Wonderful!”
My brother and I loved staying at The Caledonian and would recommend it to anyone. The staff was attentive and very helpful. We really liked our room and the amenities offered, especially the very comfortable beds. My brother had been attending Exeter College in Oxford and his room there was pretty basic. He really appreciated The Caledonian bed. The location of The Caledonian is wonderful. It is perfect for exploring Edinburgh. Lots of great restaurants and shopping. I hope to return with my husband in the near future, the best compliment I can give - I want to return!

Comfort and peace of mind”
this was the second time i have stayed in the caledonian. again the room was very comfortable and we had everything we needed to be content. we had no castle view but that did not bother us. the location is superb, breakfast and the dinner we had was lovely and staff in this place are friendly and helpful on both occasions. the gym is small but very well equipped. the pool and jacuzzi are adequate but could do with a face-lift. overall a very good hotel to stay in when visiting edinburgh. would highly recommend.

Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff”
We stayed only one night at The Caledonian as we had to fly out early the next morning. The staff was so gracious, helpful and kind to three weary travellers that we felt comfortable instantly. The room was beautifully appointed and the view of Edinburgh Castle was magnificent. Like Eloise at the Plaza, we would have moved in to stay if only we hadn't had a flight to catch (and not such deep pockets)!

Everything we hoped for and more”
From the moment we arrived we felt attended to and taken care of. We arrived at 11AM and requested early check-in as we had to catch an early train to St. Andrews. When I told the front desk staff our plan and that we were celebrating our 30th anniversary, she checked us in to an upgraded room with a spectacular view of the castle. All of the staff we met from the concierge (directions) to the doormen("Would you like an umbrella"), bar wait staff (we chatted throughout our meal) and front desk staff (anything we needed)were all friendly and helpful. We will always stay at the Caledonian and will recommend it to our friends. Dr. Tom from Pittsburgh, PA USA

Could be great but is only average. Barely.”
The last time I stayed at the Caledonian in 2012 it was the Hilton, and undergoing renovations. When it became the Waldorf and I returned in 2014, I expected that the new premium price was going to be a reflection of the upgrades they had made - note so! The hallways and rooms are exactly the same, and many of the areas of the hotel show their age and are quite run down. The furniture and carpet in my dark and somewhat cramped Deluxe King room were in desperate need of an upgrade. The water damage in the bathroom and the haphazard plaster and paint patch-over was extremely unsightly and looked like it had been done by a completely inexperienced home handyman. The hotel definitely doesn't reflect the image of the Waldorf-Astoria brand. Even more disappointing was the fact that Hilton Diamond membership privileges are no longer offered, and so I got none of the perqs I received when it was still the Hilton - e.g., no complementary breakfast, room upgrade, or high-speed internet access was included. I probably wouldn't have had a problem if the price had gone up and they had upgraded the rooms and the amenities, but I don't see any value in paying double for exactly the same hotel room without any of the same benefits. I will likely stay at the Sheraton next time which is just a block away, and where I still get my SPG Gold privileges.

Very central hotel with excellent service ”
We have spent wonderful time in Edinburgh and the hotel had much to do with it. Service was excellent, staff was smiling with inimitable Scottish restraint and respect towards the guests. The hotel’s location is so good! Everything is close-by: Prince Street, the Edinburgh Castle and the endless range of restaurants and cafés. Well, a “Hop-in and Hop-off Bus” stops just across the street. During our stay the Hotel was decorated for X-Mas was superb. I will prefer to stay for next time.

Classic Style with Contemporary Features”
I stayed at the Caley recently for 3 nights. The location is fabulous, being a step off Princess Street, in the Shadow of Edinburgh Castle and the Hotel whilst boasting modern amenities retains an old World charm. The Rooms overlooking the Castle are a premium but the view at night and during the day is fabulous and worth it. The only issue that I have with the hotel (along with a great many other high end hotels) is the hugely overpriced internet connection which operated inconsistently. That aside, my stay was fabulous and I wont hesitate to return.

Fantastic hotel & perfect location. ”
We really enjoyed our stay and will return. From the minute we arrived all the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Our room was fantastic, larger than expected, fantastic bathroom and ample room even with an extra bed. Breakfast was good value and excellent quality. We found the hotel in a perfect location & close to all the sites as well as beside the bus to Edinburgh Zoo and Airport. Will definitely be back.

Classic & premium hotel”
We like its classic design with memorable history behind. The location is very convenient and with a spectacular view over the Edinburgh Castle. Marvellous! The rooms we stayed in first night are renovated and with a contemporary feel. They are neat & tidy. Especially we like the bath jelly & lotions very much. One disadvantage is the hotel is still under renovation and no parking is provided. So, we need to have our car parking far away from a distance.

Overnight Getaway in Edinburgh”
YAY: very close to edinburgh waverley train station (around 10 mins walking distance) and it's right beside the edinburgh castle | hotel interior is very classy and elegant | breakfast buffet has a great selection of food | we were allowed to check in early | the staff was kind enough to show us the way around and gave us a map | fast and free internet connection in the room BOO: we were locked inside our room and unable to open the door from inside. we called the reception for assistance and they sent an engineer to take a look and have it fixed.

Pleasant stay and convenient location, short walking distance shopping areas at Princess street, pubs at rose street as well as the Edinburgh Castel. Room and bathroom was very spacious and clean. Staff service was good, and I very much recommend trying the high Tea located at the second level of the hotel. Overall stay was excellent.

good location with spacious room”
towelling robes, slippers, flannels plus lotions all provided. huge sized bed - flatscreen tv - desk - armchair. everthing worked and everywhere was clean. free wifi in lounge - not in room. breakfast was very expensive - our deal did not include this - but plenty of coffee shops just outside the hotel across the road. late night noise was not a problem. would stay here again as long as i can get a deal! - pricey otherwise - but we are talking about a top class hotel. only downside - room had dormer windows - so slightly dark in daylight. variety of tea bags in room but limited number of "breakfast teabags." not enought for tea in the evening and following morning.

Over priced”
Unfortunatly we received a back facing room to the a/c court yard filled with mist noise and no view! The bathrooms very very very date and feel Dirty because of the falling grout peeling paint, old shower glass partition left in place with no glass...looks very run down more like a road motel the the waldorf Astoria!!! .. Very very disappointing especially after paying an arm and a leg for a romantic stay in a posh hotel!!
