A wonderful and memorable stay! THANK YOU!”

It was about 10 mins walking from the JR station, and very close to all the popular site seeing places. I've been travelled a lot in Japan, and the service this ryokan provided was so impressive, really one of the best choices on my list. when we first arrived the ryokan, I was impressed by their warm welcome, and my little 5 year old kid was much engaged with the cartoon slippers, the staff speaks good English there. The room was very clean and quiet, the public hot spring was nice too, just hope it can be accessible earlier than 4pm. The Japanese breakfast was very delicious. Upon departure, I was grateful for the farewell gift they prepared for each of us, very personalized gift which gave a perfect ending to our stay there. Highly recommend you if you plan to travel to Takayama! and i'll definitely go back and stay there again next year!

Exceptional service and a very unique place to experience ”

Everything was just about perfect. All of the quirkiness you want from a local Japanese guest house. The dining was wonderful, make sure you book a dinner - all 19 dishes were amazing. Room 201 was huge and could cater for a family of 4 easily. The staff simply couldn’t do enough for you and the location is perfect for exploring Takayama and beyond.

Great ryokan in Takayama”

We loved Takayama - a charming town with amazing food (especially beef!). Ryokan Asunaro is in a very convenient location, about 5 minutes walking distance from the bus/train station and about 7-10 minutes to the main tourist areas. Highly recommend it.

Great Staff”

We do have a little problem locating the ryokan. Every time we go back to the ryokan, we need to depend on the google map. However, it is within walking distance to the surrounding attractions, food, train and bus station. When first check-in, the staff gives personal attention and introduce us to the facilities, house rules. We also placed order for Hida Beef, Sashimi set dinner prior to our arrival with the hotel. Though the price seems expensive, but it is worth the freshness, details in presentation, attention by the service staff, and the many varieties of food served one after another. It is really a traditional Japanese meal. They day of our check-out, there is heavy snow, and the boss actually sent us to the bus station himself, we really appreciate the kindness. I would highly recommend this ryokan to those visiting Takayama.

Authentic Japanese Ryokan experience”

We were a group of 6 keen to visit Takayama and have a traditional Japanese Inn experience. We booked the family room with two western beds and 4 futon beds on tatami floor. We loved the Onsen experience and breakfast in the dining room, wearing our Yukata given to us to use during our stay. The staff were very friendly and everything spotless and clean. Complimentary drinks and snacks in our room was a nice touch. Beautiful authentic interior reception area with lots of interesting local draft to view/purchase. We felt the overall price was on the high side, but worth it for the authentic Japanese experience. Thank you for making our stay in Takayama so special.

Very enjoyable stay at Ryokan Asunaro. Staff and owners were very nice, warmly greeting us at check-in/out and whenever we ventured out and returned. The lobby area is beautiful, rooms comfortable and the onsen so relaxing. We chose to walk from the station. I would recommend that you take the side streets as the streets with stop lights were busy with cars and the walking area was narrow and (in February) sometimes covered in snow. Did not have dinner but our 2 breakfasts were delicious and a feast for the eyes.

Great traditional Japanese experience!! Great for honey moon”

This was one of the best Ryokan we stayed it in all of Japan. I traveled for 21 days in Japan and I found this one to be the most authentic. Its a 5 min walk from the takayama train station and its a beautiful authentic Japanese Building. Room has all the modern amenities, but the traditional Japanese style of decor and furniture. It was a great experience for me and my wife while traveling on our honey moon. The only draw backs would be that it has very slow WiFi and you have to book meals at the hotel restaurant in advance.

Live like a traditional Japanese!”

Ryukan Asunaro was one of our best experiences during our Japan trip. The staff was so polite and informative about the rules around the hotel (these rules weren't the imposing kinds trust me) Every detail about this traditional Inn made you feel and live like a local Japanese - such as, taking off your shoes at the entrance of the Inn, eating your dinner wearing kimonos provided by the hotel, having green tea in the lobby around a charcoal fireplace. They also have their own onsen (Japanese bath) which should not be missed! iOne thing to bear in mind is that they have rooms with private bath and rooms with a shared bath, so book accordingly as per your preference. Overall, if you are looking to experience traditional Japanese home living then this place should be your mandatory choice! The location is also really close to the station (just 10 mins walk) and the central market area is also about the same distance from the inn. Thank you Asunaro for an excellent experience.

The ryokan was just so beautiful, clean and had any & all amenities that one would need and more. The bath area was like a small high end spa. I never stayed at a ryokan and the whole experience including the town of Takayama is one I will never forget. The train ride from Tokyo through the Japanese alps was spectacular.

From the moment you reach to the gate, you can already tell their staffs have put a lot thoughts behind everything. The rooms are nice and large. Onsen is clean and well maintained.
