Memorable comfort in a natural setting”
Sankara would be an exceptional "find" anywhere in the world. We stayed for four nights in October 2012. This was our 25th trip to Japan but our first to Yakushima. Our butler met us at the airport and drove us to the resort for a welcome drink and a package of maps and island information. Each villa has two floors and we were on the first floor. It was total comfort--from the beds to the marble bathroom. It looked just like the photos on the website. Breakfast and dinner were included in the villa price. Each breakfast offered a nice buffet selection and eggs made to order. Dinners are set course menus starting with tiny servings of delicious soups and other appetizers, followed by fish and meat courses and dessert. On our fourth night, we paid an extra fee to eat in the upstairs dining room where meals are prepared by a French-trained chef and his staff working in an open kitchen. Each party had different place settings and received totally different multi-course set meals. You get a printed menu with your personal meal. Our dinner was just exquisite. We were able to rent a car right at the hotel each day and pay by the hour, which was very convenient. Our butler helped us choose hiking routes, and when I asked where to buy nontouristy works of sugi wood like those displayed in the hotel, he made an appointment for us to visit a local craftsman. After two days of hiking I tried a "Thai traditional massage" in the hotel spa, which is another beautifully refined part of the Sankara property. Overall, our experience was just great.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sankara Hotel, it is in a stunning area on Yakushima Island, there is a free shuttle service operated by the hotel from the ferry port of Anbo and the airport. The staff were extremely helpful in every way. We would definitely recommend it to others.

雰囲気は抜群です。とても異国のホテルかのようで、よかったです。ただ、金額は高額なため、スタッフ様の対応など素晴らしいところもあり、丁寧な対応をしてくださる方には満足でした。ご飯もとてもおいしかったです。 ただ、ある女性スタッフの方の対応が、とても残念で、お土産に買おうとした人気のお菓子を買えるかどうか質問したら、『準備できるかお約束はできない。それは前日までに基本予約するものです』と、しきりに、お約束できないという感じで、 こちらは『すみません、わかっていなくて。もし準備できたら、ありがたいので、可能なものでご用意できませんか？』と、きいたら、 また、嫌そうな顔で、早口で商品説明をされ、 なにをいってるかわからなかったので、質問を再度できる雰囲気でなく、怖かったです。 最終的には、用意はしてもらえたのはありがたかったですが、とても怖かったです。 その女性スタッフが怖かったので、できれば避けたかったのですが、その人しかお願いできる人がいなかったので、 記念の写真撮影をお願いしようとしたら、『これは、逆光で顔がまっくらですけど、よろしいでしょうか？』と言われて、記念の撮影も怖かったので、本当はとってほしかったところで撮るのを諦めたりし、金額に見合わない、なんとも後味の悪いホテルステイで悲しくなりました。

部屋はスタンダードタイプだったけど、充分広くて気持ちよかったです。 朝食のパンの種類がたくさんあり、どれも美味しかった。地元の食材を使ったディナーやお酒も楽しめました。 ひとり旅で来ましたが、スタッフの方が親切にしてくださり、安心して過ごせました。 スパもリラックスできたし、満足の旅になりました。また、リピートしたいです。

サウナが大好きな彼と行きました。3月初旬という時期でサウナはもちろんプールも貸切状態で水風呂として使用でき、とても贅沢な時間を過ごす事ができ彼も喜んでくれました。彼の誕生日のサプライズも演出していただき本当にありがとうございました！ 何よりスタッフの方々の丁寧な対応に感動致しました。また是非来たいと思いますし、わたしの大切な友人達にもこのホテルを紹介したいと思います。
