Great property, perfect location...”
My son and I spent a month in Africa and finished our trip with a few days in Zanzibar, staying at the Tembo House. The place was wonderful. Great WiFi in the rooms, the cleaning staff made the rooms spotless, there were AC units in the rooms, and the daily breakfast on the beach was a full breakfast spread, really delicious, and the location is right out of a brochure. They even have the property roped off so that the touts aren’t bothering you trying to sell shirts, necklaces, etc (you get overwhelmed with this on the streets). The staff was super helpful, and arranged some excursions for us that were less money than we would have gotten if we booked them directly. Just a fantastic experience staying there.

This historic building with the perfect location is a must stay. The grandeur of the building alone is enough to awe you and add the unparalleled views, fantastic location and exceptional staff it would be foolish to stay anywhere else. We had 2 separate stays and the first was in the ground floor suite which had a front row seat to the evening action of watching as the entire town seems to come out and stroll along the beach. Our second stay was a top floor ocean view room which was simply breathtaking. The staff are incredible and go above and beyond. I lost my glasses and didn’t realize this until I arrived at my next hotel an hour away. Tembo staff tracked my glasses down (found in the taxi I had taken) and they were returned to me at my new location by Machumi the taxi driver. Tembo staff and the drivers they arrange go above and beyond and think nothing of it. One of the best stays I have ever had.

Spacious, clean rooms and great location”
The Hotel is in great location in historical building, very nicely decorated and with friendly and helpful staff. We stayed here for last night before departing home and it was overall great stay. We couldn't get late check-out, as hotel was full, but were able to store the luggage and use all amenities till our departure to the airport, which was great, as we were able to enjoy on the beach (sandy with great shade by the trees). Kids loved the swimming pool as well.

Excellent hotel!”
The hotel was nice - the room clean, the pool a lot of fun, the beach also excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only suggestion is that they should improve the food - the restaurant food is not good at all (breakfast was totally fine). In future I will absolutely continue to stay here but will just make sure not to eat lunch or dinner here - although that is a real shame as its a great space for a restaurant! With so many other restaurants nearby, though, it's not a deal-breaker.

Excellent value for money”
We had a wonderful stay and breakfast was delicious! The property is clean and the staff were super friendly but I highly recommend getting directions from the hotel prior to your stay if you intend on driving. Google maps directed us to a one-way street where some locals tried to get us to park at the harbour and walk 3kms to our hotel. They were extremely persistent and it was not a pleasant experience at all.

Loved our stay here. The pool was wonderful. They cleaned it daily. Don’t swim in the ocean out front though. Swimmer’s itch from the sewer. The location is perfect and the staff were very accommodating. Rooms were clean. Breakfast buffet was great. Will stay again.

Amazing Hotel!!!”
My girlfriend and I stayed in this hotel for 7 nights and enjoyed every second. The staff was beyond amazing and willing to help with anything we needed, even the manager of the hotel everyday was speaking with guest to make sure the guests have everything. The hotel located very central with 2 minutes walking distance to anywhere as bars, restaurants, market etc. the hotel has there own restaurant with delicious food and big option so we didn’t need to go to other restaurant. The hotel also the only one hotel in Stone Town that have private beach. Thank you guys for everything.

This is a hotel with style and athmosphere plus excellent service given with a smile. Very attentive and helpful staff. That includes the General Manager who took his time to walk along to chat with guests We had not expected that the hotel was straight on the beach. Clean water and sand.(some empty plastic bottles now and then unfortunately, but it is the same along all beaches we visited. Zanzibar: watch out! We and many other tourists are getting fed up with unclean beaches!) Nice to walk along the beach from the hotel, watching the locals playing soccer and swimming. In the late afternoon we enjoyed sitting in our sunchairs,watching the beach in front of Tembo turn into a spectacular show with young people showing off their acrobatic skills. And after that looking at a magnificient sunset ( then we missed a beer or a GT) Breakfast was good with plent of fruits and a chef preparing your omelette or pancakes!

Very nice clean place to stay for å few days in Stone town. The hotel is right on the beach and is centrally located in town. Everything in walking distanse. Friendly staff and nice food at the hotel restaurant. Easy access to Prison Island from the beach just outside the hotel.

Finally a good shower in Zanzibar!”
This hotel was wonderful. I spent three days in total here, one in a double balcony room and two in the suite (free upgrade who hoo!). This hotel was clean, the rooms were lovely with very comfortable beds and working A/C. Honestly the best part was having a shower with great water pressure....I would stay here again for the shower alone! The staff were very friendly and prompt. Also enjoyed the restaurant, the food was good and fairly reasonable on price. Should be noted that this is an alcohol free hotel. Location is right on the beach!

Fantastic historical building”
Beautiful hotel on the beach front in Stone Town. Walk everywhere. Dry hotel. Restaurant food excellent. Pool fantastic!!! Rooms have everything you need. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I really cannot fault this hotel. The GM walks around and talk to guests. Breakfast is Halaal and plentiful. I will not stay anywhere else in Stone Town!!

The "house", with restaurant is located just down to the water front. Where breakfast and dinner is served, overlooking Prison Island. Apartments are nicely "hidden" away in a cozy alleyway, where children were playing soccer. Leading right out to Freddy Murcery's old house. Rooms were clean, AC and a fan for the nights and friendly staff! Unfortunately, no alcoholic drinks were on the menu, in the bar. But large selection of virgin drinking options.

This hotel is really a great value. Clean, wonderful rooms, with an amazing shower. Great staff overall. Food was decent and reasonable. Location is great and the pool looked wonderful. Have a great seating area with high speed fans which was cool and relaxing. This hotel also is accessible for travelers in wheel chairs as they have ground floor options. There is no alcohol at the hotel. Out of the three places I stayed in Zanzibar this hotel had the best rooms by far!

Tembo House - Gem in the City”
My stay at Tembo was fantastic. The location of the Hotel is just amazing, everything is near at walking distance.. Plus the Hotel has a beachfront. It has two pools too.;The big one at ground floor and the small one roof has an amazing view. Breakfast buffet is awesome. Friendly staff. Mr. Abdul Azeez (The Manager) is very friendly, interactive and helping person. This hotel is highly recommended.

We are a family of 5. We stayed in a family room in the annex with 3 king beds. The room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom didn't have any mildew in it, despite the climate being very humid. The only complaint I have is that there is only one small closet with 2 shelves to store everything for up to 6 people. It would have been nice to have more storage, but that was the only drawback. We were walking distance to the beach, pool, shops, and the best restaurants. The hotel was very well located. And downstairs in the annex there is a lounge with foosball, billiards, card games and board games, which was great the one day it rained outside. The kids were sufficiently entertained.

Stayed before and will do again. We were in the annex this time, just across the road 1 min walk away. Twas fine. Great pool with a shallow kiddy section plus right on the beach for the kids to dig in the sand. Room was huge with 3 big beds for $120 a night. Highlight for me was the fantastic buffet breakfast. Egg station, curries, chapatis, pastries, fruit, tea & coffee, coco pops for the little ones. Plenty of taxis outside if needed. Don't pay more than 20,000 to the airport :)
