Arrived to find staff being very friendly and helpful, even carried one of our bags to the room. Owners went out of their way to be very welcoming, and always engaged in conversation. Would definitely stay there again next time we are in the area. Would recommend to anyone.

Well worth the money we paid for two nights, breakfast included, nice choice of food, hotel is obviously an old building, so it is a bit worn and tired, but that was part of the charm, room was very clean , the staff were really polite and offered a a good service.

This is a tired building in a tired town but with a friendly and enthusiastic couple bringing some life back into it. They know how to cook a good breakfast. Rooms were clean. If you need to stay in town then this listed building should suffice

The location was good for me as I have relatives in Ferryhill and its 30 mins away from central Newcastle... The room was clean but rather basic for the price I thought although the bathroom was nice and warm and the bath was long and deep The hosts were warm and welcoming

Deceiving photos ”
Based on photo images looked a really nice place. Arrived to find place in need of TLC needs a complete refurbished painting carpets steam cleaned are replaced. Bathroom re grouting etc etc. Positives staff were lovely and very friendly. Food was good for pub food it did have a big telly in room if it had a tidy up I would pay more to stay there again .

Music til midnight and loud til 1am room was nice but one of the towels was dirty and a teaspoon was dirty. Breakfast was good but missing toast or hash browns and wasn’t offered a cup of tea or any drink with the breakfast. They did allow dogs which was good

In need of a good clean”
Needed accommodation near Durham due to a graduation ceremony. We arrived later and the owners were extremely welcoming. The building looks dilapidated and in need of renovation. Our room was a basic with clean bedding and towels. The carpet in the bedroom was stained, marked and dirty. The bathroom was clean but lots of mould on the silicone around the bath/ shower.

Bed sheets & towels clean. Room basic & in need of a good clean. Very dusty on all exposed ledges. Dead wasp on floor which hints the room hadn’t been touched since maybe Sept/Oct last year. Ceilings painted along with light & extractor fan fittings & splashes of paint on toilet lid. Stair carpet was so dirty, the colour was unrecognisable. We arrived to be told the kitchen was closed at the moment although tea & coffee available in the room. Electricity safety in the room was suspect as lots of extension leads were used. Very noisy bar & garden area at night.

Pub with rooms”
This is not a hotel it is basically a pub with rooms. Staff okay rooms very basic. Our sink was cracked. The paintwork was amateurish. The outside beer garden, glasses everywhere. Kids play area was okay but the "garden" next to it had a mountain of rubbish with the access gate wide open for the possibility of kids getting hurt
