Excellent service, friendly staff, featured rooms”
We stayed at shinsan for one night and was deeply impressed by the excellent service and hospitality of the staff there. They picked us up at the Takachiho bus station and also drove me to the Takachiho train station on the next day. The dinner and breakfast were delicious in a Japanese style private dining room. The price was in line with the superb service and experience which you can enjoy in the hotel.

As traditional as it can get”
The moment we arrived at Ryokan Shinsen we were treated with the highest level of attention, something you can only find in a Japanese Ryokan. This was the most traditional experience we had during our three weeks in Japan and it was a great one. The service was outstanding (I had a cold and when we asked them directions to a drug store they dropped everything to drive us there and back and helped us translating. The next morning the first thing they asked was how my head was). Dinner was yummy and breakfast was full on Japanese, including Natto (if you don't know what it is, don't try it!). There are beautiful Japanese gardens surrounding the Ryokan. The only negative thing was the smell of humidity in the room but apart from that a wonderful stay!

Stop off for the gorge! ”
We stayed 1 night in their cheapest room $700 just to be close to the gorge when traveling through. Great outdoor bath and breakfast and dinner were good with grilled streak for dinner. Gorge was fantastic but everyone who stays in the town goes to the shrine for a dance after dinner. This was really boring and not worth your time. Just stay at the hotel that you paid so much money for.!!

Excellent Traditional Japanese Cultural Experience”
If you want to have a taste of traditional Japanese cultural, here is the place you have to go. From the room you are going to stay, to the food that you are going to eat, the staffs who will be serving you, you are just like a time traveler back to the old Japanese times. There is no WiFi in the room, nor the Internet connection. But that's not necessary, Internet had never been being invented yet!

寒かった”
お料理もお部屋も素晴らしかった。 夕食は部屋食ではないと聞いていましたが、一度外に出て別棟とは説明がなく、ほんの１分程度ですが寒かったです。 お風呂上がりの浴衣姿ではきついのでは？ 一言説明するだけでいいのに。 食後もひとりで勝手に部屋に帰れ、という感じでした。 以前は担当の方にチップを渡すと、一度は固辞していましたが、今はそれが無いので時代が変わったなぁと思っていましたが、チップは上の方に報告するからなんですね。 由布院でも田沢湖でも同じ対応でしたから。

お部屋とは別のお部屋にての夕食、朝食でしたが、それぞれのお部屋の調度品も素晴らしく入ってきた時からテンションが上がりました。お料理の食材についても色々地元に関するお話と併せて伺うことが出来、高千穂が憧れだったので、とても興味深くお食事を楽しむことができました。高千穂牛の販売店も教えて頂き、家族によいお土産が出来ました。ロケーションも高千穂神社や高千穂峡へのアクセスも良く、楽しみにしていた夜神楽も前後車での送迎をして頂き、お座布団と履き物入れセットまでご用意頂きまして、安心してお神楽を鑑賞出来ました。帰り際雨が降っていたのに、傘もささずに最後までお見送り頂きまして大変恐縮しました。お陰様でとても充実した高千穂の旅になりました、有難うございました、また機会がありましたらお世話になりたいと思います。

本館に宿泊しました。お部屋はとても清潔で広々としていて、使い勝手も良かったです。海外サイトからの予約で、詳細がよくわかっていなかったのですが、夕食は部屋食でした。夕食後、色浴衣をお借りして夜神楽を見に行きましたが、着付けもササっとやってくださいますし、送り迎えもあります。朝食は一階で、ということでしたが、個室で、とてものんびりいただくことができました。夕食も朝食も、薄味だけどしっかり出汁や素材の味がきいていて、非常に美味しかったです。ハードもソフトも文句のつけようがありません。是非また訪ずれたいです。
