Allows one to feel as the way London might have been in the past”
Classic Victorian feel. We choose to stay here because I wanted to feel like I was in London. Our double room was huge with a tall ceiling, floor to ceiling windows and a thing massive drapes. Mini fridge in room was nice. Nicer to have a micro too, but did not. Continental breakfast only. Staff was cordial and accommodating. Classic old style bathroom hardware added to period feel. Your room key is a real key that looks like the old Skelton key. Very nice, safe neighborhood. You are just 4 minutes walk to the Gloucester Rd. tube. This line goes directly into central London and requires no train change which was nice. Easy in and out of the city. The business area around the tube station has everything one needs; cafes, restaurants, convenience store. There is even a florist shop just next to the entrance to the tube with fresh bouquets splashed about in front. We would stay here again.

Nice with some improvements to be made”
The location of the hotel is great and the area is lovely. Very practical and close to the Tube. The hotel is nice and of good value for this area in London. The room was small and could have used some improvements (carpet was so old and worn-out there were entire pieces missing) but overall it was comfortable and nice. The person at reception in the morning was lovely but the lady in the evening who helped me check-in was very unfriendly - same when I ordered room service. The food was quite nice. I think a few minor improvements in the attitude of the staff and refurbishing some very old carpet/tapestry would have made me give 5 stars to everything.

Cheap and good location”
Unfortunately some days they put dirt towels and we ask to change. There was also dusty on the carpet. Broken glass to drink juice and yoghurt up to date. Good price and very good location.

Suitable for tourists”
Nice quirky hotel in very good location. Quiet area near Thames and Battersea, close to Gloucester Road Underground Station. Helpful staff. Would return if going to London again.

Older hotel, clean with nice staff”
We booked this hotel because it came up as "close to Paddington Station, which it is not and which was disappointing. The hotel was fine although if you stay in the side without the lift be prepared to haul your bags up three flights of narrow stairs. The room was clean, old but comfortable. The price was fine. We only stayed overnight (once in and once on the way out of the UK) but would book there again.

Good location but in need of an overhaul ”
+ location near Gloucester Rd tube station - in need of a renewal as carpets, decor and furniture too old - breakfast is only toast coffee and yoghurt

Deceiving/NOT 4*”
Location great. Slow check in, receptionist not really with it, had to go twice to see if room ready and this was 3.30pm. I was asked for my passport, which as I live in UK, don't carry with me as a rule! Asked him about tea/coffee, if it was complimentary as no facilities in room, he said yes but then said it was £2.50? Clearly was not understanding what I as. The rooms were smaller than in photos. Booked twin bed room, but the beds were together and room not big enough to separate them. No minibar as advertised. No robes as advertised. The view from the window was of brick wall and tatty roof of building next door. The bed was comfortable but the pillows hard as Rick. WiFi didn't work. Could not see a bar anywhere downstairs, there was a trolley with half dozen bottles on it so not sure if that was it as it was in the breakfast room ( which on the photos was shown as reception). The breakfast was very poor, I've stayed in two star hotels with better choice. There was cereal, toast and cold pastries. No fruit, cold meats or cheese ( which I believe constitutes a continental breakfast). Coffee arrived nearly as finished breakfast (and no brown sugar) All in all very disappointing and misleading and most certainly NOT 4*

Above average”
While the location was great, there really wasn't anything else I liked about The Cranley Hotel. I'm sorry but it was disappointing and perhaps due to it being an old building. The photos look very clean and elegant and I thought it would be very "English" however it felt dirty and I was uncomfortable there. The running water kept surging so it was difficult to wash our hands and to take a shower. Also, we were given bath towels but no hand towels nor washcloths.

Location is good, however, the hotel is too tired and is in need of a refurb

Really lacking cleanliness and quiet. Very well located though ”
I’m glad we got a big discount on this booking because I would have never paid the full price. This hotel lacks in cleanliness. The walls of the bathroom were falling apart, there was hair on the bedsheets and the towels. Our tv turned on spontaneously out of the blue twice the first night waking us up. No one cleaned the room the second day they didn’t even come in to do the bed... there is a semblance of a cost feeling in the downstairs common area and the staff was nice. The best thing about it was location but I wouldn’t go back.

Disturbed sleep”
Had to be moved from 1st room offered as the plumbing in the bathroom was banging. Dropped off bags in 2nd room before going out for dinner. Woken up through the night with banging plumbing. Went down to reception and was met with many other guests complaining about their being affected too. Clearly a hotel-wide problem

Nothing like on the website ”
When we turned up it seemed great then everything went down hill from there. The lady we met was lovely and was told we had been upgraded! If our room was meant to be an upgrade, god knows what the first room would have been like! It was out of date, needed some work done to it and had trouble locking the door! When we left to go out for the evening we had requested two more pillows to our room as the pillows we had were so thin it felt like laying on cardboard. By the time we had got back the pillows had not arrived so we asked again! The man at the front desk basically ignored us and what a surprise we didn't get our pillows so our sleep was not comfortable. The breakfast was also a massive disappointment! The tables had already been used and not set back up, we then only had option of cereal and a couple of yoghurts which had been messed with. We did finally get toast but it was burnt and didn’t taste great! Overall the only positive thing was the location!

Disappointed”
Expections of this hotel were not met. Although an ideal location the room we stayed in has seen better days. Holes in the carpet, curtains threadbare, stain on the beds headboard and also chair. No provisions for tea or coffee facilities in room. Refrigerator tired and appears not to work. Bathroom very tired, worn toilet seat, broken bin. Taps and shower covered in limescale and bath panel warped and swollen due to excess water. Part of tap was missing. Dining/reception area although presentable chairs were very worn.

Great hotel - 10 years ago”
This place would have been lovely when it opened, but now they don't care and it has fallen into disrepair, with frayed curtains, stained headboards, wonky burnt lampshades, and so much stained, broken and botched in repair. Incredibly disappointing for the money.

Acceptable”
Room really cold, radiator and heater both not working. No hot water on one morning so couldn't have a shower. No water at all on one evening! Couldn't even flush toilet! No explanation given by staff. Poor choice at breakfast. I sent an email to complain and have not received any reply. Would not recommend this hotel.
