Best hotels & accommodations in Shimane Prefecture

This is the best hotel I have stayed ever in Japan. The JR station is a 3- min walking distance. Restaurants locates nearby. I found bad smell on the first night in the room I stayed which was located in the pet-allowed floor. I asked to change room and the front desk assigned another room for me right away. The hotel provides noodle soup every night from 9:30 ~11:...

The best hotel I have stayed so far in Japan for years. Room is better and better than average rooms in Japan, friendly staffs, English friendly reception. Great onsen experiences. They even have 1 free beer for each guest from 19:00 to 21:00, good choice to have after a hot onsen. They also provide half-size Ramen from 21:30-23:30. Free coffee all the time from coffee...

Japanese hotel mattresses are not the best, but this hotel was comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was okay— a bit far from the train station, but there was a bust stop nearby, the bus either taking you directly to the station or to the Grand Shrine.

Although renovation was going on we felt very comfortable in our room. We couldn't open our windows for the first time on the trip and that was a bit claustrophobic. But room was spacious in Japanese hotel room terms. The restaurant was also being renovated so they had a breakfast in a meeting hall. The food was fair. 2nd time I have stayed at this hotel. Good value.

We had some significant dietary restrictions and the hotel went beyond the call to ensure that we were accommodated. One of our best meal experiences in Japan was dinner at this hotel. The one downside of our visit was that smoking and non-smoking rooms are not segregated so that our non-smoking room was at the end of the corridor and we had to walk by several smoking ...

Great 3-nights stay. The room is cleaned everyday, they also change the towels, glass, bathroom mat, and yukata (no need to bring your own pajamas!) daily. The staff are all nice, they speak English and you can store your luggage before check-in time. The tap water is drinkable and actually tastes good. The location is superb, Matsue Station (train/bus) is literally in...

I was a little skeptical about the place as I only went through the review after I booked the hotel. After staying at the place, I am glad to skip the reviews before I booked. The place was so new (Well, they looked very new to me) and clean it was way over value for the price they charged. It feels like a high end club house to me. The bed is very comfortable. The t...

i enjoyed my stay at this hotel. staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was japanese style but there was plenty to choose from, and there are many other restaurants and bars nearby. the room was small which is usual in many hotels, but very comfortable and the window could be opened to let in fresh air. it was good value price-wise.

Close to the convenience store just 1min by walk, Izumo-Shi station 5min by walk, Izumo Taisha 30min by bus. Staffs are very friendly. I booked 2 people but my partner couldn’t come with me, and then they gave me some discount. That was great experience, thanks a lot.

drive to this place, with sufficient free parking spaces. Front desk is very friendly, speaking little English. Japanese style room, with twin tatami beds. Toilet is detached from the Japanese style bath room, which has seat up space for stand up shower as well as hot spring at the bathtub. A clean and spacious room, and a sizable balcony facing Lake Shinji; breakfas...

We wanted to get off the beaten track in Japan, and this beautiful peninsula was perfect. My husband and I were there with our two year old, and had been worried about going to a traditional fancy ryokan and having our daughter cry and wake people or otherwise wreak havoc. This is not a fancy, onsen-style ryokan, but a family run operation., and the public areas are de...

My boyfriend and I stayed here one night during a week visit to Shimane, centered in Matsue city. The ryokan owner was friendly, funny, and helpful when we arrived. We communicated in Japanese, but English would have been fine as well. The ryokan is in a charming house across the street from a tenmangu shrine (which was nice to visit in the morning) and about a 10 minu...

Pro: excellent location for visiting the disused Silver Mine. The small hotel has spacious and tastefully furnished rooms. The cosy lounge is very welcoming. Strong environmental care. Village is in an idyllic environment. Dinner and breakfast were provided by a small restaurant opposite the hotel - an old samurai house also converted. Quality food is superb a...

Very nice environment if you like stay in country side , far from the city , enjoy the place made me feel peaceful Nice food , nice staff even their english was poor , but can felt they tried their best to serve us . share washroom & bathroom Pleasant stay Recommand to the traveller who drive be there

This was our first experience of a Japanese style hotel, and we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable - the hotel staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The hotel is within walking distance of Matsue castle and the surrounding attractions. We chose to have the western style breakfast, which was very well presented and more than adequate. Our e...

This place was one of my favorite hotels during my year in Japan. The rooms are massive; the onsen is luxurious and spacious; and the location is smack dab in the middle of Matsue. Everything is provided for here. I would have loved to have stayed longer than just one night if I knew how amazing it was. This place is amazing.

This was an interesting place, it was a forest style accommodation. all unit are independent like a chalet. It is good for a large group and must be driving. Without a car it is impossible to get to the place. It is a very nature place good view of the city from the chalet. Only problem is it cold and pretty during the night and there seems to be no heating facilities ...

This was our second time staying at this ryokan. When everything seems like it's filled up in Yonago or Matsue, this little gem is always available. The staff is super nice, and it's a little funny to see them fret over us (even when I speak Japanese to them). There is a traditional Japanese breakfast, in which I can't eat certain parts of, but the rest of it is pre...

This is a great hotel if you're on a budget. My boyfriend and I arrived too early for check-in, but the friendly staff member at the front desk took our bags. She even put them in our room for us for when we checked in later! The hotel is around 5 - 10 minutes from the main Matsue station. There is a convenient elevator on the side of the building, in addition to the m...

Open onsen for the ladies is beautiful. But for the men is fair only. Especially the privacy is not enough. On the right hand side is the wall, there is crack in the wall and you can see the car park clearly. I think the people can also see me too. The dinner is delicious and more than expected. Overall is good for the hotel.

I stayed at Cocoreto Daikon Island for 2 nights. The moment I stepped into this hostel, it was playing classic music and the house was filled with a pleasant aroma. Public area is spacious and the decoration and design made me feel like home. The best part of this house is its huge glass window (From ceiling to floor), which looked at the grass view outside. The wh...

Very close to the station (2mins). Good for short stay. Tiny entrance on ground level. Reception is on first floor. When lift door opens, was greeted by a middle-aged strong man in a suit at the reception on the other end of the building (same guy I pass by every time till checkout). || Got a smoking room but you small smoke in lifts and hallway and strong smell in roo...

Great hotel and could not be closer to station. This hotel also focuses on eco/CO2 aspect., which includes organic items, as well as trying to reduce the carbon footprint. The breakfast is great as well, and all of that for a very reasonable price.

I had a real Japanese Tatami room, with low tables and Japanese chairs to sit low, close to the Tatami surface. Hotel ist very quiet. The staff polite, helpful and welcoming. The nearby village consists of Japanese houses with typical black roof tiles. Very suggestive roof landscape. In vicinity is the town Hamada and, e few kilometres away by local train or road an Aq...

Located about 10-15 mins walk from Izumoshi Station, but easy to find as it's just along the road. The road from the Station to the hotel is smooth and flat so it's easy to get to the hotel even with a big luggage. The room is very spacious and clean. Bed is extremely comfortable and looks new. They also have public baths and small outdoor onsen where guests can enjoy...

I stumbled upon an article about Mihonoseki and decided to book Ryokan Fukumakan for a little escape from the city. It turned out to be a very memorable experience. The owner, Fukuma-san was kind enough to greet us at the JR Sakaiminato Station and drove us to the ryokan. Our room is a sea view room on the top floor. We were very pleased with the room as it offers a tr...

Toyoko Inn has free breakfast for guests, this one is slightly better than average Toyoko Inn. For this Toyoko Inn, do not like the policy that guests has to return the keys when leaving the hotel temporarily, and the room needs to be cleared at 1000 hrs.

Pros: -good value for money. Booked twin room, larger than average room size -great breakfast, good variety of choices including local food -clean room -plenty of carpark space, not limit in entry and exit the carpark each day -quite near Matsue JR Station, 5 mins walk Cons: - no public bathroom (stated clearly in the hotel description) - carpark is slightly difficul...

I have stayed in this hotel a couple of times when visiting Shimane prefecture. The rooms are small like all business hotels in Japan but well equipped and laid out. An large bath is available. It's location is very convenient to the train and bus station and there are many restaurants in the neighborhood. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Great location and wonderful staff. The meals were excellent and they have a natural hot spring onsen on site. The hotel is right next door to Adachi Garden and Museum. An ideal arrangement is to take the museum's free shuttle bus from Yasughi JR train station in the afternoon, have dinner and a bath at the hotel and go to the museum first thing in the morning before ...

I travel extensively in Japan and discovered my very best meals at the Saginoyusou. My stay was equally delightful, given the extraordinary service of all of the staff. My room was quite large. The inn is in a serene area just a few km south of town, adjacent to the Adachi museum. My stay, and two dinners in particular, were a real highlight of my extended trip in ...

Altough more expensive than the hotel in town, the traditional room with all the available things (massage armchairs, foot and shoulder massage; manga books, prospects) is a better option. With the halfboard option, I could taste the local foods and it was great and plenty.

Pro: good location on side of lake Shinji. Easy to find. Close to Matsue Castle. Spacious open air car park. Room is good size. Facilities are good and clean. Staff are courteous and helpful. Con: we did not get a lake side room. Buffet breakfast (Japanese) is good but less than other hotels of similar price class.
