I took the klook tour bus to iya valley from takamatsu station and the final stop is at this hotel. So there was no problem in getting to this hotel when though it is in the wilderness. This hotel also operates the boat ride in the beautiful gorge. You can get discount on the boat ride if you stay in the hotel. At the entrance of the hotel, you can see your name. They have staff to explain my stay in English/Mandarin. The explanation was super comprehensive - e.g. they will offer to give you a free ride to the obokekyo station with train timings for you to plan your trip. I did not book dinner and hence they informed me that the restaurant at the gorge area closed at 5 PM and they can fetch me to the convenience store if needed. When I entered my room, there was a crane folded using Singapore's flag and a paper with Singapore's flag printed to welcome me - this was really sweet. The onsen was great, it has a outdoor area which overlooks the gorge and the iconic red bridge. Breakfast was hearty and delicious and there was a Singapore's flag to welcome me at my designated dining table. There was a bug on the ceiling when I woke up which does not come as a surprise as we are located in the wilderness. The bug did not bother me so I was alright with it. But I think the best part is that they have an insecticide in the room with detailed instructions on how to kill and clean the bug. I requested for a ride to the station after I checked out and they welcomed me into the car with Singapore's flag. Will stay here again if I am visiting Iya valley again.

I recommend this hotel. Walking distance from gorge with onsen too. Free pickup from Oboke Station. Rooms are clean as expected in Japan. Very good service. Breakfast and dinner had a good variety of dishes and was delicious.

We are surprised that our names were addressed at the entrance of the hotel as a way to welcome guests. They also sent us a welcome message with a Japanese traditional paper bird when we enter our room. The staff patiently explained the dinner dishes for us which gave us a warm and impressive hospitality. When we were about to leave the hotel, we were each given a hand warmer as the weather was very cold in the morning. Another staff was waving national flags to which the guests belonged as to bid farewell to us. All these are very impressive. Moreover, the Chinese-speaking Taiwanese staff made us feel very at home. The best experience in our trip.

Look beyond the external facade, this hotel is a gem. They bother to welcome you in every way, from having your name listed at the main entrance, to all the nice touches such as having your country flag at dining table and a paper crane folded using your country’s flag. Interns from Taiwan help with the communication and see to your every needs. Location was fabulous, within walking distance to the boat ride. The room has all the amenities that you need and more.

The hotel is nicely located close to the gorge and you can walk to the boat for the river cruise. (not too exciting but nice). Staff are very helpful and the rooms are spacious and clean. Very good food in the morning and evening meals. Hot bath was good but the outdoor bath was too cool.

Little bit far away indeed and if by walk needs 20 -30mins from 大步危駅. But u can call from the station and hotel will pick u. Service good and stuff polite . Food and Onsei good too . Full of 桜（just travelled on March 25

Stayed here for two nights and the food served was amazing. Breakfast and dinner were all different and tasty. Very fulfilling. Staff were very welcoming! The area around the hotel is very beautiful! Although it was raining when I went, I managed to do a few recommended walking course. Definitely would stay again

The western room may seem a bit cramp, so it may be better to go for the Japanese style room if you don't have issues sleeping on the tatami. Be careful of bugs in the room (they don't bite, but they may emit a foul odour if you try to kill them with bare hands). This is not within control for the location, so it's a sacrifice you have to be prepared for when staying in Oboke or Iya Valley. They do provide insect repellent and masking tapes to get rid of the bugs. Remember to reserve the room with dinner option, or ask for dinner when checking in. Food options are limited in the area. The onsen may be small, but it is never crowded. The rotenburo has a view facing the lower part of the bridge. A washing machine and dryer is also available if you need to do some laundry. The sightseeing boat pier is within 10 mins walk away and there is a souvenir shop as well as a restaurant that sells mainly soba/udon. Hotel provides free shuttle service. You can get help from the train station staff to call the hotel for pickup service. For dropoff, try to arrange on the night before the day that you are checking out.

This area in general somewhat rural so transportation has limitations. But the staff at the ryokan we're extremely helpful and friendly. They took me to/from the train station, helped me plan using the bus (or not using it when I was being over optimistic), let me borrow an umbrella and we're just all around fantastic. The food was delicious and the onsen was wonderful.
