The Scotsman Hotel
Edinburgh Old Town,Edinburgh - View on map
"We were trying to decide between two hotels for our visit to Edinburgh for the last weekend of the Fringe Festival and Edinburgh Tattoo - their busiest time of the year. When looking at the photos of the two hotels, the Scotsman appealed to us more than the other from the decor. But the decider was that one of my daughters who, as a young college student 6 years earlier had visited Edinburgh with a friend, recognized the hotel and restaurant as the one which had welcomed them so warmly one evening, despite their obviously not being big spenders and being tired and hungry! We couldn't have made a better choice and they still welcome you very warmly. The location is terrific. We could walk everywhere but the shipyard. It's a beautiful old hotel with updated features like a luxurious bed and bathroom. We were travelling with 2 of our daughters who are in their 20s. Our room was on two levels, with the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. We had a beautiful view of Edinburgh and the castle. The downstairs windows looked out towards Calton Hill. The bathroom was HUGE with an excellent rainhead shower. (We didn't use the lovely bathtub) Our daughters' room included a sauna off their bathroom! From the moment we pulled up in the car the staff went above and beyond. Ivor drove with me to the parking spot, which is close to the hotel but required going around the block in heavy traffic. To make sure I didn't get lost or frustrated, he drove with me and showed me how to get in to the hotel from the lower level. The staff are all exceptional. Ivor went above and beyond the whole time, but Nick and the other bellman were wonderful too. The staff in the restaurant very accommodating and pleasant. We got to walk through the lobby of other hotel we had been considering and all of us agreed that we had picked the better hotel. We love the tartan fabrics (from Anta) on the wing chairs in the reception area and wood paneling. There are little reminders that this once house"

Cityroomz Edinburgh Hotel
Haymarket,Edinburgh - View on map
"This was the room with the best value booked throughout our entire holiday. The location of the hotel is so convenient, 2 stops (by bus if you are not keen on walking with luggage) from Waverley Station, has several bus stops in front of the hotel where you can hop on a bus to everywhere including the airport, and if you prefer walking, Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street are just a few hundred metres away, an easy walk. The hotel is surrounded by supermarkets (Sainsbury's across closes at 11pm). Bed was comfy, room and bathroom was clean, an electric kettle is also provided. Did not opt for breakfast. Size was large enough, a good size for the price we paid. Definitely recommended!"

Britannia Hotel Edinburgh

"Breakfast was good, but not impressed by the evening meal. But if you are wanting a decent well priced, fairly central location with clean rooms and decent whisky in the bar, this is the place for you. My wife and I came for the Christmas fair, and will definitely be staying at the Brittania Hotel in Edinburgh again."

"The location of the hotel is a bit of a walk from the main train station. For travellers with big luggages, cab will be the best option. Room is very comfortable, cosy and clean. Hotel does not have a lift, travellers with big and or multiple bags should request for ground level rooms. No laundry services and food services (other than breakfast) in the hotel, the nearest being a walk away. Hotel has a left-luggage option and are helpful in booking cabs to airport. Good pit-stop for travelling around Edinburgh and the highlands. "

Travelodge Edinburgh Central Queen Street

"We found this Hotel to be very convenient for our purposes. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Any extra items i.e. towels coffee etc. were obtained from the desk without any problem. The rooms were very clean and serviced every day. As it was very hot and no A/C in room, it became a bit uncomfortable to sit in the room for any length of time. I suppose it was unusually hot for Edinburgh, so couldn't be helped. The only problem with room was the total lack of drawer space, but apart from that, perfectly adequate. It is a very conveniently placed hotel within a few minutes walk of most amenities and only 5 minutes walk to Princes Street. Overall we had a pleasant stay at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone. "

Travelodge Edinburgh Haymarket

"Good location with easy access to Edinburgh and outskirts via public transport. 30 min walk to city centre. The cleanliness of our room was poor on arrival and the decor is in desperate need of updating. The room smelt musty; there was dust on the units and cobwebs on the ceiling cascading down to one of the beds. The carpet was very worn and stained. The Bathroom was equally in poor condition and in desperate need of modernisation. I raised my concern about the cleanness of the room and the member of staff arranged for the room to be cleaned as we headed out that evening. The member of staff was very pleasant and professional. We were offered a complimentary breakfast for this inconvenience. However when we returned back to the hotel later that evening. The room appeared to have been cleaned , however the door to our room had been left open with all our personal belongings and valuables on show. Not the greatest memory of our break and hotel didn't provide a comfortable stay "
