Cosy and charming ryokan with friendly English-speaking staff”
This was the accommodation highlight of our trip! The ryokan itself was incredibly charming and spotlessly clean. We stayed in the room with a private outdoor onsen bath for 2 nights - soaking in the private tub with the enclosed garden around you, you get an excellent view of the surrounding mountains and lungfuls of the crisp fresh air. Such a relaxing treat! I can only imagine how magical this experience would be in the winter with snow everywhere. The staff were welcoming, warm and friendly - they spoke excellent English and were able to helpfully explain anything we weren’t familiar with. The meals provided (multi-course kaiseki dinner and local tiered bento breakfast) were delicious and beautifully presented, and printed English menus were provided so we knew exactly what we were eating. Location-wise, the closest station is Minakami Station, and a free shuttle service to and from the ryokan is provided (prior reservation is encouraged). If you don’t request the shuttle, I believe there’s a local bus service available, but it’s a pleasant 15 minute walk to the ryokan if you’d like to go on foot and check out the little shops in the surrounding area. We used public transportation to get to the local tourist attractions like Mogitore Fruits Land (highly recommend the all-you-can-eat fruit-picking course!) and Takumi-no-Sato crafts village. The tourist information center in front of Minakami Station can supply you with useful timetable sheets, definitely get those so you don’t miss the last bus/train back. We really enjoyed our stay at MICASA and can’t wait to return!

I want to visit every year”
My family and I wanted to experience a cozy winter holiday together while skiing. We looked online and many places were depressing looking, however MICASA looked so beautiful so we decided to stay at MICASA. MICASA has a spacious car park for all guests with a little pathway leading right to the lodge. When we entered we were greeted by a beautiful traditional Japanese lodge with a stove glowing warmly. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. We were checked in within minutes and had a detailed introduction. Our room was upgraded for free. The room was amazing with beautiful simplistic shoji screens and a tatami tea room overlooking the snowy mountains. The bedroom was very warm and felt peaceful. Dinner was deliciously presented and served with love and care, the meal was healthy, and filling. I believe it was the perfect amount. Breakfast was yummy, healthy and gave us the energy we needed for the day! We frequented two of the onsen which were a relaxed way to start and finish our days! We plan to make a tradition of staying at MICASA for many years!

A Fabulous Stay”
Although the town has seen better days, this ryokan was very well maintained. The experience was excellent overall. I had a river view room with private bath. It was the largest room I have ever had in Japan. The view was nice. All baths here were clean and hot. The food was very good and traditional. The staff were very friendly. I really liked the provided pyjamas. And, their haori were the warmest I have ever seen in Japan. I really liked that the public and private baths had ice water to drink. I definitely recommend this place.

Really Japanese experience ”
By far is the most beautiful Ryokan where I stayed. The food is tasty and nice served. I also had explanations about what it is and how to eat. The futon, duvet and pillow appear to be new, are comfortable and warm. Perfectly white sheets! The whole place is clean and has its own perfume. There are beautiful things in all corners. Some beautiful kimono... It's like a expo! Thank you very much!

The most beautiful gem of a mountain ryokan!!”
We stayed here for a few nights on our honeymoon. This ryokan is a quick Shinkansen and bus ride from Tokyo. They have a shuttle to pick you up from the bus station so it’s very easy to get to. It’s located in the adorable little town of Minakami, which seems to be a seasonal town for winter sports and hiking. We were absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the beauty and cleanliness of this ryokan! The tatami mats, kimono decorations, little zen decorations and amenities were absolutely top notch. It’s a smaller ryokan, lending a more personal aspect to your stay. You’re not just a room number- you are a welcomed guest that they know by sight and are consistently cheerful and kind to. The meals were UNREAL- I highly recommend getting the room options with meals as they are incredibly authentic and amazingly prepared. They will make up bedding in your room while you dine and give you outfits to change into with tabi socks. There are 2 gorgeous little saunas and a 3rd on the 2nd floor. Loved it!

The highlight of our trip! ”
We loved staying in Micasa. We came from Tokyo and it was a quick train, bus and shuttle ride to the ryokan. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We got the room with the outdoor bath and it was great. The whole place was clean too. You can get pajamas/ housewares in the lobby and they have robes in the room in case you feel cold. We enjoyed the food and they even explained to us what we were eating. There's also coffee in the sitting area where you can just sit and relax. The town itself looked deserted but there's a big supermarket nearby. We really enjoyed our stay here and we highly recommend this place!!

The most incredible Ryokan I’ve ever stayed in!”
The room was absolutely beautiful, the staff kind and attentive and the meals (breakfast and dinner) were delicious. We had a room with private outdoor bath and it was incredible to sit in the heated bath and watch the snow fall. Honestly magical. Thank you Micasa for such a wonderful stay.

MICASA was a wonderful experience. Staff were super friendly and careful during Covid period taking great precautions. The onsen area was beautiful. Food was more casual than some ryokan with fewer courses. This is actually a great thing if traveling with young children as getting them to sit through 5 courses is near impossible. Excellent value and less than 2 hours from Tokyo.

Dinner and breakfast served with local delights were fantastic. Staff was very friendly. Onsen was great! Rooms were spacious and sleeping area separated from living room area. Nearby supermarket and walking distance to great izayaki. Definitely will return.

Beautiful ryokan in a quaint town ”
A beautiful, clean and serene ryokan in a quaint town. Comes with kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Staffs are helpful. The ryokan is abt 10min to the supermarket and close to their village restaurants. Will be back again for our yearly snowboarding trip

The hotel is a small scale. But their service was great. 2 of them can speak fluent English. Both their dinner and breakfast were fabulous and they used the local and seasonal food. When they heard that we are going to the ropeway next day, they give us discount coupon for us to save some money. The room was in Japanese style (tatami). Would recommend to anyone who doesn't speak Japanese.
