Beautiful place, incredible way to experience the Buddhist faith and tradition in Koyasan.”
Very humble, but beautiful place. Great hospitality, we were greeted by a monk who took us through the basics of the property and a tea ceremony as well. The onsen in the temple was a real treat. Robes and slippers are provided, as well as hand towels. Curfew for the property is 9pm, although from what we saw, there’s not much going on in Koyasan after that time, so it wasn’t a big deal. The prayers in the morning were definitely a highlight, having the opportunity to watch and then participate in morning chants was pretty special. Definitely an experience I won’t forget

Everything was perfect!”
There is absolutely nothing to complain about, and I thought it was a great temple stay in general. Gracious staff, quiet, and very kind to have travelers join the buddhist mornings. My favorite part was actually the shower room - it's very clean and the big tub feels amazing after a long day.

Utmärkt”
Nice spacious room. Nice bath. Great food. Staff was friendly but spoke very limited English., which made it more difficult to get information. Curfew was a little early (9 pm), which made a night tour of the cemetery more difficult. (Some of the other places had a 10 pm curfew). Location was good, if you want to stay on the side of town by the Daimon gate, but it was a little far from the cemetery. Met some very nice fellow travelers there.

Cold but relaxing”
The temple was great, the monks and the staff was friendly and the food was super delicious. It felt great to soak into the warm water after a long day of walking. The morning ceremony was very interesting although we haven’t understood what the highest ranked monk said. Can really recommend to experience it.

Beautiful place”
This is an incredible monastery, with very friendly monks that greet you. Beautiful and big traditional rooms, you can hearing drumming and chanting outside. A very peaceful place, and the morning ceremony that you are invited to attend is also really wonderful. The location is pretty good, its on the opposite end of the town from Okuion Cemetery (about 25 mins walk away, or quick bus ride), right across from the middle gate, with the beautiful temples there. I recommend visiting the website, reviewing the instructions prior to going. As well, read up on the history!

Appreciated”
We knew the extremely high price from the beginning, but decided to spend one night and it is something unforgettable. The location is great, the kindness of the personnel and bouddhiste monks was great, so polite. We knew all the restrictions (gate close, time for bath and shared bathroom), so there was no surprise. We also took a time (and money) to do the copying of heart sutra and participating the morning ceremony. All went well. Vegetarian dinner and breakfast were ok for us.

Fantastic staff. Got us involved in the prayer in the morning and copying sutra at night. Great rooms. Lovely stay

Yochi-in was the perfect place to experience KoyaSan. Well positioned, smaller temple lodging.. very accommodating. Both meals, dinner and breakfast were generous and beautifully prepared.

Enjoyed our stay in a centralised albeit relatively quiet & peaceful location”
We love the peace in this ryokan-like shrine particularly after the day-visitors left the area.

More than Expected”
We chose the non-food option, and found everything nicer than expected. Room was lovely, overlooking private garden. The onsen was small but nice, and unexpectedly nice was the greeting and tea with the monk. And the morning prayer service with another monk was nice also. Lots of places to eat, fewer at night. Take the walk to the Mausoleum!

Gorgeous property off the main street, centered among Koyasan's best sites”
Magical, once-in-a-lifetime experience. The very traditional environment shared with genuine religious practitioners gave us a kind, peaceful vibe...Ravishing building exteriors, garden and prayer hall; the pictures on Agoda don't do it justice. Our jaws dropped when we walked in. Meals aren't cheap but they are lovely, thoughtful and healthy, a good value. This particular inn is in the middle of town but on a dead-end street, very quiet. The bath could be hotter and I didn't like the jacuzzi-like bubbles but my friend did. Some staff speak English. You will enjoy the morning ceremony if you are interested in Buddhism and chanting; you can participate or just sit in. We Loved Yochi-in!

Nice experience in koya-san with temple stay ”
It was a nice experience to have a Tempel stay. The monks are very nice and friendly. To have the full experience i would recommend to book the stay with dinner and breakfast. Even though the food (mostly tofu) is not our preferred choice it is nice to have dinner in that atmosphere. You need to be aware that the room only have a kind of mattress (futon) on the floor. The bath time is only at night from 5-9 pm. So it is not a 5 star hotel. But definitely worth it!

Beautiful room Wonderful meals Loved the experience

Authentic experience; high recommended ”
This is a real temple, medium sized with beautiful buildings and gardens. The opportunity to watch the early morning prayers shouldn't be missed, definitely! Food is interesting but simple, since it is what the monks eat day-to-day; you might still feel a little hungry if you're used to big plates of katsu curry, but I very much liked it and would strongly recommend taking both meals.

Authentic traditional experience”
Surprising combination of traditional and modern (room had air conditioning). Traditional breakfast and dinner. In the morning we participated at a Buddhist meditation. It was cold on the hallways (which was probably the case for most buildings in medieval Japan). In our room it was warm, though. Overall an interesting experience.

Great location and staff”
Convenient location, Family Mart convenience store nearby, staff were great. Did the night walk which was very informative. Would definitely stay again if going to Koyasan.

Thank you for staying with us. We appreciate you to write us a review. We hope you will come to stay with us again. And I want to go night walk with you again! Next we will go Okunoin.
Great experience”
The staff were so wonderful and accommodating and the temple was so beautiful. We didn't join in for the service in the morning or the meditation because we were so busy and so tired! Koyasan was a beautiful place and this was a perfect place to stay to experience the Buddist culture.

Nice stay”
If you want to stay in a temple it is one of the most economic places in Koyasan. It is authentic preserving the old style, whereas other temples are more refurbished. Location is good just in front of the Daito Pagoda at the Garan temple complex and 15 - 20 min walking to Okunoin Cemetery. A Family Mart is around the corner.

Highlight of Japan for us”
Koyasan was such a great addition to our tour of southern Japan. To reach it, you take a slow single track train and then a funicular and then a windy bus. Staying in Yochiin, we took part in the 630 AM service which was a completely new and refreshing experience. We did not eat there, there is a Family Mart next door and an Izakaya down the road, and cafes in the town. The sights are really breathtaking and the countryside as well. We walked some of the women's pilgrim route, about 5 km starting past the Daimon gate. Great views and the terrain wasn't too steep or difficult and tracks well maintained - check for bear advice before you go though. Although there are no frills at all at yochi in, that is really the point and I would recommend going and letting the simplicity of the way of life and the gracious hosting of the monks there ease your soul.

Great location ”
Expensive but unique-saw temples and shrines in the evening with very few people around. Prayers in the morning was with one monk, who seemed to speak wisely-but no translation
