Traveling to Oman? Find Ash Sharqiyah hotels

The location and the staff are the key to this place. The beds are wide and very comfortable and we found it easy to keep cool or warm as required as days are hot and nights cool. The food is plentiful and exceeded our expectations. An unexpected chorus of birdsong is ever present between sunrise and sunset. Our driver guide was superb sharing with us his knowledge of the desert and the best places to experience the subtleties of the beauty of the Wahiba and nearby places such as Wadi Bani Khaled. He, and most of the staff have a sensitive and understated approach making us feel their true hospitality which is remarkable as most guests stay only one night - it deserves at least a three night stay to get under the skin of the place. The sunrise tour is worth getting out of bed for. Let's hope they don't let quad bike riders take over as they can be noisy on occasion - the Camp has restrictions on when they can be used which is essential.

Great experience in the desert, clean well orgainzed camp, I reccommend to stay here. Welcoming staff, many facilities, Omani Coffe and dates availbles for guests in the main terrace. They managed to effectively create the athmosphere of a desert camp but with the facility of a hotel. Good position, easy to reach with a jeep 4x4, but effectively in the desert, ( 15 min drive from the main road) . possibility to book activities. Well cleaned according to the italian standards.

We had a great time at this resort. They are very free dog and helpful. The night we stayed there were very busy, the resort was just about full. But the atmosphere was great. The entertainment In The main tent was an added bonus. We didn't realise when we booked that the booking comes with both breakfast and dinner both of which were great. The selection for both breaky and dinner was vast. The tent was basic but it was all we needed for our stay, we found the resort very easy to find.

I actually lived in this hotel as a resident for a couple of months 18 years ago when it was newly built as The Sur Mercure. It has gone on to change its name and presumably it's owner and become a much improved hotel over the years. I visit Sur several times a year and sometimes opt for something cheaper, but always regret it. I lived in the Sur Beach Hotel for even longer 20 years ago, and that was awful. So The Sur Plaza is still the best in town and worth the extra cost every time. The breakfast is excellent (they even have baked beans!).

We really enjoyed our stay here so much so we booked to stay a second night. The place is clean and the room (triple) was very spacious with a sea view. The staff were very friendly and really went out of their way. The food in the restaurant was very tasty and very reasonable. If you’re travelling with young kids there are multiple play areas within a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Overall a great stay at a very reasonable price.

The luxury tent itself exceeded expectations, it was nicer than most brick and mortar hotel rooms we stayed in during the trip. Spacious, very large and comfortable bed, strong A/C, and simple but more than adequate bathroom with enough hot water for a long shower. That said - for this price and given the nature of tents not being sound proof Ras Al Jinz MUST do something to limit the size or age groups of tent groups. We were surrounded by a huge family spread across two tents with seven children, several under the age of five, that treated the area as their personal jungle gym and campground and completely ruined the tranquility of the location with tvs blasting and yelling. The buffet dinner and breakfast was adequate but nothing special. We are all staying here of course to see the turtles. The center staff are very kind and clearly want to do what's best for the animals. We visited during the November low turtle season, but were lucky enough to see one laying/burying eggs at the 9pm and then another moving back out to sea at the 4am tour. Its a very special experience absolutely worth driving all the way to this corner of Oman for. That said- again other tourists spoiled it a bit. There were far more than 100 people allowed on the beach, and more than twenty in each group, the night we visited. That is simply far too many, it was hours of driving, waiting, and then being rushed by the turtles for a 30 second peak. Groups of this size are predisposed to acting desperate/like idiots- from flashing cameras, to not being quiet, to aggressively surrounding the turtles trying to get a better look.

We were booked a room with small view of the beach. We asked for one of the rooms with a balcony and were shifted to one. The view and sounds of the ocean from here were fantastic. Although the hotel is at the beach, the beach is not sandy and is unkept. So cant go there. The pool is good. Staff are helpful. Breakfast is ok. We stayed there to go to the turtle beach early morning. It is an hours drive away. Overall good place to stay at this rate. Take the top floor with the balcony room.

We drove by 2wd car to bidiyah and booked round trip transfer to the camp. The staff met us at Bidiyah Shell station and then we drove 2 min to Bidiyah Fort where you can safely park car over night. After it was 45 min drive through desert to the camp, fun experience. Camp itself is well done, dinner is full option, good spread. You can bring your own alcohol/wine they will provide glassware for you. 5 star experience in the middle of desert.

We got a great rate for this hotel on Agoda, so it was very good value. The room was spacious, the patio area connected to the room was very nice, and the shower was hot with good water pressure (although there was a slight sewage smell in the bathroom). Breakfast buffet had a lot of options and was quite good - the outdoor dining area was lovely. There are great views of the ocean from the hotel (sunrise was particularly nice). Hotel is located just 5 minutes drive from Wadi Shab, which is great. If you get an early start, you can definitely beat the crowds. The only issue was that reception didn't have a record of our booking upon our arrival. Apparently, the head office had left off several guests from that day's check-in sheet. However, it was easily resolved as there were rooms available. WiFi is only available in the public areas (such as the reception and restaurant) - it would be good if the hotel could expand this throughout the resort. Overall, a really nice stay.

If you are driving to this place at night, you might find it a little confusing to locate the driveway that leads to the guesthouse - because there isn't one! The building itself is lighted up, but you'll have to be careful to not take the wrong path and drive into shrubs etc. We (two ladies) arrived late and wanted to do turtle watching at the Ras Al Jinz resort nearby, but we were so tired from long hours of driving. Subeesh, one of the senior staff members, actually drove us to the resort (15 mins away), waited for us for about 2.5 hours, and then drove us back. He also helped us order our dinner for the night. It was very much appreciated because we are sure we would not have made it for the turtle watching on time if we had driven on our own! The Ras al Hadd beach nearby was beautiful - I think one of the best I saw in Oman, and it is within walking distance of the guesthouse. This is an excellent place, great value for money, and the staff makes all the difference. Subeesh was excellent. I would stay here again, if I was visiting the region again :)

This remote camp was a highlight of our trip to Oman! Rooms were lovely and nicely laid out. I really liked the netting for the beds so we could throw the windows open. Bathroom was clean and stocked with shampoo, soap, and even toothbrushing kits if you forgot. Meals were fantastic! The grilled chicken kabobs were the best we’ve ever had! Staff was friendly and helpful. The true highlight for us cost a little extra but was well worth it! I highly recommend the sunset camel ride. What a treat! Don’t miss taking photos of the incredible patterns in the sands of the dunes. Don’t expect WiFi or anywhere to charge your devices, and you likely won’t get phone service there anyway. I would suggest hiring a ride in to camp. It would be easy to get lost driving yourself.

This was my last night in Oman and I was very surprised with this hotel. Having in mind high prices in Oman, I wasn't expecting much for this price. But at the end this was one of the best hotels I stayed in while in Oman. Room was big and comfortable, clean, on the last floor so I had nice view of the ocean. Location is just few minutes walk from the restaurants and 15mins walk to Sur city centre. The hotel doesn't have wifi but there is Muscat Bank just next door who has free wifi. The best thing about this hotel was the staff who were very kind and allowed me early check-in and late check-out at no extra cost.

The Hotel is 3 star certified, but the facility is a 4 star one. The breakfast was good, staff was courteous, and tried to take care of even smallest of needs. The location was easy to find, as there are signboards starting from the Jetty itself. It is located in a very calm and quiet place and is a must visit for those who would like to relax, refresh, rejuvenate or simply SLEEP. The sunrise was a surprise and was one of the best things to see and experience there.

We stayed in the hotel for one night only. We were travelling around north part of Oman - 7 adult people and 3 small kids- 1; 3.5; and 4.5 years old boys) Location was very good for us as we wanted to stay close to the sea. It`s easy to get from hotel to Ras Al Jinz for turtles watching. Receptionist booked tickets for us and they gave us good directioins how to get there. We booked 4 rooms and all of them were quite spacious and light. Generally the rooms were clean but it looked like they forgot to clean under the beds and on the balcony. There was no restaurant in the hotel but there is a Small coffee shop just next to the enterance. If I ever go to Sur I will look for the room in The Al Faisal Hotel again.

Fine, principally we just needed an economical place to sleep and eat whilst visiting the turtles at Ras Al Jinz. The hotel is dated, showing signs of deterioration, poorly decorated, and the bar downstairs attracts some harmless but very intoxicated locals. In general though, the rooms were clean, the staff were friendly, and the in-room dining was really quite good. The morning buffet breakfast is again more than adequate. The other options in the area are 'novelty' grass hut style living and are quite a bit more expensive for what they are. So if you intend to spend the majority of the time exploring and visiting turtles, and only in the area for one night, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this 2-3 star hotel.

If you like to get away from it all this is a perfect beach chill out. Despite the rustic outer appearance, the rooms are surprisingly comfortable with flat screen TV, air con and a pretty good shower- if you've booked a room with a private bathroom. Take everything you need with you as it's pretty far to Sur (over 30 kilometers) and they do have fridges in the rooms, so you can keep drinks chilled. The staff are helpful and you can book turtle watching trips and a dolphin watching dhow cruise from the resort. The sea is crystal clear and you can hire snorkeling equipment/ canoes at the resort- plenty of colorful fish to see. This resort is perfect for a chilled few days away from it all- rustic Oman at its best!

Very bad experience. The rooms were very small with small window. There was concrete bed, and so it was uncomfortable. Large group of.families and bachelors made it uncomfortable, by making noise all night long, and having their rooms open with TV on and watching others. Though this was told to hotel staff, nothing was done. Breakfast was way below the standard of any hotel.

Our family of 5 stayed one night and had a wonderful experience! The owner and staff were very hospitable. This camp doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles of some of the other Desert Camps - no pool, no dinner entertainment, etc. The beds are a bit hard but it is camping after all. The tents are cozy and the linens are clean and fresh smelling. The bathroom facilities are also very clean. The setting is beautiful up against some nice dunes. My kids had a ball climbing to the top and rolling down the dunes. The sunset was beautiful. The dinner was tasty and plentiful, and we enjoyed visiting with other guests from all over the world. After dinner there is a campfire and then the lights go out and you can enjoy a beautiful desert night under the stars. We were very satisfied with our time here.

A delightful place out in the desert. Very friendly owner will pick you up from nearby town. A real pleasure chatting with him about local life etc. The camp itself is very beautiful nestling between the dunes. It's a huge effort to maintain a camp in the desert when you realise every drop of water and food needs to be transported there so it's going to be more expensive than a hotel in town. I loved the peacefulness of the place, walking in the dunes or just reading in the shade in the camp. My one disappointment was that it wasn't far enough away from light pollution. They will turn off the lights in the camp if you ask. But there were still glows on the horizon coming from the town which is quite a way away. I'd still thoroughly recommend the experience.
