Onsen Oasis”
The staff was attentive from the first moment we met them at the train station. A man holding a sign took our bags onto a shuttle to the ryokan. The ryokan is very rustic and charming but extremely well kept and the staff were incredibly helpful. They spoke Japanese, English, and Chinese (possibly even more). The room we chose was a traditional tatami style Japanese room with a separate sunroom that had amazing window views all around of the river and buildings. It was also stocked with towels, tooth brush and paste, comb, face towels, and tea and coffee sets. The staff came during dinner to lay out our futon beds for us. The baths were everything. Being open in the morning and evening, the outdoor baths were heaven. They're super well kept, clean, and well attended. The dinner buffet and breakfast buffet had a mix of Japanese and western foods and was all great. I would definitely recommend and come back to this place!

Scenic Onsen”
The most scenic onsen experience I have to date. Located in the middle of mountains and just next to the river, it is an ideal break for city escape. Used to be traditional unclothed bathing, however, to cater to foreign guests, have implemented bath dress codes in their outdoor baths. Although negatively accepted to some, I am thankful, for now I can bathe and enjoy the surroundings with the family. The pools are large and nested right next to the clear waters of Tagawa river. Amazing! They ryokan has the charms of the old ryokans and their staff, despite some negative reviews, I found were very professional and friendly, akin to the well-known Japan customer service. I chalk it up to language barrier and difference in culture. Will come back!

Best Onsen Ever”
Takaragawa Onsen is one of my best onsen experience. The hot springs have scenic view with snow. Staffs are very friendly. Room is clean and comfortable. Recommend to everyone who need the onsen experience to try this place.

Everywhere you look was breathtaking. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, food was incredible, easy to get to (free shuttle bus), not crowded and it began to snow upon arrival... just WOW! Still pinching myself to believe we went there and it wasn’t just a beautiful dream. An absolute must for Japan

Amazing Stay”
The staff and facility are truly wonderful. Our car would not make it up the last hill (heavy snow) so they came down to pick us up. (great shuttle service). 4 different onsen to use and most open until midnight. Excellent place for couples weekend trip, cant wait to book again. Facility is easy to navigate around, plenty of signs and friendly staff to assist.

Well worth the money for an incredible experience that you simply cannot find anywhere else in the world. Contrary to some reviews, we found one night to be sufficient - even though we would have liked to stay longer! The staff spoke perfect English and were beyond welcoming. They went above and beyond to assist us in any way possible - including organising a lift to nearby Hodaigi Kogen at 8:30am. We stayed in the main hall; the rooms here do not have showers but they do have ensuite toilets. Yes - this means that you have to walk about a minute to the indoor onsen to bathe, but we did not find this to be an issue (and in fact added to the authenticity). The dinner service was a little strange for my Vegetarian partner but still very filling. The food kept coming so don't go too hard on the early courses! The outdoor onsens were of course the star attraction - we were lucky enough to visit during some snow (late Feb) and the experience was dreamlike. We absolutely loved it!

I came in winter season and I think it was perfect season to come! I really love the landscape. And the food was so yummy! It was so peaceful and refreshing. The Onsen also very convenience due to there are 6 pools. It was so worthy. I love it much! Definitely want to come back with my husband.

Wonderful onsen”
Overall was perfect but should’ve shuttle bus departure time later than 9.30am, too early to wake up, rush to have breakfast, pack stuffs and run to bus. Also hard to contact the front to book the shuttle bus from train station, staffs should be able to communicate in English.

Wonderful experience at Takaragawa Onsen's rotenburo-s! The staff were all friendly and fluent in English, and for my early check-out, they gave me a lift to the bus-stop to catch the public bus to Minakami Stn. I would love to visit Takaragawa Onsen again for a longer stay.

Beautiful location”
This was my third time to Takaragawa onsen. It seems that they have experienced a lot of foreign visitors as a cover-up bathing costume is now required for the onsen. I found this to be alarmingly inauthentic, but could be good if you're shy about being naked in front of mixed gender strangers and want to enjoy the rotenburo onsen. I hope all Japanese onsen do not adapt this culture; foreigners need to know that if they are in a foreign country that they should adapt to local customers and cultures. Horseflies are another problem during the day although they are clearly trying to control that problem. You can enjoy the baths in a romantic setting at night without any horseflies. The staff are helpful, friendly, and top notch and some of them speak English. They are very careful to check for food aversions and allergies too even though I didn't list any.

Winter wonderland”
It’s definitely an onsen we would love to visit over and over again. Truly magical. Open air hot baths enjoyed with family as it snowed was amazing. Gorgeous set up. The meals are very generous. I’d recommend carrying your own toiletries as everything provided in the bathing area is quite basic.
