Ryokans with smoking area in Shinjuku

"We prefer to stay in Ginza when it Tokyo, but we wanted to experience the vibe in Shinjuku so we booked a night here at Keio Plaza. If you are decided about staying in Shinjuku, this is a great option. Service was great. We ran into a bit of inconvenience when there was suddenly no water coming from the faucet just as my husband and I were getting ready for bed (close to midnight). The hotel staff was responsive. Ultimately, they could not fix the problem and we had to move to another room. It was not the best experience, but the staff was attentive and apologetic -- and the when we checked out, the manager was there to offer his apologies and handed us with a special token. We appreciated this -- because not everything will go perfectly all the time, but how the staff responds to the situation is what makes all the difference. If you like cocktails, make sure to try Brilliant, a wonderful bar right inside the hotel. They make excellent and reasonably priced cocktails."

"The staff is lovely. This is certainly the place's best point, as we spent hours chatting with Shinji and Kana, who also took me out for dinner and organized another one at the ryokan. The bath is nice too. The rooms are small and open at the top so if you have noisy travelers next to you, you'll hear them. There were chinese guests who were loud during the last 2 nights. As I stayed 4 nights the price was good for that though. I did have a great experience overall, and the location is excellent: in a calm residential neighborhood, close to the station and on a train and metro line that goes straight to Shinjuku, Tokyo station, Akihabara, ikebukuro... Recommended if you don't mind sharing the shower, etc. with other guests."
