Great ryokan staying experience!”
An old well-maintained ryokan located on a great spot for going skiing with shuttle service per our request. Restaurants and convenient stores can be reached by hotel shuttle or city bus--walking is OK but can be tiring during snow season. The room was clean and large. The onsen was good and helped us refresh from whole day ski. The staffs provided exceptional services. The dinner was spacious. It is a good choice for family with young children.

Great service provided especially the free shuttle from the station and also from the nearby town. Traditional tatami and a great view from our room. In house Onsen was a bonus especially after a Long day from skiing. Would love to stay there again.

Wake up in the wonderful view of snow mountain . Just the Onsen tub abit small and old but its actually the historical kind of onsen. overall very good and nice environment with shuttle bus provided by the hotel until 6pm.

No 1. Staff are extremly helpful and kind. No2. plenty of shuttle buses to get around and good connections with out business in the area. No3. Facilities are great: onsen with a beautiful view and treatments, play area for children, massive library and a cinema. No4. Breakfast is great... could be opened earlier & later. No5. My flight was delayed and arrived the Yuzawa station late, shuttle bus service stopped, but it was very kind that the hotel came and picked me up at the station. Also tks for the help from the Ski resort help contacting the hotel. The staff at the restaurant and other area are also super nice too.

Great service and friendly staff”
Staff was super helpful, eventhough shuttle service finished, but they are willing to pick us up after late dinner. Room is a little bit old, but clean, view from the room is amazing

It was a windy night. We stayed on 6th floor corner room. The room was spacious but it seemed tired. The sockets were loose, dangerous to plug in. The separate bathroom was terrible and the walls within that bathroom were unvarnished. When we opened that bathroom door, wind was blowing in, literally. Then next day, gala was closed. However, staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave us free lifts to the ski rental and station whenever we needed.

Exceptional”
Traditional Japanese ryokan with a historical building & a beautiful interior. Staff were very polite and helpful and their attention to details impressed me. The food was amazing and the onsen was lovely. As a literature lover the library lounge and Yasunari Kawabata museum were definitely a bonus to me. Shuttle service was available to & from the train station as well as Gala snow resort, just that I didn't have local phone service and had to find a public phone booth to call them.

Great vintage hotel!”
Staff are very friendly and helpful, especially the shuttle bus driver who took us to Gala back and forth everyday! Breakfast (buffet style) is very good. Dinner is somehow judgmental but if you don't want to go out you don't have a better choice. It is the first time we ever stayed in a traditional Japan hotel and it was a pretty interesting experience.

Told there is No private booking for onsen, so my 6 years old daughter and I went to the male public onsen with few other naked males walking around!!!! Breakfast

Front desk service told me, it only 10 minutes walk to Yuzawa Kogen with my 6 years old at 8.30am in Winter. Staffs in the restaurant was much more hospitalities then the front desk guys! They could not even lend me a adaptor to charge my mobile I. My room, instead putting my phone on the floor of the front desk to charge using their adaptor.

Was a really nice traditional Japanese experience. Staff spoke English well, and I felt at ease even as a solo traveler. The food and onsen were great too. They also provide shuttle services to and from the station at certain hours.

- The wifi was super weak. - The toilet was cramped but the ONsen was open from 1pm till 9am, so its better to just shower there. - The staff had little command of english but were very friendly. - There was a shuttle bus service from 8am to 6pm daily but if you are returning at night the hotel is a far walk from the Yuzawa station.

Good overnight option for skiing at Gala Yuzawa”
While there are shuttle buses from Gala and I could have called to be picked up; I ventured on foot from Gala station and was there in under 8 min. The ryokan is associated with a movie classic based on a novel written while the author was living there. The movie is screened every night at the lounge. Spacious onsen. Japanese buffet breakfast.

We were there for snowboarding holiday. It’s convenient to use the hotel shuttles and ski resort shuttles to get around this area. I would like to be back.

Charming and Traditional Ryokan”
Spacious rooms by Japanese standards with excellent views of the surrounding mountainous landscape. Lots of interesting extras like the library, movie room, and museum on the lower floors. The onsen was a great, especially when it was minus 8 degrees outside. The only downside was that dinner options were very limited and needed to be pre-ordered.
