    As a not-for-profit organization, a temporary membership of GBP 3.00 per person per night is charged per guest on arrival but is free to students (relevant ID is required) in full-time education or children under 16.

The hostel is in a historic building minutes away from the castle. My room was decent with separate shower and WC. The staff are friendly. Great value!

Beautiful but.. needs some upgrades”

Stunning building. Amazimg what they've done with it. But the bunk beds are tiny, the mattresses old, the pillows need SOME padding... oh and... unless I'm mistaken, I saw no plug sockets in the room I was in. People today rely so much on mobile phones etc.. it needs to be acknowledged and dealt with if possible. But yes, my main issue was the bed. People are getting taller..too many hostels have bunk beds intended for gnomes. This one was no different alas...

Old and tired. In need of modernsation and upgrade”

Youth hostels are supposed to be basic and cheap. Not one or the other. This hostel is not cheap. A double room cost the same as two highly superior rooms in Edinburgh had cost the night before. The whole building feels like it needs to be renovated and renewed. Or at least, deep cleaned to get rid of the years and years of use. The building itself externally is beautiful and the location is excellent. The problem here was the price. Youth hostels should not cost the same as normal alternatives.
