Exceptional”

Location is perfect. Next to the train station. If you drive, do note hotel guests do not have to pay for parking when parked in the compound. We were told to pay for parking before our check in but during our check in another staff told us we didn't have to do that. Parking is limited though. There is another parking nearby in case hotel parking lots are filled.

Exceeded our expectations ”

Based on the previous reviews, we weren't sure about what to expect. Lovely old style hotel. Has a character. It was like time travelling. Breakfast was very nice and staff was very friendly (especially Mr Ismail! Thank you:) ) some reviews said the rooms were noisy (street noise and seagulls) but ours was fine! Thick curtains helped. Very good value for money

Scotland”

The hotel beds were good. The floor as to be expected in a place this old were sloped, but I loved the old fashioned keys and layout. We stayed on the third floor, which kept the noise from upstairs guest away, but the ceilings were sloped, one of our rooms had the slope over the tub/shower combo and made showering at 6' 3" challenging. So you might want to stay on the first or second floor. We loved that it had a restaurant/bar. We enjoyed playing chess and cards on the chess tables in that lobby while having a beer at night. The hotel is right down town, next to the train station, the noise from the train was barely noticeable, there were no night time trains or super early ones. The seagulls were noisier then the trains. Some outside noise was expected because of the age of the hotel/windows. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they printed my travel documents for me and they also doubled as severs after the bar and coffee area's are closed.

We held a funeral tea ”

Most of the family and friends attending had to travel some distance so also stayed. We loved the history of this building. The high ceilings; warm rooms and the staff interest in the history of the building also. Staff were friendly and attentive. A small problem over breakfast was speedily and satisfactorily resolved. The spacious reception hall is a beautiful place to sit and chat. A memorable stay even though the occasion was sad
