VERY REASONABLE PRICE IF YOU BOOK EARLY”
Good. We'll except for the few things -- The elevators are such a pain in the arse. Almost always full. Good thing our rooms are on the 3rd floor, so we can easily access the stairs. The "manager" during our 8 days stay there was quite difficult to deal with. well at least at first. They wouldn't let us exchange/barter booked days in the hotel, they end up offering us lower rates but we've already decided and booked for a different hostel of the same floor for a cheaper price than their first offer. So we checked out for one night and came back for the rest of the booked dates. Some of the blankets and towels are stained. During our last night there was a leaking (of a yellowish material. God knows what that was.) on the ceiling and they transfered us to a different room. The "free" bottled waters in the fridge are actually refilled with tap water. So yeah, just so you know. Good Points -- Booked the family room and surprisingly it's just adequate for 4 adults. though the sizes of the bathrooms defer per room. Super clean (maybe the cleanest in Chungking Mansion) or maybe just because it's newly refurbished. To the cleaning guys, please maintain the cleanliness and newness. There's a microwave, fridge, flat iron, electric pot (water heater) and free coffee for everyone. Location A++ Just across Tsim Sha Tsui station, few minutes walk form Ave of stars and Harbour City and a few minutes ride away from Kowloon Ferry Terminal. There' a bus stop from and to the airport a few meters just across the street.

Small but worth it. ”
We have stayed with the Canadian or Shanghai hostel the past three times in Hong Kong. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable. And there is always great Indian food just an elevator ride away.

Worth it for travelling with tight budget”
The place was really clean and the owner is really nice.. our problem only the space of room..it's really tiny but overall okay. I'll recommend this place if you're travelling with tight budget. The location is really great and you can explore Hongkong with the easiest way, travelling with MTR because it's really near Tsim Sam Tsui and East Tsim Sam Tsui station

Clean basic needs but no WiFi”
Stayed only 1 night having stayed at Canada Hotel in the same building the previous 3 nights due to my error in booking with Canada, they were unable to accommodate me for 1 more night. Typical of Chungking accommodation, you get what you pay for in terms of room size. When we got to the address, Block E, 5th floor, we were greeted with a sign to go down to the 3rd floor where 2 Indian gentlemen confirmed the booking, one of them escorted us to a room in Block C, 3rd floor, apparently a new extension of their business. Rooms were newly renovated, clean but no WiFi, none of the staff were around but there was a fridge, microwave and hot water, free coffee too. Hot water was good as was the A.C. and the mattress ok but the pillows were useless, com'on guys, get some proper pillows! There was a little sort of rooftop area that was accessible to all rooms that gave you a unique perspective of Hong Kong and could be such a nice out door sitting area if it was developed, anyway helped with easing the claustrophobic feelings you get in such small rooms. Overall a good stay although the staff were fairly businesslike and did not match in warmth and hospitality with other places that I've stayed at in HK, this is my 6th time in HK btw.

Close to Victoria Harbour”
While the room was small, it was clean and they offered to clean it several times during our stay. The location is ideal as you are extremely close to the harbour and TST MTR. FYI, there are several elevators on the 1st floor. Make sure to head to the rear elevator and look for signs for Shanghai Hostel. Check in is NOT on the 1st floor.

Don't expect too much”
This is the first time I've been to HK. After spending one nightvat Cordis I moved to Shanghai hostel, which was a convenience-shock. However I can't expect more in HK at such a low price. The room was tiny with around 4m2, just enough for sleeping and showering. The toiletries were poor. The room was cleaned everyday but the bed draps unchanged. At night there were different cooking smell and noises that irritated me. Finally, the building was overcrowded with foreign immigrants from India, Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa. For being densely populated, market on ground floor It can be a fire trap. The good point is that the staff is friendly to me. No more fee charged at checkout. In spite of being tiny the room has TV, air conditioner, fan and hot water. There were also a shared microwave oven and boiled water near the door. Position is also good. It is a good choice for travelling with low budget. You should travel in group to feel safer there, but don't expect too much.

I were there in June 2015. The room is quite small same as other hostel in HK. The great things that I love this place is super clean room, bottle of water is provide, no smell in the room. WiFi is super fast and the maid has clean up everyday. Great location in TST. I would go back there again! :)

compact room with all you need.”
The arrival to the building itself is chaotic, but the people you meet will help direct you to the right block. The hostel is on the 5th floor which is a massive advantage when the lift is very busy. I feel shanghai hostel is a good deal for the price in hongkong.

Very small room, but clean.”
The Shanghai Hostel is one of many similar establishments within Chungking Mansions. The first few floors are taken up with stalls selling everything from suitcases to electronic equipment, food stalls Situated on Nathan Road, we were close to everything. Many restaurants of all types in the vicinity, and an MTR Station was opposite. Bus stops all along this road. Public transport very easy to use - buy an octopus card, which can be used on all public transport, and a lot of shops, and top it up when it gets low.The rooms are very small - no cat swinging competitions taking place here! We had 3 triple rooms with 2 people sharing each. The double bed is not big enough for two westerners. The bathroom was tiny, and it took some manoeuvring to close the door, but once inside, the shower was hot and powerful. The rooms were adequate, as we were out most of the time, and only used them to sleep and wash. Good value for money, and perfectly located in the centre of Nathan Road.

Worth Every Penny!”
We had a great stay at the hostel. It was a bit confusing checking in as the reception area was a different area (and zone) from the hostel itself but overall the staff was very friendly. He initially gave us a room for 4 with the intention of moving us the next night but he let us keep the room for 4 people instead. Free coffee, warm water near the hostel door, refrigerator and microwave available for communal use. The room itself was tiny but clean - and most of all there was housekeeping everyday; they refreshed our toiletries and towels. Overall I would recommend this place to budget travelers just looking for a place to rest at night. Chungking Mansions is notorious in itself - best to read up on it before choosing to stay there. We were quite surprised at first but eventually got used to the... ambiance/crowd/smells. Elevators are crowded, slow and questionable at best - expect that you will wait 5 minutes or so per ride.

Cheap hostel, great location!”
Recommending this hostel to anyone who's looking for a cheap room in a great location. (Although Chungking Mansion is quite a sketchy place, the people outside are fairly harmless) it's super near the MTR, the 7-11 and there's a Cafe de Coral & SaSa beside it. Plus Harbour City and Granville Road is walking distance. Also, they clean the room everyday and change the sheets. There's also free coffee and although the room's a bit small, the walls aren't paper thin. It's also good that it's just at the 3F so if the line riding the lift gets too long you have no problem taking the stairs.

Staying at Shanghai Hostel”
Gopi is rude during our check-in time. Yet Mr. Jacky is very friendly and is accommodating to our group during our stay. What you pay is what you get. This is for the people who just sleeps at night after touring HK. Free Coffee and water during our stay. :)

Shady location”
The room was nice & clean.. very tiny but that's what you get in Hong Kong. They did allow smoking inside and with our room being so tiny, it filled with smoke from our neighbor all the time. The hostel was inside of the 'mansion' which was very shady. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my room alone. Being a single female it was a pretty rough area. The location of the mansion is great but as soon as you get inside you will be constantly pestered by all the men trying to sell you things and making other comments...I would pay the extra $5-10 next time for a more comfortable place for sure! Overall, the staff was really nice though!

it was ok”
it was quiet some experiences, It is located in the center of Kowloon, very easy access to anywhere, even take the bus to airport. Hotel called Shanghai Hostel, but it actually called Canadian Hostel, it runs by some Indians. I had no idea where is name come from. The hostel is in Chungking mansion where all the Indians have business and lives there. I was little nerves at beginning, but very quickly I have adjusted it. Hotel room is very small, but very clean.

Compact room and convenient location”
As predicted the room is small but compact where the beds and the bathroom very new and clean. Easy to find because the building is one of the HK attraction. Near to MRT. Affordable price except the smell of curry when you passed by the cafe.
