This was my 4th visit to the hotel do mar and we’ll be back again. Its location is unrivalled overlooking the beach at Sesimbra. Listen to the waves from your bed at night or sit on the spacious balcony. Rooms and bathrooms are simple but spotless. Don’t expect glam. Only complaint would be that beds are a little hard. This hotel was built in 1966 & the furniture was commissioned specifically for it. If you’re a fan of mid-century modern youre in for a treat with unique pieces dotted around the hotel or filling the bar & dining room. Breakfast is generous. They won’t be the best croissants or coffee but I love fruit muesli etc and that’s excellent. Panoramic views and helpful staff make up for any shortcomings. Lovely outdoor pool. Indoor pool is wonderful too but closed at the moment due to covid. Balcony bar is a magic spot to catch the last rays of sunshine. We’ll be back.

This hotel is not modern but it has great location and outdoor facilities pool etc in my opinion it is full of character and beautiful if you looking for modern rectangular box then maybe not for you

Nice hotel situated central in Sesimbra. Cozy garden with pool and lots of sunbeds. Indoor pool is bug and warm. Remember swim cap; wich is mandatory.

Covid attitude”
We are not discussing the regulations put in place by the Portuguese government, but the attitude of the management and staff of the hotel. On 23 December, a quick covid test was accepted by the staff for the check-in. On 3 January, these measures had apparently changed and only an antigen test was accepted. On 6 January we were not informed about this, as we had returned from the Azores where other regulations are in force. On arrival at the hotel we were treated with condescension and contempt by the reception staff. They were amused at the idea that their guests were going to spend the night in the car, despite a paid reservation. The information that a test was available at the village pharmacy in three weeks' time was nothing short of contemptuous. This attitude is unacceptable. Under the current conditions, whose only aim is to drive tourists out of Portugal, an honest and customer-oriented management should: 1. Renounce non-cancellable reservations until the last moment. 2. Warn its customers by e-mail, at least one day before check-in, of the change in rules. 3. Provide a list of locations with schedules where an antigen test can be performed. Following this frightening reception, the management did not come to talk to us the next day. They are simply indifferent to their customers. A shame.

Not recommended at all, choose different hotel”
I have stayed there for a longer period for event and would definitely not stay there anymore. There is construction just in front of the hotel, that is noisy and block your view. Also some rooms do not have sea view as it was proposed and no refund or discount is given even if you complain. The fitness facility is a disaster. The indoor pool too. No chairs in the room, and plastic chairs in the balcony. No coffee machine in the room. It is not four star hotel, its one star old style hotel from 1960. And it looks like in that days. So if you do not want to be sad and regret your decision, choose a different hotel in the area.

1970's "4 stars" hotel for old generation not for young people”
Not ideal for young people, no entertainment, no shows, no live music. Located just in front of the ocean, lovely ocean view, good breakfast, friendly front desk staff, but it is not enough to make this property "4 stars hotel" in 2023. As a very experienced traveler, I could say, it is definitely 3 stars quality might be 4 stars 40-50 years ago but not today, not in this century.

Unlike modern chain hotels, the hotel do Mar retains its charm. Some may find it stuck in a time warp, but that is its attraction. Exemplary standards of cleanliness and housekeeping. Friendly professional staff. Great seaview rooms. Recommend the rooms in the newer part.

Worst hotel room in 45 day vacation ”
Hotel location is good but one side of hotel is old and run down and more like. 2 star motel. Our room was old. I believe it was room number 126 ?? The bed was small and a double bed. The bath tub and tiles were mouldy Not a cleaning issue but rather the function of non-Reno Went to the front desk right as we checked in but when she talked to her supervisor he said no rooms available. Try tomorrow In the morning no one bothered to to call us to tell us a new room was available The breakfast was good next morning we decided it wasn’t worth wasting 4 hours arguing to get a new room. When I talked to the supervisor, showed him the photos of mould and fungus, amd he agreed it was bad in tyt section of the hotel, and asked “since the hotel was 25% full ( I can see why) why they didn’t give us the new room the night we checked in?? he said you should have to come amd spent the time to try and get the new room. I asked why no one called us, he basically replied that “Most people don’t come back the next day” Horrible attitude

Distinct ambience”
This hotel was a masterpiece in design and construction when it opened in 1963 and it seems little has changed till then, particularly in terms of furniture, hallway carpets and tiling. The dimensions are huge, the elevator system is tricky and walking along the endless large and empty corridors gives a feeling of the hotel in the "Shining" movie, especially in the low season when there are only a few guests scattered over the place. The view is spectacular. The facilities are lavish. Breakfast is generous but not very rich in variety. Some like the place for its distinct ambience, others don't.

Hotel No More”
Our experience was one of exasperation and disappointment. The concierge was adamant that we could not get in our rooms until 4pm on the nose even though the rooms were available. When we finally got our room they were in an older part of the building that had seen better days. The rooms were dingy and sparsely appointed. The grout around the shower was mouldy and made the thought of showering not appealing. This was not an inexpensive Hotel and came highly rated in some books and websites I would recommend you look elsewhere for spending a night or two. The location is wonderful and they did provide a breakfast that was quite good. I am sure better value can be found.

Amazing stay! Hotel’s staff is professional, friendly, helpful and just wonderful. Access to the beach easy, around 5minutes. The views are magnificent, indoor and outdoor pools crystal clear, rooms are comfortable and the food is amazing. Highly recommend
