One of the best Ryokan's in Japan ”
In this sleepy town of Takayama, the Hidatei hanaougi shined like a star. Our family stayed in three Ryokans, this one was by far the best. First, they offer door to door service. They will pick you up from the Takayama station and take you back. The moment you arrive you are transported back to the Edo period of Japan, where service and respect are paramount. The ryokan assigns a personal assistant, a young Japanese woman in a kimono, who looks after you during your stay. The ryokan upgraded our room at no additional charge. The kaseiki dinner is amazing. Hida beef is one of the best beefs in the world. The communal baths are large with natural mineral spring water. The service is excellent. Ryokans are expensive. Hidatei provides a nice stay.

Perfectly wonderful..”
Rooms were large and lovely with so many little snacks always available.. The meals were AMAZING and very traditionally Japanese, but the highlight for sure was the in room onsen spa.. I sat in the spa, with steam billowing around me, drinking my green tea and watched the sun rise from my balcony for my 30th birthday, THEN it started snowing.. Was truly magical.. In the day, (after breakfast) we took the shuttle bus into town which was beautiful and old with many sites, great shopping and people.. Our serving girl back at the Ryokan was perfect, and spoke english fluently.. If you want to experience a Ryokan in a beautiful town, Hidatei Hanaougi is a great choice! Dai Suki desu!!

A perfect onsen Ryokan”
We booked it after reading the review. Even we were expecting good service and food, still we were truly impressed how the stuff in this ryokan could ensure all details were perfectly planned. Before our arrival we received email from ryokan and asked our preference of breakfast or if we had any food allergy. Upon arrival, we took the free shuttle from the JR Takayama station to the ryokan. We were greeted by 達也さん who spoke English fluently. The room was spacious and cosy. There were also bathtub in the room but we preferred the public onsen bath. The outdoor onsen was simply amazing, we were able to enjoy the warmth and the snow at the same time. Not to mention the meals with Hida beef were excellent! Everything in this hotel worth every penny you spend! We will definitely return! Highly recommended!

We Love our stay at Hidatei Hanaougi. We stayed at the room with private onsen. The service was top notch! No complaints at all. The breakfast & kaiseki dinner was so good. The room was clean and comfy. Everything was so perfect !

Strong 1st impression that it doesn't quite live up to”
The lobby and greeting is a pretty stong opening at this large ryokan. The staff is top notch, just like you'd expect at a ryokan. But this is a big ryokan/hotel, and the rooms feel like they're aging a bit and the rest of the experience (outside of the staff attention) can feel a bit impersonal. This is not a small ryokan experience. The property is a bit out of the center of Takayama, but the shuttle to and from the train station is very convenient.

Peaceful retreat in Takayama”
I was very impressed with the whole experience. Everyone is very professional and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The town of Takayama with the morning market and old town is nearby (within a short 15 minute walk or there is a free shuttle if needed). The rooms are spacious, and ours included a small sofa which was handy as this was a traditional Japanese room with futon instead of a bed. The food was excellent and the server did a wonderful job of explaining everything to us and making sure we had a good time. We did not use the hot sping facilities, but they looked nice of one is interested. I highly recommend a stay here.

Warmest service and nice open onsen”
Even tho the location is 15 mins away from bus centre/JR of Takayama, but the shuttle bus service is well served for your check in/out. The room host lady is pleasant and nice, she did her best to communicate with us by English with her body language. Our room is a standard japanese style with semi open private onsen. Everything is perfect. Food is averagely good with Hida beef as we all expected.

High class ryokan worthy of 5 stars”
Excellent butler and porter services. Beds are comfortable, toilet and bathroom amenities are excellent. Onsens are kept clean and tidy. Parking lots aplenty. Conveniently located for a 45 min drive to shirakawa-go. Frequent hotel shuttle bus provided to Takayama old town.

Good foods helpful staffs ”
This Ryokan is not near station n old town . But they have shuttle bus send the guests to trian station n market very often. Therefore it is very convenient for the guests. It is a polite gesture for the some staffs standing outside to send off the guests when the guests are leaving. Will recommend my friends to stay this wonderful ryokan!

If you are considering ryokan in the 200 range vs this one, take this. The beef kaiseki for dinner is easily worth 200 and the attention to detail paid by the staff is extraordinary. From the moment you step into the ryokan, you are well taken care of by the staff.

The staff were wonderful and very accommodating. We loved the dinner and breakfast that was included in the room price. It was lovely to enjoy a traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner. We were also very spoilt with the amazing view outside our private dining room. We can't wait to go back here.

The staff there was excellent. Very accommodating. The breakfast isn't too delicious but the kaiseki dinner was huge and amazing - unfortunately we were sick on our second night so quite a chunk of hida beef went to waste. The bed on tatami is not too comfortable (we are not used to it) and the hotel feel a bit stuffy perhaps because its old - for example, in the elevator you can smell a bit of the oil. The onsen was nice though and has a natural hot spring water - you can feel it in your skin. Shuttle bus provided and taxi to town is not too expensive either. Great stay but for the price we paid we expected a nicer room.

i will consider this hotel as a premium one as the price is not cheap. but surprisingly it situated in nowhere with the closest family mart take 15 mins walking. there is no landscape around the hotel so don't xpect you have a great view even you spent much on a private onsen room. the room is a bit wear out. but service, onsen quality & good are unbeatable.
