Everything about this hotel was perfect! We were a group of 6including 2 young children. We had a great time enjoying the Japanese dinner and breakfast accompanied by the amazingly friendly yet meticulous staff. The rooms were clean and spacious. On top of all that, views from the rooms and the onsen were simply out of this world!

Exquisite Ryokan”

Excellent service, the onsen, the food

The room was like staying in a spacious Japanese house. It had a bedroom/living room, a sitting room with a view of Lake Ashi, separate toilet, bath/shower/washroom, separate powder room, extra bathroom sink. The staff were willing to please and went above and beyond. The onsen temperature was just right and often empty, so I had the place to myself. If you enjoy traditional Japanese food (Kaiseki style)you've come to the right place. The food wasn't brought to your room, but we were sent to the second floor tatami dining room, which was actually a good idea. While we were enjoying supper, the staff set out the futons so that when we returned the room was all set for a good night's sleep. The location is out of the way, far from town, so it's quiet and very dark at night (Check out the stars!)--perfect for relaxation and relieving stress. During the day, we walked to the ferry port, just next door, and crossed the lake to town, where you can find places to eat, or buy groceries, visit shrines (not to mention a tour of the lake). Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate so we couldn't take the rope-way (cable car) up the mountain, but the Fall colors had come down so we didn't have to go to a higher elevation. Ryuguden Ryokan was a perfect antidote for our stress-filled lives. It may not be for everyone since it's out of the way, but if you plan to get away from it all and commune with nature, while receiving impeccable service, you've found the place.
