Excellent food!!!! $100 NZD in total for both Superior Queen & Budget rooms via Agoda. Thanks for the great deal. Superior Queen is modern and great for those who want modern room/shower/coffee/fridge/flat screen tv/2 single beds/private deck/parking in front of your room. The decor is in the 1980's but the food is so worth it - we had the large gourmet pizza, lamb shacks and pork veal meals - awesome... Skotel has breath taking views of Mt Ruapehu - so darn close & the hinterland. Staff are so friendly - just make sure you print out your adoga booking to show the reception - as agoda mixed up my booking- lucky i printed it out. GREAT GREAT PLACE TO STAY for the superior queen room.

Arrived at the stated time on our reservation. Unfortunately our room was not ready.Waited in the lounge - offered a coffee & a tea but had to pay for this whilst waiting. Thought this should of been free. After an hour went to reception & our room was ready - they didn't come and inform us! Room was great with a superb view and clean. Evening dinner was in the Ruapehu Room.Pleasant staff and a great meal - although pricey. Room was quiet and a good nights sleep. Breakfast was buffet and had everything. In all a good stay but maintenance in areas needs looking at. Staff were vary pleasant but things like dinner & drinks pricey.

The best part of staying at the Adventure Lodge is enjoying the service of the helpful and dedicated staff. They change hats several times a day as they move from front desk to kitchen to transport vans. The restaurant hours are limited, so inform them of your order in advance. It's probably your best bet for breakfast, especially if you are heading out onto the trails, but I'd recommend a walk to Schnapps or the Station at dinnertime for variety. The hotel provides trail transport for a fee and complimentary shuttle to/from the rail station. The lodge room is very nice when they get the fireplace going. It's a terrific spot to get to know your fellow hikers. The rooms are modest but comfortable. Some have en-suite facilities while others share large bath/shower rooms.

My wife and I stayed at Kings for a week with our two infant children and were very pleased with the room and the service. Tracy and her staff were very friendly, and went out of their way to keep us comfortable during our stay. They even had toys available for our son to play with while we ate in the restaurant. The room was comfortable, very warm, modern shower and cosy bedding. This is a good place to stay close to Turoa - the road up the mountain is only two streets away. Thanks for taking care of us Tracy!

The Powderhorn Chateau was a delightful surprise. The Hotel is in a Beautiful Setting, very close to the quaint "old" part of Ohakune by the railway and at the foot of the road to the mountain. The alpine architecture of the Hotel is superb. The room was spacious with a lovely view across to a stream and the bed extremely comfortable. There were tea and coffee making facilities, plus a mini bar. The restaurant was very good, although the main restaurant the Matterhorn was closed for the summer. The breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly, prompt and helpful. We shall return.

We loved our stay at Quest Palmerston North. The staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival and departure. The room was well equiped (a big must when travelling with a 12 month old!), very modern and had a lovely view of The Square. We stayed while my husband did the Tour De Manawatu, perfect location for the ride! We would definitely stay there again, but for longer next time :)

A hiccup at check in, but stay went well after. No remote for Freeview (had made it to another room??) Extra blankets, for those that don’t like having the heater on high all the time, may be an option. Room 7, rear hob seems to have just one temperature (temperature does not reduce as numbers do, made cooking rather difficult) Advertises a children’s play area (sign needs updated, as we couldn’t find it. Otherwise a great stay.

We travelled as a family and was just passing through Palmerston North on our way to Wellington. The stay at this motel was excellent. If we come back to Palmerston North in the future, we would definitely booked with them again. Value for money, very clean unit and very hospitable hosts. You can't go wrong booking here. Ask for a unit away from the main roads for a quieter stay (if traffic noise bothers you).

We were staying with our family who were competeing in the Manawatu Age group swimming champs. They are aged 8, 10 & 12 and before a major event like this need a good nights sleep. At approx. 10.15pm I contacted reception to request that they do something about the unacceptable noise happening both out front and behind our room. Whether anything was done seemed to be ignored as noise continued until just before 11.00pm when a vehicle left making more unnecessary noise. There seemed to be a total disregard for the comfort of fellow motel guests. We will not be looking to stay at this location again!!!

We really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was clean and tidy and there was a lot of room to relax. There were plenty of towels, the heating was more than adequate and we could not fault anything. It was so close to the shuttle to get to Tongariro, the location was perfect for us. The packed lunch was great and it was convenient. The breakfast was all you could want to start the day. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had the best sleep because it was so quiet. We had an excellent stay and we would come back again.

Only reason it got 4 stars for value is, well, everything could always be a little cheaper eh. And 4 stars for facilities is because the spa pools were 35degrees which is really only a bath, perhaps some maintenance is needed - although it is really cold at the moment. Apart from that an amazing place to stay and I really couldn't recommend it high enough. Word to the wise is request a room up top if you're easily disturbed by kids running around above you (as that did happen one evening), but honestly not a bother for us. Staff were exceptionally good and accommodating, happy to help us find a place to dine. If you get stuck for a place to eat in peak season during school holidays, that big pub down the road is good, but if it's full don't be afraid to hold off till 8 as it cleared up for us by then. Can't say it'd be the same if a big game and perfect weather were happening though. Hiring gear at Ski Biz is cheaper than up the mountain with good service too.

Ohakune is not the most exciting place - especially in bad weather. LKNZ Lodge is a really lovely motel and was a nixe hidyhole from the wind and rain! Our room was upstairs and was cosy and clean. We didn't use the hot tub but had we stayed longer (and had there not been a cyclone) we would certainly have hopped in! We had a nice view off the outside landing up to the mountains - no doubt spectacular in ski season. Should we find ourselves in this part of the world again I would hesitate to stay here.

booked with this motel and arrived 10minutes later. great friendly staff (even coming to my room to turn the heat pump on for me). took one look at the room and couldn't believe how cheap it was. massive very clean room with a comfy bed! as a business traveller i spend most weeks staying in motels and i fully believe this is one of the best motels i have so far stayed in out of all of nz. i was very impressed

I was a solo traveler with plans for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing the next day. The reception staff was so friendly and helpful, booking my shuttle for the trip to the start of the Crossing, arranging for breakfast, and getting me oriented to the facility. My room was very clean and a great value for the money. There are great facilities for skiers, but of course I was there during the spring season and didn’t have use for them, but I would definitely recommend them for a stay in the area.

We based ourselves at Forgotten World Motel for 5 nights. We received a very friendly welcome from the staff and they were always helpful. When considering the reasonable rate we paid for the room, the motel represents good value for money. The room was comfortable, with all basic facilities supplied for a comfortable stay. We did not notice much noise from road traffic or other guests and we got a good sleep. A good thing about staying in this town is that it makes a great base for day trips to the ridiculously beautiful scenery in the neighbouring regions, such as the Forgotten World Highway, Waitomo and Central Plateau. We hope to return for more adventures!

After a long hot day driving, it was great to check-in quickly and relax in the garden area with a cool drink from the bar. The hotel has a pleasant rural outlook and our room was superb being over two floors with a very comfortable bedroom upstairs and lounge area below. A ten minute walk takes you to the town centre where there are numerous restaurants, bars and a supermarket. Unfortunately, during our stay we had two days of torrential rain so were rather limited in terms of National Park access but the owner did offer several suggestions for (dry) places to visit and offered a large selection of DVDs in need. Breakfast was of high quality and eagerly looked forward to! I would thoroughly recommend Tussock Grove to anybody looking to stay in the area.

The room was clean, new and comfortable. The hotel is located in a quiet area near the center. But better than the room itself was the woman who attended us. She booked us the bus for the Tongariro crossing and came at 7am to tell us that the bus had been cancelled because of bad weather. She was so dissapointed at this that she booked us for the next day (our check out day) and told us that, since she had no guests for that room, we could leave it after we came back from the crossing (around 6pm)! Being used to be kicked out from hotels at 10am (a unique custom of New Zealand hotels), this was unheard of and I really appreciated it. Altogether, this was probably the best hotel in New Zealand during our stay, and we have been in 10.

I've stayed here several times & go back because I know exactly what to expect. The units are always well presented... clean & tidy but there is only minimalistic kitchen facilities ... a microwave, toaster & electric jug. There is no sink but the proprietors do the dishes & leave the dinner set complete each day. Bathrooms are roomy with plenty of complimentary toiletries & loads of hot water. Restaurants are right next door... supermarket across the road & the heart of the city a block away. There's free wifi , parking at the door & it can occasionally be a bit noisy but that's what you get staying on a major thoroughfare. It's great value for money & I would stay again for sure.

Disclaimer : I give Staff 5 stars because actually I didn't meet any staffs there, but the check in and check out process was smooth (they have the machine outside for checking in and out), the room was clean, and my overall experience in Safari Motel was amazing! This motel is very complete, with spacious room & bathroom, a great hot water, internet connection and tv, and also they have the very complete kitchenette. It actually really helps when you are doing road trip (like we did), so we can buy food from supermarket and cook it there. The utensils and plates and bowls are also provided (and plenty of those)! And dont get me started with the location. AMAZING! It located in main street, very easy to find, and the surroundings was breathtaking.

we passed through taihape on the way to wellington staying only one night which was a shame because the hotel was lovely. it was a spacious room with a comfortable bed and a large bathroom. both were very clean. the service was great with the hotel manager organising access to our room even at 11.30pm at night and even left us milk for coffee the next morning. we will definitely stay again on our next trip to nz, this time for a few days.

We booked a private double room with ensuite bathroom. When we came into our room, there were no towels. When we asked about that at the reception, the answer was "We don't put towels in the room. Guests must ask for it.". Strange policy! The kitchen was big enough with everything you need. Unfortunatly, tea and coffee are not provided for free. Wifi is also not free. If you want to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, don't book the shuttle with them. Even if weather doesn't permit the crossing, they will bring you to the crossing. There is a better shuttle service at Whakapapa Village.
