Lovely ryokan across from shrine”
My boyfriend and I stayed here one night during a week visit to Shimane, centered in Matsue city. The ryokan owner was friendly, funny, and helpful when we arrived. We communicated in Japanese, but English would have been fine as well. The ryokan is in a charming house across the street from a tenmangu shrine (which was nice to visit in the morning) and about a 10 minute walk from the main station. Our room was on the second floor. We received tea and biscuits in our room as a welcome treat. The room featured very pretty floral screens, 2 aircons, and a TV. There were shared toilets on the same floor, and a shower and onsen-style bath on the lower floor. Our hosts gave us a complimentary breakfast of yogurt, toast, jam, fresh fruit, and coffee. The whole ryokan had a great laid-back feeling. I will definitely stay at this ryokan again when I next visit Matsue! Highly recommended.

Welcome to peace and tranquility”
Do not be quick to judge the hidden treasure of Terazuya. It is just a 10 minute walk from Matsue station, and across the street from Shinto shrine Shirakatatenmangu. My totami room equipped with TV and wifi, had a modest and beautiful view of a waterway and walking path. The sounds of the surrounding area were peaceful and calm which encapsulated the experience of slow living. I didn't expect to fall in love with its suddle charm, however, I find myself drifting back to the memories of my short stay there. No matter where you may come from, you will feel like home.

Charming ryokan with excellent host”
We loved this ryokan. It feels like the real thing. It's in a quiet and pleasant part of town, walkable from the station alongside the river, and within walking distance of the castle (main attraction in Matsue) and town centre. The host, who speaks some English, is very welcoming and thoughtful; our tatami room spacious and pleasant, though the bathroom was downstairs (washing facilities and toilet by room). We were worried that it was by the railway tracks but we did not hear any trains at night.

Traditional Japanese style”
If you go to Matsue, I would highly recommend staying in this hotel, especially if you want to stay in a traditional style room in a family run place that seems popular with the natives. The room was a traditional Japanese style one and I found it very comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The place was clean and tidy. Although the hotel is close to a train line, any noise from it did not disturb me. At first I was a little apprehensive to find that my room door had no lock on the outside, however I felt my belongings were going to be perfectly secure and they were (even with my laptop left on the table when I went out).

Great traditional Japanese inn at low price”
I had a great time staying at this ryokan. The couple who run it were very friendly and helpful. It is near a big lake and not far from Matsue station -- just follow the train tracks. They gave me breakfast in the morning and offered me brochures about the places I wanted to visit. I'd definitely stay there again.

Nice staff.”
It's 10mins' walk from Matsue Station and it's at a residential and quiet area. It's very traditional style. The bedroom could be locked only when the guest was insides. I guess the security is fine at that city so it had this arrangement. The host gentlemen speaks some English and nice. The only problem was it's just next to the railway. While the train was passing, I felt like a tiny earthquake. But I had just a very short stay and it's not a big problem for me.

Terazuya Ryokan”
Very friendly ojisan and obasan. Doesnt speak much english but will try to mix in some english words to help foreign travellers (I can speak Japanese so did not have a problem understanding them). Very helpful in terms of directions and recommendations in terms of places to visit. Also, they kindly offered to drop me off at the train station during check out! The room is suitable for a couple or even a solo traveller. If I do come back to Matsue-shi again, I would not mind staying at this Ryokan again.

Friendly ”
Although not as luxurious as many of the places I have stayed at, the ryokan scored highly in my book precisely because of the friendliness and helpfulness of the family managing Terazuya. As a result it will remain the most memorable of the places I stayed at during my trip.

Exceptional”
The ryokan is well kept and neat. The couple who run the ryokan and very friendly and are nice to talk to. Even though, we didn't speak much Japanese, we were able to get by using Google translate and a travel phrasebook. They showed us how to make the traditional matcha tea and demonstrated the tea ceremony to us. The ryokan is quite big and spacious. We enjoyed our stay here and left Japan with some good memories to take back home with us.

It's good for backpackers.”
The room is clean and host was so kind. :) It's also pretty close to Matsue Castle by walk about 15-20mins and there is beach park near by. The only thing I felt uncomfortable is the train passed by this ryokan so if you sensitive person in sleep you should be prefer to this. The other things were reasonable for backpackers.

Authentic ryokan”
Authentic ryokan. A little bit noisy but that didn't really disturb us. Very kind hosts. They picked us up at the station and even brought us to the castle in order to be at the lantern festival in time. Next morning we had a breakfast for free and they even gave us a short introduction for authentic tee ceremony. So kind. We would definitely chose this place again.

Friendly staff”
We were offered an 18-mat double room which was available, with the sole constraint of moving to a regular 6-mat room for our last night. A very fair deal ! The staff was very friendly and provided lots of visiting advice (in Japanese). The Western style breakfast was too light (the Japanese style was OK). Overall, a very good deal if you enjoy this type of accommodation.

Lovely traditional ryokan”
We were hosted by a lovely old couple. It is a traditional ryokan with generous bedrooms and basic facilities sufficient for a brief sleep-over. Convenient location from the train station, meaning you can also hear the train passing by.

great hosts! NIce location, awesome room size!”
The hosts were really nice, the breakfast that comes with the room, not the extra expense, is yogurt, toast and fruit, very nice treat. We really would recommend this place as the room is nice and large, the hosts helpful and the environment pleasant.

Quiet comfortable ryokans with wonderful hosts ”
Spent 2 nights here. Comfortable. On second night we weren't hit with typhoon. The hosts made us dinner at no charge, shared stories and showed us how to do a tea ceremony. Very close to train station. Such a nice change from hotel

A good familiar place with a lovely couple ”
I had a relative large room, with airconditining (heater) tea and sweets. Also a bathrobe and western towel. The owners are super; you are guest. I would stay there again.

Enjoyable stay on a nice small city.”
Location is great, just blocks from the train station, and the hosts were great. He speaks a little English which is nice and her cooking is superb. The train rumbles by periodically but it must stop at night because I only noticed it during the day and early evening. Easy walk to "the" sunset viewing spot at the art museum on the lakefront. I had a very enjoyable stay.

Pleasant stay”
Very spacious and traditional room, would recommend this to those who wants to experience authentic Japanese style room. Very friendly couple too. Although it can be a bit scary if you are the only one staying in the house.
