British Hotel with great food in kensington”
This hotel is situated in a area near other hotels and Hyde park. It has a hushed feel and we barely saw other clients during our stay. The restaurant was mostly empty As well, which was surprising given the high quality of the food. The breakfast is the highlight of this hotel and included a smoked fish platter, fruit salad, rich Greek yogurt with assorted toppings, a bread and morning pastry basket, etc. We also had dinner there and were quite pleased with our meal. The room was small but I am told that is typical of London hotels. The sheets were lovely and the bathroom products exceptional. The only issue with our room was the spotty wifi service and the lack of free decent wifi. The staff was helpful. Probably best suited to couples and business travelers. It is a 10 minute walk to the nearest Tube station which seems longer in the rain.

Short but delightful stay”
We spent one night at the Gore Hotel and highly recommend it. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are charming, and the location is perfect (just steps from Kensiington Palace and Gardens). Our room was very quiet and comfortable. Be sure to have drinks in the bar and learn of the Rolling Stones connection to the hotel.

Lovely Hotel, shame they didn't tell us that were renovating”
Firstly, I would return here and recommend friends to stay here as it is a lovely old hotel. My major issue with our stay was that the building was covered in scaffolding and being repainted/repaired. At no point did the management contact us to inform us of this. It was unpleasant surprise when we arrived. Thankfully we weren't disturbed by any builders outside our window but this was just luck. In another room we may well of had builders outside our window during the day. Poor of management not to inform guests of this and/or not to offer compensation or an upgrade. We had a leak in our room from the roof on our second night. Staff were attentive and gave us another room swiftly. The reception staff do what they can but they are limited in what they can do. Upper management need to be more considerate to their guests or the hotels reputation will surely suffer. This is lovely old building and the rooms were comfortable and very attractive. The bathrooms aren't in keeping with the style of the rest of the hotel and were a bit disappointing. It would be nicer if they had used less common tiles and something more classical to match the decor of the rest of the hotel. We will come again and hopefully see some improvements after the renovations are complete.

A sad and old hotel”
In any overall bad hotel experience there is good to be found – so in my critical review of The Gore Hotel let me start with the good bits. The greeting by the receptionist was friendly and professional. The concierge, Thomas, was welcoming, friendly, and helpful and I commend him. The location is perfect for the great London Museums and the Royal Albert Hall. The bedding was of fine quality and comfy, although the bed was small. The good bits end there. There is ‘shabby chic’ and there is ‘shabby’. The Gore Hotel is decidedly shabby – where do I start? – there has been little upgrading for decades – and it shows. Remember the 1950’s, well The Gore has it all – a varnished wood creaky elevator – threadbare stair carpets – our double room was poky and the shower room tiny – the basin was cracked – the ornate mirror surrounds were grimy with decades of dust – the rug was falling apart – the original single glazed windows were ill fitting and ‘old’ (a notice warned about children accessing the windows) – our shower cap pack contained a previous guests’ used toothpaste tube! – there was no tea or coffee in the room - and very worrying; no fire directions on the room door. We waited and waited for service in a quiet ‘190 Bar’ – the barman was more interested in selecting his music on the bar laptop than serving clients. We were served with two glasses of wine, not measured and of different sizes. When we asked to pay, we were delivered a printed bill with a pointed comment by the barman that ‘I have not added service to your bill’. We did not eat at the hotel. We paid about £160. for a double room without breakfast. This old established and well regarded hotel is existing on its reputation alone. If there is no attempt to upgrade and modernise the residents’ areas, then, regretfully, the hotel is destined to fail. RIP The Gore Hotel.

Lovely for a short stay in London”
The room we were in was pretty small and on the 5th floor (the lift only goes up to the 4th). However, the hotel had lots of character, a nice bar, restaurant and library. We'll stay again but in a bigger room next time.

Solid four-star hotel”
Front staff friendly but low-service, housekeeping staff excellent. Bar is attractive but terribly overpriced. Overall, a solid four-star hotel whose small room size and age show a bit, but a nice location well-suited to exploring nearby Kensington and museums.

Old world charm in Kensington area”
Nice old-world boutique hotel in a row of Victorian-style townhouses directly opposite Kensington Gardens and next to Royal Albert Hall. Long, grand history ! Rooms were rather small and cramped; not much space for large suitcases; I had to "upgrade" to a larger, more expensive double room (even though I was solo). Some road /traffic noise came through the windows. Bathrooms had only shower in the basic double room, but bathtub and more spacious in the upgraded room. Restaurant was expensive. Staff were friendly enough and pleasant.

Excellent location for the Royal Albert Hall”
The Reception staff had no record of our booking (despite handing them our reservation email) and we had to go and sit in the library with our luggage whilst they investigated to see if we had a room or not. It turned out reception staff hadn't yet checked their emails that day. No apology forthcoming from them (this was 530pm in the afternoon!). Checked into our room, which was on the small side, but fine. although carpets a little stained. Went to brasserie to eat, but despite being hotel guests, there were no tables, so we had to go out of the hotel to find somewhere to eat. Room had no hospitality tray to make early morning tea. Service charges eye-wateringly high, especially at bar - queued at the bar for 15 minutes for a drink, and bartender had no idea how to make a white wine spritzer! I felt the hotel was let down by some aspects of customer service, unfortunately. Not sure that I would stay there again.

Small traditional boutique hotel”
Lovely hotel with "old world" style and charm...understandable when reading its history, which is all over the hotel. Rooms are rather small and felt "cluttered". Despite being a single traveller, I had to upgrade to a superior double room, (st higher cost)

Pros - fabulous room, lovely staff on reception and in the bar. Quirky bar very cosy Cons- breakfast appalling waited 1 hour 20 mins for cooked food which was cold on arrival. Cold buffet very poor also. We complained and were not charged but it was too late to go elsewhere.
