Great experience”

We stayed two nights in this hotlel. It is conveniently located, about 12 minutes walk from Kintesu raiway station and 6 minutes walk to the major scenic spot. We enjoyed the private open bathtub in our room very much, especially after a full day hiking in the mountain. Staff is friendly. Dining experience (dinner and breakfast) is beyond expectation.

We loved our stay”

This was our first ryokan experience, and it was amazing! The staff is really attentive. I have never been to a place that was so attentive. It was like magic. The dinner was great, and had a violinist. It was very enjoyable. Our room had a private outdoor bath and we really enjoyed it. It was a great experience.

Dinner and breakfast is wonderful”

Staff are super attentive. The food is fantastic. Location is near Nara park and center so its great. The ryokan in the picture that looks like it is on the rooftop is extra pay (about 3500yen) but the two public baths were enough for us. Would love to stay here again next time i come back to Nara!

Very cute Japanese style home and very value for money. It has all essential facilities including washing machine, bath tub, fire stove etc. Please minded that the check in place is in a different location of the stay.

The staff was very accommodating to our dietary requests (gluten, dairy and egg free). Some of the best meals we had on our trip. Room was spacious and the private rooftop onsen was very nice.

Charming Nara hotel (ryokan?) with excellent hospitality.”

I loved our traditional room with tatami mats and the open air bath on the balcony. I got the best sleep of our trip during our night here, the futons were surprisingly comfortable and the location was quiet and peaceful. The kaiseki dinner was for the most part lovely. It was pretty traditional but I was able to enjoy about 90% of the food and the quality and presentation were excellent. The staff was absolutely welcoming and friendly, and they even included a magic show (the magician spoke English and Japanese, which was awesome). For breakfast we chose between a Western and traditional Japanese breakfast, and my husband enjoyed the Western breakfast but I have to be honest and say the traditional Japanese breakfast wasn't as enjoyable as the dinner for me. Still a lovely experience though! Other highlights were the warm welcome during check-in, they gave us some lovely yuzu tea and carried our bags to our room. They also gave a tour of the hotel. Very close to Nara park, also!

Everyone in this hotel was super nice and respectful.The hotel was really clean. The theme was exactly what I was expecting plus more. It is very different from the other hotels in japan since it’s a ryokan. The only negative side is WiFi was really slow.

Very nice hotel in a great location - perfect for the Japanese gardens, plus key temples and shines. The hotel even gave us a guide for the day, for free, who spoke English; that was a big bonus.

Lovely”

The staff is fantastic, you can't beat the location. If you're looking for a luxurious get-away with real authenticity this is the place! The meals were delicious- only opt for them if you are up to try legitimate Japanese cuisine. We had a wonderful time. Tips: Check in early, they give you deer cookies upon check in! Feel free to store your bags there before check in time and explore the park, they were very gracious. The privates baths only fit one person.

Extremely pleased with New Wakasa Annex Hotel. From check in to check out, the staff went above and beyond. Dinner and breakfast were included during our stay. The amount and quality of food you receive is simply extraordinary. Some of the best Japanese cuisine I've had. The facilities are spotless. Our room was spotless. The location is a short walk to Nara Park. There is a lot to see and the hotel staff will help you with directions and recommendations. I hope to stay here again and will recommend this hotel to my friends and family.

Ok hotel but staff has to become international”

We stayed there for two nights room is OK, but willingness and helpfulness of Staff is really not so good

location, clean”

location is very good, near nara park and almost all the transportation, room is clean but not so traditional, onsen is normal, not much view for onsen.. food is just about average if compared to other ryokan in japan, staff is good, sending us a postcard and taking a instant photo of us when check out.

Clean traditional hotel with private bath”

The staff were very welcoming and tried their best to speak in english with us as we didn't understand japanese. We booked the traditional japanese room, so we had to remove our shoes and placed them in a shoe locker before entering the property. The room was clean enough for a traditional tatami mat room; I'm quite allergic to dust, but I didn't have allergy issues during my stay in the room. They were also nice enough to serve us hot tea two times during our one-night stay (once during check-in, and one more time at night) and gave us postcards and pretty little bags as souvenirs to bring home. The only downside is probably the location. It's about a 10-15min walk to Nara downtown, so if you did not book the room with dinner meal, you'll have to walk quite a distance to the restaurant areas. We also had zero issues with noise even though there was a group of school children staying at the property during our stay. Well recommended!

Fantastic ryokan close to Nara park (deer), with great atmosphere. Tip: Get the Japanese breakfast. All in all must-do experience.
