An absolute delight for the money. While there are hotels that are located closer to the station, Smile still sits right in the center of the city. The staff is extremely friendly, and the number of facilities included in the price is great! While I have had a "Don't disturb" sign on the door one morning, the housekeeping staff was still kind enough to leave me clean towels and extra tea and toothbrush in a bag outside the door. The room was a little bit narrow and the bathroom looked old, yet everything was clean and worked perfectly. Fully satisfied and would come again.

It was nice stay in utsunomoya city. Hotel is about 10mins by foot from the JR Utsunomiya station. The price is cheap enough :-)

Simple but nice”
I stayed here for business purposes. Walking 7-10min to Utsunimiya station. There are a couple of Izakaya( Japanese bar ) and convenience stores nearby. The room is small but good enough for me. Clean and simple!!

I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the room. Much bigger than expected. Rooms were clean and comfortable. There is free coffee in the lobby. The walls are very thin so you will hear alot of sound, especially from the hallway. One bad point, my shower head wasn't staying in place, had to be placed at a weird angle for stability. The fitting must have been worn, but easily fixable. The staff were lovely and friendly ! I had a wonderful check in experience. Morning breakfast was slightly limited but sufficient. The hotel is located very close to the Station. Theres also a bus stop nearby to take you to the mall. There is also numerous restaurants nearby. All in all, a wonderful stay.

You need to walk about 10 mins from JR station. The room is clean and staff are nice. The breakfast only cost 800 yen and foods are not bad. Quite inexpensive!

Pretty Good”
I walked from Tokyo to Nikko during the Golden Week, a time when people and families travel all over. The staff and facilities were pretty standard at Smile Hotel. The staff followed all the rules of hospitality, but did nothing above-and-beyond to make the environment any warmer. The rooms felt a bit dorm-like, especially with giant, heavy, metallic doors and the crammed toilet/shower combo. It was very clean though. It's not so close to the station, but it's not far either. I finished my walk for the day and came to Utsunomiya just in time to avoid the rain on my walk, but the distance from the station to the hotel was enough for me to get soaked in it. Again, everything at Smile Hotel was pretty average. The most disappointing point was that prices were pretty jacked up for Golden Week, and that made me feel like I paid too much for a hotel that was just, well, average. Would have felt better if the prices were a bit lower, and would stay there again under those conditions.

If you are traveling alone and just looking for a place to sleep, this hotel is an option. Though the access is good, the facilities are at a level of satisfaction. Do not expect so much.

Had a 3 person room, third bed is awkwardly added into a deluxe room. Was decent to sleep with not much room to open luggage. Carpark is far away as it is not on site. Price was expensive. Not near any supermarket or cinema or malls. 1km from train station
