Useful overnight stay - would recommend.”
Located in a side road right opposite Kings Cross / St Pancras, this hotel is well placed. We booked a "small double" room and although it was small, it was clean, comfortable and had a new en-suite wet room. The room was in the basement which proved to be very quiet (for London). The staff were all very friendly and helpful, breakfast OK too. Would use again.

Enjoyed our stay - would recommend / stay again”
We stayed for 5 nights so requested a quiet room, having noted from other reviews that there were parts affected by noise. We got a very quiet room (105). The rooms are very small and basic as the building is very old. There was no room fridge, safe or wardrobe, and very little floor space; but we knew of this from other reviews. Ours had an ensuite. The bed was very firm - which I like, others may not. The rooms were very warm - so was the weather, so we had to sleep with the window wide open with no security screen, but ours overlooked an enclosed court yard, so it was ok. I doubt security screens would be permitted on old buildings due to fire regulations, but an internally removable one would be beneficial. The decor was lovely Art Deco, the staff most obliging and breakfast was plentiful. It was the same food each day, but as the selection included 3 cereals, 2 breads, 6 hot dishes, different yoghurts, fresh whole fruit, 3 juices, tea and coffee, you could make a different combination from this, each day. The location is great - 3 min walk to the st pancreas / kings cross station. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Great Time at The California”
I've really enjoyed my stay in The California. It's a lovely townhouse setting, modern in style, but with character. Its located close to Kings Cross Underground station (appr. 1 minute), several restaurants (normal and fast food) and a Tesco are also in a radius of max 5 minutes. Room (I've booked a Large Double) had a great size and was very clean. Staff was very friendly and breakfast was amazing - and I'm a breakfast enthusiast! My only remark: In December room should be heated (at least in the bathroom). Staff has turned heating on immediately, but due to some air in the system it didn't work completely. But: Due to the fact I had two blankets and I'm always travelling with a hot-water-bottle it was warm and cosy in my bed :-) All in all I can tell: I was really happy in The California, I will recommend it to my family and friends and I will come back - I promise!

Fantastic hotel! Fantastic staff!”
My mum and I stayed in one of the twin rooms in the basement. The room was medium sized, very clean , bedding was clean and the ensuite was small but very clean and had a good amount of toiletries. The room was perfect for us with tea/coffee making facilities and tv. The hotel is really quirky, and the staff are amazing. The art-deco reception , bar and patio areas are very welcoming and you get s free drink too! Bonus! We didn't expect a full cooked breakfast with our room and so were very surprised and delighted to have a breakfast each morning! The staff are wonderful! Helpful and chatty and go out of their way to make sure if we needed anything they'd be there. Location is spot on! Literally opposite Kings Cross Station. You don't get many hotels in London that are bang on trend, superb location, great food and amazing staff , all for a really good price! I will definitely be going back to this lovely hotel.

Warm and Cosy Hotel at a Great Location”
We wanted to stay for a night in London before we travel to York the next morning. Thus staying near to the railway station is crucial to us. California Hotel is located just 2minute walk away from King Cross Station and has plenty of eateries along the street. Checking in is fast as the friendly staff have our details ready on hand. Hot traditional English buffet breakfast is included. Highly recommended for this affordable hotel.

good location for train”
I wanted a hotel close to rail station as i was only in london for one night and had an early train to catch. The location was ideal as it was only a three minute walk from kings cross and st pancras. As a person who judges a hotel on the quality of its fittings, the shower was one of the best i have seen in a hotel even ones which cost twice as much for a nights stay. The breakfast was a bit basic but i didn't expect the food to be cordon bleu. The room itself was small but adequate for the one night i was staying. All in all iwas satisfied with this hotel and would consider staying again.

So convenient, stone's throw from Kings Cross and St Pancras for Eurostar. Staff extremely helpful and room much better than expected for three stars! For our purposes couldn't have been better. Definitely stay there again.

A good choice”
Because this hotel is near King's Cross Station, everything is easily accessible from here. They also serve a sumptuous breakfast. The room we had is small, but it was clean and cozy enough. Unfortunately, there's no lift so we had to drag our heavy suitcases up to the fourth floor. But aside from that, everything else is great. Due to the steep prices of hotel stays in London, The California Hotel is one of the better choices for the practical traveller.

Stayed here between the 18th to 25th of February. I loved the fact that the hotel was near King's Cross-St Pancras so if you need to get to the Tube or the Eurostar to Paris it's a quick 5 minute (or even less!) walk to the station. Room was clean though it felt like they didn't mop or cleaned our floors in our room (no carpet in our room). Breakfast was good. The room itself was a bit too small for us. We were pretty crowded with our luggage. Also, there wasn't a lift/elevator so it made it a bit inconvenient when it came to our luggage. Other than that I would recommend this hotel for solo (or 2) travelers. For families of 3-4 it may feel a bit to crowded in the room.

Comfortable large family room for 6”
Just less than 5 mins walk to St Pancras. My whole family find it so convenient to travel to Paris via St Pancras with large luggages. Especially with my 72yrs old dad and 68yrs old mum, the hotel was so convenient for them. Food was easy as there are a few halal restaurants just around the corner. We will definitely book this hotel for a short stay in London and if we want to travel anywhere with Eurostar.

Great staff & all the basics”
Staff were professional and polite throughout. I had a tiny single room but what I had was still a solid 3 star experience. Lovely bathroom. Also got to store my luggage for free and explore London. Would absolutely stay here again. Great value for money for London. And right next to an entrance to King's Cross station. In terms of not so positive aspects, visitors should be aware there are no lifts so it might be difficult to carry up heavy luggage. Keys were very old fashioned so a little difficult to use (but I found a little jiggling about and fiddling fixed things!). And finally breakfast is fine but not anything exemplary (in case you love a good English breakfast!).

A nice suprise (mostly)”
The rooms are a bit cramped, but with price of property in that part of London, the hotel's prices are fair. There was a glitch in the booking: I booked a double room but the hotel had a twin for us. I think the mistake lay with AGODA. The staff at the hotel made a great effort to correct this a.s.a.p. and even moved all our stuff for us during the day when a double room became available.

Great location, average room size, but no lift”
Staying there for 6 nights. Pros: 1) great location, walking distance to underground station is within 1 min. King's cross underground is very convenient, it is an interchange to other lines. I really love the location of the hotel 2) nearby the hotel u can find Mcd, burger king, chinese restaurant, western restaurant. 3) the room and bath room are clean 4) staffs are friendly, help us to carry our luggage to 4th floor, there is no lift in this hotel. Cons: 1) no lift. U have to carry ur things by using the narrow staircase. But for us we are okay with it as luggage are carried by the staff, we just carry our shopping things after everyday shopping 2) the room is slightly small, but i guess every hotel in london, the room itself is small as well, beside their space are very limited. So i can tolerate with it. 3) next is the breakfast, i stayed there for 6 nights, they served the sane food for breakfast everyday! Bacon, eggs, saussage, bread, bean. Everyday eating the same things. I asked the staff she said the food will be the sane everyday, i nearly fainted. I hope they can provide different foods, especially for us who stay 6 nights in the same hotel. Overall im satisfied with this hotel, except the lift and breakfast. So i will suggest people who only looking for 2 days staying to stay here, as they dont change their breakfast menu. And only suitable for those who are young to mid age people or to those who have less luggage to carry.

Wonderful staff. ”
I do not usually write reviews but this hotel is exceptional. Even our rooms was compact it was super clean. Room air was good. We also liked the hard wood floors in room #003. Thanks for wonderful house keepers. Staff members were all helpful and they responded very quickly any request. The breakfast area was nice, light, clean and filled up with food even we arrived later for breakfast on Saturday at 9:30. We would definitely stay again.Thank you so much.

Clean hotel,helpful staff,central for metro+buses”
Overhaul a very pleasant stay with nice room and friendly, informative staff. Handy for Metro/train and buses. My husband and I used the buses mostly because we wanted to see all the famous sights that London has to offer the tourist. It was well worth the visit, my husband wants to visit again and we will definately stay at the California Hotel again.

Quiet and good position”
Located in a quiet street very near to St.Pancras train station and King's Cross metro station. Our room was small but cozy, I would suggest it for minimalistic travelling. The bathroom was clean, the glass door is better for couples at ease with little privacy! Traditional building, friendly staff, bring an eye mask if you need complete dark to sleep.

Great location, 2min walk from St Pancras/ KingCross station. Meet all expectation. Clean room, bathroom with bathtub & hot/cold water. Breakfast was basic. Only con: can hear the police cars passing by every hour or so with a loud siren :(

Convenient and friendly; they make a real effort”
As a traveler on Eurostar, with a London workplace nearby, the location is ideal. Rooms are small, yet well appointed. Nice bar and congenial breakfast space. Corridors and stairs not ideal, but nothing to cavil about. Staff are very friendly. Would return there.
