better here. If you get a low price this place will not dissapoint budget travellers, but i would not pay a premium price to stay here.
Good location, friendly and helpful staff, value for money”
The hotel is pretty close to the must-see museum in Glasgow - Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The staff always smile and like to chat with you. They did their best to help me. The breakfast is basic with cereal, toast, bacon, sausages, eggs, juice and hot drink, and it was more than I expected. The room is clean and comfortable. However, there are three floors, and there is no lift. The floor is quite squeaky, so it's very noisy when someone is walking outside. There was some misunderstanding on my last day, but overall, this is still a very good hotel to me.
carpet soaking wet”
Our room was very small and on out arrival the window was wide open and there was a smell in the room. We soon realised this was because the carpet was soaking wet. When we told reception about this they just gave us some towels to put over it. Other than that, the room was spotlessly clean.
Value for money.”
Like some other reviewers, I have a sense of unfairness about some of the reviews I read before booking a three night stay in Smiths Hotel. I rang the hotel after booking and they were most accommodating in granting my requests. There were a couple of things that needed putting right when we arrived: these were sorted efficiently and quickly. We found that there was absolutely no communications issue with any of the staff; they were cheerful, obliging and efficient. The hotel is a very short walk from the Kelvingrove, and we were able to walk easily to the city centre and the Byres Road area. (If not, there are buses. Public transport in Glasgow is superb.) Our room (42) was comfortable and spacious. We opted for an en-suite room, and the facilities in the room were really good: kettle, hairdryer, TV, everything clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent: plentiful, tasty and freshly cooked. We felt that the hotel scored very highly on value for money. If you want a five-star hotel, pay a five-star price. If what you want is a bargain, stay here.
would stay again!”
Had no problems. Staff were very pleasant. Within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go, especially close to the Hydro. Rooms were comfy and had the essentials. Only real minor complaint was that the toilet was shared, one floor down and tiny/cramped.
