Perched high on the hillside this spacious stone room with its colourful cane decoration and traditional lighting was a very pleasant and comfortable place to retire to. It had a modern bathroom, full AC and a balcony. There is some construction work going on from early morning but did not impact our stay. Inclusive dinner was generous and enjoyable whilst breakfast was a little basic and catered for western tastes. A traditional one would have been nicer. Surrounding area is spectacular and easy place to base yourself for walks and drives.

We stayed here as a young family for 3 days. To clear the myth about the previous reviews requiring a 4*4 vehicle. No, this accessible by a normal car. there is a some 10-15kms of rough road but it is flattened out. December / Jan is really cold. Temperatures drop down to 3-4C. The location of the hotel is very close to the balcony walk hike route and has many super scenic view points near by. Food is basic to average ,understandably so due to the location of this resort. Please note there are no grocery shops or any amenities at the top pf jebel shams, anything you need is a drive back to al hamra which is a 1.5hr drive back and forth hence plan well. Areas to cover include balcony walk hike, misfat al abreen W9 hike route and some wonderful omani cuisine.

Some entertainment system was not working, T.V, and they could not fix it ”
No BBQ facilities, no seating outside the tents, door of the tent does not close properly. no sport GEM. or even playground or courts, for tennis, or badminton No WIFI, although it stated in net there is free WIFI. the camp needs more life.

Dinner and Breakfast was not very excellent. The tent's toilet should be improved. But the view, staffs, the weather, and the mood were great. We did camp fire in front of our tent under the stars. very quiet place. you can buy firewood from the reception 5 RO.

Attitude of the Reception Staff needs to be changed.”
Booked a standard room, as there was no other option as this was the only category showing in the site. Location is easily accessible and good. Made a late check in around 5.00 p.m. Check in was fast. Standard room was just a basic room. Furniture I found only a cot. No chair, no table etc. Tea/coffee amenities are not provided in the room. Hot water is supplied 24 hours. Bed was not that comfy. Regarding the standard room for family with kids I would suggest not to opt this room, I would suggest to opt from Mountain view room or above that, as Its very comfortable and I have stayed before in Mountain view room. Dinner was very good and breakfast was very very disappointing. Staff in the restaurant was very good specially the Malayalee (forgot his name). Tea and coffee are served in the restaurant all the time. Attitude of the reception staff was very bad. They should treat the customer in a friendly manner and with a smiling face, which was not happened.

It was very cold weather and there were no warmers inside the room, only the heating system by the split unit. It will be good if there are warmers as what was in the reception and restaurant

The rooms where good. Peaceful and all spots nearby and very good weather. but, Dinner and breakfast menu was not good for me and taste too. Rooms did not have a kettle or tea or coffee set up. even the complimentary bottle water is the smallest you can find. Its a good setup, still not worth the amount paid.

Fantastic resort in the heart of the mountains”
This place is in a stunning location, at the foot of Jebel Shams and near by the Grand Canyon. The rooms are spacious and for the adventurous traveller have just what you need: a good heater, comfortable bed and enough hot water - though I couldn't get the TV to work and there was not enough wifi/ internet capacity to get a signal in the room. The buffet dinner and breakfast included in the package had ample tasty food. I did the Balcony Walk in the late afternoon. The trail head is only about 15 minutes drive away along the ridge. It a stunning hike of about 2 hours and you only need to to be moderately fit. The hike to the south summit of Jebel Shams is another thing altogether, it is a long tough day. Start out at 6:30 (if you ask the night before the kitchen will give you a packed lunch); it will likely take about four and half to five and a half hours to cover the eight and half kilometres and gain the 1000 meters necessary to reach the top.

Sama Heights Resort is a very nice place for a stay in Jebel Akhdar. Only one disadvantage: they say they are an "eco-friendly" resort, but they offer small plastic bottles with water. The plastic bottles can be found all over the mountains when hiking in Jebel Akhdar. Please think about a more eco-friendly option e.g. as water to refill in reusable bottles the guests have to bring theirselves.

Very well located for hiking and relaxing at Jebel Shams on an elevation of about 2000m. We’ve stayed 2 nights at a bungalow. Breakfast and Dinner is included. You have no choice to go anywhere else, because this area is very far from everything except nature. Both breakfast and dinner is served as buffet, with Softdrinks and coffee / team included. Guided tours can be booked. We did the sunset tour, only the guide we both with our daughter. Paid 5 per adult, nothing for our 11 year old. The young and friendly guide took us to a sunset spot we wouldn’t have found alone. Beautiful! He served traditional tea and we enjoyed the great scenery. The bungalow is simple but enough for short stays, but attention, the size in the description is wrong! It says 74 square meter. The room including toilet is around 24 m2. Even counting the terasse sums up to around 60 m2. Room was clean, bathroom simple. Attention. The last 10 km are rough and steep road, where you need a 4WD!
