Simply the best find for a skiing and onsen resort in Japan ”
My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Lotte Arai Resort and telling our friends that it is the BEST resort we've ever stayed for a memorable skiing, osen and winter experience in Japan. Slopes are perfect for the very beginners (Pony 400m) to practice and the mid-beginners like me (Myoko Long Run 2,300m + Roppongi Road 1,100m + Village Road 2,100m). Despite the limited number of service staff manning the various outlets and facilities, the staff are enthusiastic to serve and please the guests. The fresh bakery/cafe is perfect for quick and light breakfast, and the staff there were most helpful to ensure a delicious hot meal. The Korean restaurant is popular providing better quality food and value when compared to the Italian which is good but pricy. It would be perfect if there's a high end/signature sushi/sashimi for guests like us who prefer not to dine in buffet style restaurants (Japanese and All DayDining). We will definitely be back before it gets over-crowded.

Amazing place to enjoy the snow ”
The shuttle bus from train was easy and the driver was so kind. The front desk staff did amazing to make me feel welcome. The room was comfortable and spacious. I would stay here again. I recommend the zip line!! So many fun things to do.

Relaxed vacation”
We are an English speaking family, so it was nice to have people who spoke English, But you will definitely need your Google translate if you do not speak Japanese. The food was great and the best part according to my kids was the evening pool party with light up globes and floats. I do wish that there was a better convenient store. But they did have some what of a convenience store there, with the basic items.

4 star wrapped in a 5 star shell”
A nice big modern hotel at the base of the mountain. 4 interconnected accommodation sections (Arai, Lodge, Club and Nest). Arai reception is separate to the rest, its the reception for the other sections that has the glamorous staircase. Arai reception is still nice and has the fireplace going at night. Arai section is closest to the onsen. The hotel is about 50-100 meters walk/ski across the courtyard to Gondola. Food was ok-good but expensive. You can catch the shuttle at night to the road stop 20 minutes away where there's a few little basic restaurants. Or eat at the Gondola or Korean restaurant at night for cheaper option to buffet. Bakery good and you can buy packaged sandwiches to go. Comfortable room, bed and pillows. It's a rad off-piste mountain, don't come for groomers. Huge coastal snowfall, low altitude mountain. Awesome after big dump. Acess to Big Bowel is a hike/skin up, not much acess to it via traverse. Ski patrol do an awesome job. Good steep off-piste sections.

We arrived on the first day of the 2018 ski season and there was some confusion regarding the free shuttle buses from the train station. Eventually the hotel sorted it out but we arrived a bit late and the manager in charge, an American guy, was very apologetic. As it was after lunch time, the main kitchen had just closed but the Korean lady in charge got the chef to whip out some kimchi stew for us even though restaurant was already closed. The property is very huge, recently refurbished and has magnificent views. It was also snowing half the time. We had a wonderful few days just enjoying the snow and scenery. There were many ski resort type activities to do and the nearby coastal villages are not too far away by train. The in house onsen was pretty good too.

Western Ski Resort ”
A nice and decent resort in Myoko. There is a free shuttle bus scheduled every 1~2 hours to/from JR station/resort. If you take taxi from Jōetsumyōkō Station to resort, it charged about 5000 yen. Checkin staff was nice and the room assigned to us was big enough. There are 4~5 restaurants with different dishes. The most delicious is the "Korea" one. After all "Lotte" is from Korea right? It is convenience to rent the ski gear just next to the resort and there is a food court too. In house guest can enjoy free onsen inside the resort. Its nice and comfortable when you were exhausted after skiing whole day.

We had a wonderful stay at Lotte Arai! pros: The staff were extremely attentive and helpful. Almost everyone could speak English so it’s easier for foreign travelers. The rooms were comfortable. The chicken at Jongno was amazing! The place is open til late too! cons: Food prices are what you would expect at a hotel like this but I can’t say the quality of food is worth it. Shuttle buses are a bit infrequent. The closest convenience store is at least a 15 minute drive away from the hotel so if you need anything best to bring it when you arrive. Overall the place is great and we’d love to stay again 😊

Room size is big”
Twin room has two supersingle beds, room size is big and has connecting room. Staff are friendly and helped to show the way when we are kind of lost. Onsen is big and fantastic. Love it! Has lots of activities for kids even there are no snow to play with when I was there on 13 to 15 Dec.

Great Location! Pity Spa was closed”
Lotte Arai is perfectly located. Easy to get to via Shinkansen from Tokyo and hotel is across from the village and lifts. Only downfall was that hotel is still fairly new and it seems like they are still addressing a few teething issues eg Staff are unclear which restaurants are open and what their menu charges are for kids. We also got served our Latte and Cocoa without milk which was due to training but they rectified it straight away. The staffs are all very friendly and helpful which made all the shortfalls less painful. Initially I was a little disappointed that the spa was not open but there’s plenty of activities available so I didn’t miss not having a massage. The slopes were perfect for beginners learning as well as the thrill seekers. And it is not overly crowded. Definitely will be back again!

Nice resort and great slopes. Not much of a crowd (quite quiet indeed!) so it was very nice to relax on the mountain and in the resort. Selection of restaurants/food (and price of food) can very much be improved.

Very clean and good facilities ”
We went towards the end of the ski season so there weren’t that many guests around but the facilities overall are very good. The Onsen is very nice and clean, kids playground although a bit small but enough facilities to get our kid excited for many hours. Since there was hardly anyone left we almost had a place to ourselves, although I’m not so sure what it would be like during high season. The breakfast could be improved!! The Korean restaurant was very nice!! One little complain though, for a luxury hotel, we would expected someone sort out our luggage for us instead of having to take them up to our room by ourselves.

Wonderful Winter Resort with World Class Facilities ”
I really enjoyed travelling with my half-Western, half-Japanese family members. The bed/room size was fit for Western guests and the food was fit for Japanese standard (=High). We absolutely loved the Onsen but too bad the pool is for a fee. Snow condition was not good given the early season but that allowed for not-so-crowded resort experience. All in all, great place!

Very children friendly resort. I'd recommend renting a car at the JoetsuMyoko Station as they have free parking, much more flexible. The Zipline is definitely worth trying though it is weather dependent.
