Superb”

One of a few good accommodation options for indipendent travelers, if not the best. The location is the best for any trip around island. Again - I see it by eye of independent traveler: clean and safe room, good breakfast, very good dinner, possibility to hire car (Jimmy), plenty of mototaxi to take you anywhere. Actually the Residencial Mira Rio is a hub for other people, guides, etc... We enjoyed river and nature views from teracce and we think that was the best choice we could make. If you are looking for luxury - pick some of upscale resorts around the Principe. Mira Rio is reasonable budget friendly (considering Principe high prices for everyting). Laslt but not the least: the personnel is very nice and helpful and organizes a complimentary (free) airport pick-up and drop-off!
The water is running only with electricity. Power went down both nights we stayed at accommodation. So during night - no water, no shower, no toilet flush. Of course - one has to expect this as the island has limited power supply. So not big deal if you expect that.

We had a very nice stay at Mira Rio, right in the heart of Santo Antonio - the main city of Principe. It's a good location as a starting point to explore different sides of the island; and you can get a feeling of the daily life in the city. The rooms are basic and clean. The breakfast is great, and you can order lunch and dinner at the bar (like everywhere on the island, fresh fish is available). The staff is friendly and helpful, and they can assist you with booking activities, guides, transportation, etc. We also got free transfer from and to the airport.

Popular location in Santo Antonio”

Location in Santo Antonio town. On a street off the canal, in the city close to the supermarket and city square. Easy to find. Very popular spot in the morning I can see other business people come from around to have their morning coffee and breakfast. In the evenings they come to have a drink. Nice friendly atmosphere, mix of travellers and locals. We hired a 4x4 for the 4 days we were there, he even took us personally to fill the petrol and pump the tyres for air. Friendly, relaxed and helpful staff. I liked that we could buy cold drinks from the bar anytime or snacks. There was a mini fridge in the room to keep our drinks and water chilled. great air conditioning, hot water and wifi. Power in the town cuts off from midnight and turns back on again at 7am. We enjoyed the yummy breakfast of delicious bread, eggs, coffee, fresh juice and fruits.

The terrace with bar/restaurant and nice views. Convenient location. Nice place to meet expats and other travelers. Good breakfast. Nice staff, and one can even speak English.
That some local hustlers got access. Drain smelling in the bathroom and bathroom door cannot be closed (needs some maintenance). Staff didn’t inform about the town’s nightly power cut (2200-0700) which also affect the water. No 24h front desk as described (rather until 2100). Tours and car rental organized by one of the local guides (via the hotel) was substandard, overpriced and more or less scams (sample attempts; €220 for boat trip around Príncipe (typically rate €120-140), filthy car and completely wreck w/empty tank €50/day). None of the guides speaks English.

We were sent to a different hotel, so I could only judge their restaurant services, which were good.
We were not picked up at the airport as agreed (had to pay 10€ for transfer). Once we arrived at the hotel, we were told there was a problem (unspecified) and were sent to another hotel across the street, which was OK (although in a very noisy street),, having to pay the exact same amount as the original (plus the transfer). Not a great experience, considering the objectively overpricing of rooms in the capital.

A magical visit with great accommodation at the Mira Rio. I will definitely return.”

A delicious breakfast, with a choice of fruits and cooked omelettes (which were superb). The nice bar is a real hub and it was great to meet new contacts. The electricity cuts are at fixed times and only during the night, so you plan for that. The views are stunning beyond words, as are the birds and flowers/fauna. Also the street dogs are very friendly and are looked after.

El desayuno está muy bien. Fruta, zumo, café, pan y huevos. La localización perfecta, al lado de la plaza central de la ciudad de Santo Antonio. Hay cerca tiendas, supermercado, restaurantes...un lugar muy tranquilo. Es un hotel humilde, que en España costaría menos y se consideraría pensión, pero teniendo en cuenta además el precio de los demás alojamientos de la isla (totalmente fuera de lugar e injustificables), este me parece totalmente correcto. El dueño es una persona muy agradable, que te ayuda en todo. Nos ayudó también a alquilar el coche, a cambiarlo, a elegir sitios a los que ir a pasear...
El único pero que le pondría al hotel es que es un poco pequeño el baño, pero no es razón para no recomendar 100 % el hotel!

Alquilamos coche (viejo) con ellos y nos lo dieron casi sin combustible, sin avisar que en la isla no había combustible y que lo teníamos que conseguir de forma "pirata" y muy caro. Tienes la sensación constante de que quieren sacarte dinero por todas partes. El alojamiento es caro, bastante caro.
